chappel is a tough task master
by veerapuram dharan on Dec 19, 2011 06:34 PM  | Hide replies

dada is a talented batsman and captain..there is no denying this..the present team success should owe to dada's captaincy..but, he also has this habit of feeling himself great above others..examples are his failure to carry drinks during the 1992 world cup in aus..every coach have their own coaching ways..chappell is no different..why dravid is not complaining about chappel? dravid is a good student of teh game, very obedient servant..when asked to don the gloves, he does it..when asked to open the innings, he does that..when asked to field in fwd short leg, he done it...similarly, whats wrong in chappell asking sachin to go down the middle order? sachin, dada, bhajji are all cry babies..surprised to see even sachin is in the list during chappels tenure..

dada is bull. is technique is questionable. He was never confy with pacers nor on on side field play. He was a horrible captain and an arrogant personalilty. Greg chappel failed to read indian mentality of putting oneself before the country.

Dada was a limited offside player.. when oppostion learned to pack the offside, he struggled for runs.. He was a very bad runner b.w the wickets and a poor fielder.

Sachin scored at a strikerate of 100 while this guy couldnt rarely go upto 80 reducing the runrate and creating pressure on the team..

hehe. Any kind of BS in attempting to prove your points. Ganguly had the technique as well as the guts. He has proven that everywhere. He has also played politics esp when he came back with chappel still around. Discipline is questionable.

Everything is correct except that ' current Success should owe to dada's captaincy'. Rahul, sachin and laxman are great playerrs, dhoni, kohli and gambhir started playing well after ganguly's tenure, now we can you can tell about yuvi, viru, bhajji, zaheer groomed in ganguly's tenure, they got selected bacause they were playing well at tat time, now they are still in the team beacuse of there consistancy,So please dont give too much credit to him...

but what did chappel do? Dhoni, Irfan, Yuvraj, Kaif, Munaf, zaheer, gambhir all came before chappel because ganguly pulled them in. Kohli, Rohit, pujara, umesh, etc all came after chappel left. Only players chappel picked was Raina and sreesanth. Infact he was so partial to raina, he kept him in the team even when he was failing continuously. It was only later after chappel left and raina was dropped, that raina returned and started playing properly.

Chappel seeded the roots for indian victory of world cups in multiple versions of the game. The change he brought in was to bring to limelight the fresh blood. Earlier, even if the guys played well or not, they were integral part of the team. What Chappel created was the competition, a healthy competition which every one else was able to accept but not Ganguly. I think its time he understands that resignation was the right thing for him at that point of time.

I agree with you.. Ganguly is a frustrated man. He was just carrying on in the Indian team without performances. Slow and weak fielder, limited offside batsman, and no bowling talent. I dont know what contribution he was making to the team.

We cannot keep players in the team whose only job is to do "aggressive captainship".

CHAPPEL WAS AN AUSTRALIAN TROJAN HORSE
by AK Kumar on Dec 19, 2011 06:14 PM  | Hide replies

Chappel was sent to India with a single, unspoken mission of demolishing Indian cricket team so that Ponting and his boys could hold the world cup. The Aussies knew that India under Ganguly with Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag, Laxman firing all cylinders and Zaheer, Harbhajan, Kumble being very difficult to play, their team had no chance of winning. So Chappel was sent to foment trouble in the Indian camp, create division (typically Australian and British), and thus shatter the team spirit and the morale. This Chappel did resoundingly well.

Chappel is financially not rich because he keeps on doddering about India and wants to come to India again and again. Actually, he must be find it very hard to make both ends meet as he has been rejected by the cricketing community but for a few mentally unstable Indian fans who keep on supporting him.

Ganguly Vs Chappell
by siddhartha srivastava on Dec 19, 2011 05:55 PM  | Hide replies

Greg showed some dynamism initially and it was felt that he was better Coach than John Wright who actually instilled confidence in Indian team and make them believe that they could beat any team in the world. However, Greg being a faithful Australian too was wary of team India’s potential. So, there began slow but certain plan to de-motivate the team to start with
The First Joker
Undoubtedly, Saurav Ganguly. Ganguly was not performing well as a player but was the best Captain India ever had. He could lead the team with great motivation and believed in his players. His belief in the likes of Sehwag, Yuvraj, Kaif, Pathan etc always yielded results and India performed well. This was immediately noticed by Greg and he did the best thing, demoralize Ganguly. Ganguly like a perfect joker went to media and was done for. His efforts of so many years went down the drain suddenly and some one else had to start all over again. This de-motivated team India to its lowest level.
The First Puppet
After Ganguly’s exit from the scene the obvious choice was Rahul Dravid. Dravid is probably most respected player in the recent times not only in India but also amongst all cricket-playing teams. But, he is respected as a player not as a Captain. His knowledge about the game is un-doubtful but lacks in strategic planning, leadership and motivation on the field. He was the obvious choice and fell in Greg’s trap and virtually became his puppet in as far as game planning, batting and

1 simple reason...our cricketers doesnt want to be questioned and required their own freedom of playing their way...coaches are not meant to keep mum...they are here to ask questions, give suggestions and motivate you...young guns like our Great MSD, raina, yuvi, harbhajan, kaif, Munaf..were moulded...its our failure to cast them properly that led to some of their downfall...if chappel was not suited why select him...if you marry a tiger, go behind it and not oppose it...else dont marry a tiger...

Fully agree, however, it was Ganguly himself who strongly backed his appointment as Coach. Greg came with a mission - check out this - India met Australia in the finals of 2003 world cup and was actually a great threat to them even in next world cup much before it started, as it was India, which restricted Australia in their test match winning spree. India being most unpredictable team could upset any team on a given day or crumble like a pack of cards. The threat notwithstanding, Australia would not have wanted to play finals of this world cup with India. So, the planning started way back just after the 2003 world cup. India was looking for a Coach and fortunately for Australia Greg was hired by BCCI.
