I totally agree with Rahul Dravid on this. To retain mass interest, need to cut down on the amount of cricket that is played. There was no need to schedule a one day series immediately with England after we played a five match series in England. We need all forms of cricket to survive and for that we need the masses to be part of it. We need to retain the interest otherwise they are not going to come to the grounds.
Test cricket is the classic form and I would say that lately test cricket has become more interesting than the one day format. Almost 75% of the games are decided. We have teams scoring at decent run rates(close to one day rates). A team cannot consider itself safe even after scoring 500 runs in the first innings. Test cricket is all about adjusting to what is required at that moment in the game. Some days you would have to bat in one day/20-20 style to quickly set up a target for a team. Sometimes you may need to bat 3-4 sessions without losing wickets to save a game. Sometimes you have 12-15 wickets falling in a day!

Play best 3 out of 5 one-day matches.
It is basically like a 5-day match, except that there is a guaranteed result per day. The first team to win 3 matches, wins the series and there is no reason to play the remaining meaningless matches.

OTHER IDEAS:
a) shorten from 50-overs to 30-overs
b) if a batsman is unable to score any runs in a single over, he is OUT. Basically a maiden over is equivalent to OUT.
c) In order to speed up the game, there is no need to switch sides after every six balls.
d) Eliminate overs all together. Instead of 50-overs, make it 6*50= 300 balls match. Let any bowler, bowl as long as he wishes. There is no need to change every 6-balls if the bowler is troubling the batsmen.
c) Make the game more bowler friendly rather than batsmen friendly.

My 2 cents or paisas !!

TEST cricket-A cricket that all news channels would love to hate

T-20 is going to kill the game, and One day has only made the game better, but test match cricket is what needs skill, concentration and perseverance.

For a generation, that dwells in fast forward lane, short cuts, instant mixes, instant pleasures,
age has a way of catching up which will show the merits of slowness, carefulness, maturity, and many such qualities.
Result of sport is important and I guess the One day cricket is definitely bringing that quotient into test match cricket. Matches are seeing a transformation in the way the teams look at targets and scores.
Test match is important otherwise you will see idiots throwing bat at everything.
Virtues that are achieved in maturity can never be got in youth. Test cricket is the same. Test match is like life and T-20 is just the birthday celebrations in it.
And as far as Rahul Dravid goes, people who have no knowledge on cricket seem to be growing in the Rediff discussions... I think he is rare human being, a great orator, simple man, a great family man, a great fighter, a great slip fielder, a great thinker and also a great leader for his teammates, and he needs more credit than those simpletons who have no knowledge on cricket.
