award is given for the highest degree of national service... what national service did nelson mandela and gafoor khan and amartya sen did for india... and for that matter what service of highest degree was done by most of the politicians who have been given this award... most of them were corrupt... as for service to nation of highest degree is concerned... who better person than sachin for that...
Sachin is an ideal candidate because he inspire people from all walk of lives...not limited to Indians but non-Indians. I can not say about Dayan Chand as I know very little about him. However, others like V. Anand has not influenced people from all walk of lives through his achievements in his profession.
Perhaps, only person who deserve it as much as Sachin is Kapil Dev.
Sachin needs to rise above his fascination of having records and awards. He needs to plainly declare that Bharat Ratna is much above his acheivements. He should do that to stop his fanatic hare brained fans..

Actually, Bharat Ratna should feel honoured with Sachin and even this world's highest honour may be nobel prize (if it was for sports ), must have been bestowed to sachin, no that particular honour would have felt honoured to perpetuaity .
Its crystal clear, that sachin is the person to influence 120 crores indians in this modern era (each indian), it was Gandhiji previously.
Now what is his influence or total impact on us or even the planet at large?
Looking by his karma gestures n humbleness, on india in particular n world in general, no one ever has given (not achieved ) more in the modern era .
What has he given (not looking at what has he achieved's angle), happiness, self belief ,joy, true art , majesticity,confidence. n countless more undefined.
he earns crores but thats a medium of life, do we want materialstic pleasures really, or the art of spirituality.
spirituality coz... when a person becomes higher than his karma, he attains salvation or moksha.
just look at him n u wud see he has achieved that, n we hav got some of it by sheer watchin him.
and for critics, good n correct criticism is important but wud u criticize the SUN for burning us to flames of envy,jealousness n desires.
SACHIN is the world's only modern surviving legend till now in his 37 years in this planet.
so "Sachin being GOD of cricket" is correctly hailed in this quote is enough to justify that he is a special creation of THE GOD.

Please stop the bhunkus on bestowing Bharat Ratna to sachin. these guys are already getting disproportionate amounts of moneys from BCCI, through IPL, CPL, TV ads, various contracts etc. Bharat Ratna has so far been a bestowed to great leaders who had interests other than moneys and their sole aim was betterment of India socially and economically. These cricketers, though earning scores of easy money have not spent a single pie for any social cause except for their personal appearence in some health center which costs nothing to them. Lalit Modi and BCCI guys have already fooled indians and looted an unimaginable sum of moneys through cricket so atleast keep Bharat Ratna out of this debate...
Kapil, Sunil Gavaskar and Kumble are equal greats of Indian cricket...Kapil and Kuble being bowlers are instrumental to test match wins...a bowers 400 wickets is more than 100 centuries of a batsman especially the one who has scored the same when the bowling quality in general was on constant decline.
The whole debate on Sachin deserving, getting Bharat Ratna seems very strange. First and foremost he has not asked for it. It is the people (miliions or billions) who feel that Sachin deserves the recognition have put forth their opinion. Who are we to talk about his income, his endorsements etc. Bharat Ratna as an award is given to people who have brought laurel to the country and made us proud. And have been recognized all over for their contribution in their field. Bringing laurel and making the country proud can happen in many ways not just by doing social service. By that means, I don’t think art and literature even qualify for this. It has to be only the army and may be to a certain extent social service.

This bloke earns hundreds of crores per year, and doesn't even doa proper job. He plays a game for living and get paid hundreds of thousands for it. On top of it, he pushes all MNC crap on we Indians and earn money for the same. He occassionaly cribs for tax soaps - the 3 crore car that was 'gifted' by his sponser, need tax exemption as well!! He lives in a city where millions live their life without basic needs and below any standards imaginable in a civilized society. What does he do for them? Nothing, he turn a blind eye.
Who cares if Mumbai is full of people in slums without any basic needs. Any social issues, he keep silent. He knows it is better not to offend anyone, which otherwise might affect his popularity and thus revenue.
This man is an ostrich, and in his specialized field - as well known chocker as well. There are 1000s of people who deserver Bharat Ratna better than him. People who dedicated their lives to empowering women, taking care of slum children and educating them, fighting against social injustice, scientists/soldiers who dedicate their life to the country and so on. So many selfless people, who gave everything in life to the society and got nothing back in return.
People, please stop pampering Sachin. He earns much more than hos sporting skills deserves and does nothign other than playing cricket. Get real and please get your priorities right.
