Ponting also commented that he had seen Bhajji practising on the day of his "ankle injury"... hmmm..serious mindgames payed before the match..

I was talking about you veera :-) Wondering where you last played cricket... I am assuming it's on a playstation or xbox lol :-)!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Ponting on Bhajji's fitness
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:32 PM
Bhajji is not talented but raju was horrible. After the trio of bedi, prasanna and chandrasekhar, we have one top class spinner and that is kumble. During the last 6 or 7 years of his career, kumble has silence his critics about his lack of spinning abilty and has proved that he is of top qulaity both in india and abroad. Rating any other spinner as top class, other than these four should be discarded
Re: Re: Viru is main key for India :-)
by Sanjay on Sep 30, 2010 09:10 PM
lol... he is key I would say veera. I don't have much confidence in our bowling so as is often the case... we need Viru to 'outbat' them :-) Obviously others need to contribute too...

I have ony heard your name in cricketing circles and probably u played one test?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Viru is main key for India :-)
by atul wasan on Sep 30, 2010 09:25 PM
Ask Ranji players who played against me , I was victim of politics , I was as good (if not better) than Waqar
It is all funny...We are telling AUS is has not beaten india in india for long time..But hwo many times we have won a series in AUSTRALIA??? Also the number of test matches we have beaten australia is far far less than their win against india. So let us concentrate on setting that equation first.
Re: aus
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 09:02 PM
Australia is playing in India and not vice versa. So no need to talk about how India has performed in Australia at the moment.
Almost all top ranked better win/loss record against India.
You said ojha is certain to play. I would also back u on that. But don't be surprised,if u see bhajji and mishra being picked as the 2 spinners in 2mrw's match. In india such things happen. That is why India is unique in sports... (Ohh sorry, not just in sports, we are unique in everything)
Re: @sportslover
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 08:53 PM
I read somewhere that Dhoni said that if bhajji doesn't play then mishra will play it means ohja is certain to play unless, of course, india is going to play 3 fast bowlers.
Re: Michael Hussey
by Kaka on Sep 30, 2010 08:51 PM
I hope Ojha gets picked up ahead of Mishra as he is a tight bowler with the knack of taking wickets. He will be a handful for the Aussies who love to dominate.
Re: Michael Hussey
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:52 PM
Even Micheal hussey struggles against good bowling attacks. But in india, he won't have to fear that. Bcoz, here we rarely see quality in bowlers
Re: Re: Re: Michael Hussey
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:20 PM
Since hussey comes at 2 down, he has more chances to survive than the other two openers. But that doesn't guarantee a good performance from him
The rankings, i learnt will stay the same even if india loose this series against aussies. But a team with such a poor bowling attack does not deserve to be number one. Hope, we won't have to face england anytime soon, bcoz their bowling is much better than ours. A rookie like swann is 100 times better than a so-called seasoned bhajji. And, without taking 20 wickets, no team can win a test match. Even kumble's team which defeated aussies in perth was class side, leave alone ganguly's which we all know was one of the best in the world, and deservingly so. The nucleus of the kumble led side was more or less the same as that of dhoni, but may be kumble's absence is a major issue
Re: Its an irony to say the least that this indian team is no:1
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 08:38 PM
But even with this poor bowling attack they have not lost a test series in last 2 years.
Regarding England bowlers - I am not too sure. When was the last time they won against India? And I think this weak Indian bowling lineup may look threatening in English conditions.

Re: Re: Its an irony to say the least that this indian team is no

i completely agree. dunno why people on this forum just wanna find faults and criticize anything and everything. and as for england, the last time they beat india in a test series was way back in 1996 that too at home. our 'so called' mediocre bowlers have won us tests in england, australia, south africa, pakistan and new zealand through the last decade.
Re: Re: Re: Its an irony to say the least that this indian team i
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:00 PM
Its not blind criticism. Am also an indian and i too want india to do well. I am not saying anything against out batsmen. But its an open fact, that our bowling attack is one of the worst in the world. To be a quality side, we need to have the quality in our bowling dept too. In ODI's for eg:, we would often see, the opposition being at 50/3 for eg: and they go on to get 300 or more. In the middle overs we hardly takes any wickets. Bhajji is the leader of the spin attack and usually spin bowling takes the centre stage during middle overs. That bowling attack needs to be criticized and should be criticized.
Re: Re: Its an irony to say the least that this indian team is no
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:05 PM
i agree with the past and i agree that the indian team led by dravid, kumble and ofcourse the one by saurav ganguly were much better than that of england. Dhoni's team did beat england in the one-off test match, but i dare say that, since then, the standards with england has improved and for us, its the opposite. Swann, is one of the best spin bowlers in the world now, and bhajji not so..There is much more to compare from the bowling front, but then i will require 2 cups of complan or any other energy drink
Re: Its an irony to say the least that this indian team is no:1
by sunil k on Sep 30, 2010 10:34 PM
this is the weakest bowling attack india has.....team india certainly does not deserve no.1 position..... it's england by far the best test playing team now.....quality pace attack, world class off spinner and resilient middle order, winning a lot of test matches under very tough match situations and against very good bowling attack on difficult pitch conditions......well....team india is comfortably playing at "batting paradises" against back to back lanka series and bangla....and enjoying points......no.1 team!!!! gr8..!!!!
Re: Its an irony to say the least that this indian team is no:1
by sameer kapur on Sep 30, 2010 09:05 PM
rankings are the result of what indians as team,as a unit, do on the ground and not just a balling unit.as far as the mediocre balling goes i think pitches in india make the ballers look rather low in ability but whenever they have balled in conditions even a little bit favouarble to them they have worked wonders..results in recent years in the matches played abroad are the proof of the same..

I have typed a matter here, but it says its waiting for moderator approval. I have not used any abusive language. My energy got wasted, since i had typed a rather long reply and i didn't take the copy of it before posting it.
i read a column on sachin tendulkar and i see 90% of the comments are against the great man. i read an srk film review and notice that most of the comments are negative, sometimes even degrading. ditto for others like ganguly, hrithik, dabangg, aishwariya etc. do u guys have a problem in writing normal, straightforward comments instead of being so paranoid and negative in your assessments?
Re: why do rediff users have to be so critical of everything?
by Sanjay on Sep 30, 2010 08:47 PM
It's raw passion veera... Aussies and India share this raw passion when it comes to cricket. It stirs up emotions... let it be. You're welcome to add something positive by the way - your post is pretty negative in itself :-)
Re: why do rediff users have to be so critical of everything?
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:36 PM
We should always be critical when we assess things. That will do only good. In india, people seem to be very emotional when commenting on anything, especially sports, and that has led to our downfall
Re: Re: why do rediff users have to be so critical of everything?
by anuj on Sep 30, 2010 08:39 PM
its all about saying what u believe. critical or otherwise. but that certainly doesn't mean you go about cursing and abusing someone or something if u don not like it. there's something called constructive criticism which we folk seem to lack big time.
Re: Re: Re: why do rediff users have to be so critical of everyth
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:16 PM
i can vouch for the fact i want to do only constructive criticism and hope am doing justice to that. My comments are only against our bowling attack, and i would be the first one to appreciate, if anything positive happens on that front
These days he looks like an ordinary bowler when compared to swann and paki ajmal. Not sure why he cannot improve. He should at least try. He keeps bowling flat and on the leg stump or short outside the off stump. Looks like he have forgotten how to flight the ball.
This series might be last chance for him to show that he still is good.

but against aussies he becomes dangerous lets see if he can repeat the same this time also...
Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the momen
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:11 PM
But a one off performance against aussies and that too at home, is not enough for india. He doesnt even spin the bowl much, he only relies on spin and some tracks in india like eden gardens offers that bounce. But he is given a hero's image by the team and the bcci. I wonder what he is doing to earn that
Re: Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the m
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:16 PM
Sorry, i meant to say, that he relies on bounce, not spin
Re: Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the m
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 08:14 PM
If this was not against aussies I would drop him and perhaps play mishra along with ohja. But it is perhaps because of Harbhajan that ponting and as a result Australia was not that much successful in India.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at t
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:22 PM
I would have also done the same but mishra doesnt inspire too much confidence in me. I dont remember him flighting the ball above the eye line of the batsmen, so that they could be beaten in flight. He doesn't have the minimum height, which a leg spinner can utilize to get the ball above the eye line of the batsmen.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 08:30 PM
If harbhajan is injured then Mishra is the only other spinner in the team I think (except ohja who is almost certain to play)? So if not harbhajan then perhaps mishra and ohja. Don't think 3 fast bowlers are a good option.
Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the moment
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:24 PM
For us, we think this will be the last chance for harbhajan. Bue he knows, with the team management and the bcci behind him, he can go on playing for india, come whatever
Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the momen

He is a fighter though. I HOPE he comes back with a bang. If not then PERHAPS its curtains for him.
Re: Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the m
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:41 PM
i hope he doesn't comeback to the indian team though am sure that i am hoping against hope. And I don't think of playing with 3 bowlers bcoz even 4 bowlers r not enough for us. But its better to take 3 fast bowlers than playing mishra. See, we have given him enough chances, and he has proven what he is capable of. People wanted to see the back of kumble, after watching just one match from mishra. And after that first match, he has not been able to repeat the performance. Now all the teams has read him out.
Re: Re: Re: Has Harbhajan lost it? - It looks like that at the m
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 08:44 PM
Even i was impressed by the fighting attitude of harbhajan. But now i very much realize that, the attitude is not enough, u have to have the talent and skill to back it up and vice versa too
In India, performance is not the only yardstick here whether it is for the players or for the management. Infact, the management, right from the top, should also be accountable for the performance of the players. The result, the current state of affairs in all the sporting disciplines in India

He might have meant that good physique can guarantee non-performance as in the case of harbhajan
