Re: Virender Sehwag

If he fails tomorrow, then there is huge question mark that is left to be answered. I hope he maintains this consistency in odi's also. bcoz i think he has become more impatient in the start of the innings in odi's since it is a limited overs match. But there is huge potential which if realized will do a world of good to indian team. Bowling dept still will remain as a concern

That is what I said in my reply below he is far better test batsman than an ODI batsman. He should have been far more successful in ODIs as well but for his impatience.
Re: Re: Re: Virender Sehwag
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:41 PM
yeah there is an agreement between us on that issue. Sehwag can do a lot more in odi's. He has the potential as we all know, but he has to realize that potential
Re: Re: Virender Sehwag
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:35 PM
But if he gets out in the first 2 or 3 overs, then there is nobody else in the top 5 who can raise the run rate except for gautam gambhir. but his form in recent days is a little concern. If we becomes defensive while batting, then it may be a suicidal thing
Re: Re: Virender Sehwag

You can perhaps say we have alternatives in one dayers but not in Test Matches. His odi record in nothing in front of his Test match record.
I think because of him Indians are turning lost matches into draws and drawn matches into wins.

I said it in the sense, players like Dravid,SRT and Laxman can hang on and retrieve the situation, there's no rea urgency for quick runs.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Virender Sehwag
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:46 PM
Its not a matter of quick runs. The indian team has always done well when they are given a good opening stand. And of late, sehwag has been playing very important part in india's test matches. We dont realize how much he contribute to the team. Its much more than the dravid's or the sachin's. And its because of his innings, that we are able to win or atleast draw many test matches. His innings is absolutely crucial for india
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Virender Sehwag
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:47 PM
I go one more step ahead saying that sehwag and laxman are the 2 key batsemen for india in 2mrw's test match
Re: Re: Re: Virender Sehwag
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:38 PM
Well said.. that is what is happenig really. i too commented just before, that i hope sehwag translates his test match performance in to odi's. bcoz i think there is much to improve for him in odi's. And if he can maintain consistency in odi's, like in test matches, that that will do india no harm
There are good possibilities that, we all will be utterly disappointed tomorrow, if aussies gets the chance to bat first. I have that much confidence in our bowlers
Re: Pray that india bats first
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 11:22 PM
Winning the toss and batting is important. But I don't bet on dhoni winning the toss. Even if Aus win the toss and bat India should get them at least 6 down by the end of the day.
Re: Pray that india bats first
by cricketfan on Sep 30, 2010 11:21 PM
No scope for disappointment, the nemesis of Australia Bhajji will play tomorrow which is a major source of irritant for Aussies.
what went wrong with Dhoni's batting.. he was so destructive, fluent and confident in the initia phase..all of a sudden the only shot he plays is the "whip" drive and the occasional six..????????????
Re: I can't understand
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 11:12 PM
At the start of his career he played on flat tracks and his hits came off. He was never good against real fast bowlers and always got caught behind. How ugly he looks like when trying to hit these days.
Re: Re: I can't understand
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:16 PM
We cant judge a player from his performance in his early days? Because these days, every opposition will try to exploit the slightest of weaknesses. Amit Mishra is a very fine example for that. Now all the oppositions read him well. And he has ran out of options. So like that, dhoni is also studied well by opponents
Re: yess
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 10:57 PM
Never in the history of a test match has a team been beaten in one day. And to expect a result like that is not just highly unlikely, but impossible.
I hope austalia wont bat first tomorrow. If then all our hopes could be dealt a severe blow by the end of tomorrow itself. I know that, we should want our team to be good and effective, irrespective of whoever is batting first, but unfortunately for us, it is important that tomorrow we bat first. And i believe then, we can see a good test match at mohali
Re: Re: Hopes india bats first tomorrow
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 11:05 PM
But still i think, evenif india bats first tomorrow, we cant fully write off aussies. They wont give up. They will bowl tight line and length and frustrate the indians if they don't get too much assistance from the pitch. Everything depends on sehwag if india bats first. If sehwag is able to cut loose, then he can easily upset the line and length of aussies which will give india a major advantage. But if we have to bowl first, there is only less than 5 percent chance of us ending up on top or at least with honours even status tomorrow
Look forward to tomorrow... let's hope India with the toss and bat... I'll be joining late ... probably around lunchtime IST... by then the score should be

actually , Aussies will bat first and they will be around 300-330/1-2 by the end of the day.
Our Bowlers will make sure that nothing changes their averages
Re: Re: Chalo I'm going to hit the road!
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 10:49 PM
You can assume whoever wins the toss will bat first. And there are more chances of dhoni losing the toss. And team batting first will always have advantage.
Re: Chalo I'm going to hit the road!
by Sports Lover on Sep 30, 2010 09:35 PM
that is being just to optimistic. If they bat first I hope they are not worse than 250/2. Like 176 all out :p. And if Aus bat first I would want them 4 down before 250 ;-).
Sanjay I think I'll wake up only two hours earlier than you :-)

It's wishful thinking guys :-) Sporty@ I normally check the score the second I wake up on my mobile - still lying in bed - it sets the mood for the rest of the day :-)
Re: Chalo I'm going to hit the road!
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:35 PM
If india bats first, then that possibility cannot be ruled out. But it could be vice versa too if they bats first. There wont be anybody like sehwag, but the team score at the end of the day may resemble ur prediction. it may be more than that like 350/1 or 2
i'm bored with old faces like ponting, dravid, laxman, sachin, harbhajan in cricket... even dhoni has become quite old...he got too much & enough publicity,
Re: need fresh blood
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:27 PM
We can't leave all the old ones out, if then the result will be dreadful. But at the same time, young faces are also necessary . We need to phase out the seniors in a time bound manner. Pujara's inclusion is most welcome.
Re: need fresh blood
by Sanjay on Sep 30, 2010 09:27 PM
old is gold :-) Particularly true for India cricket... youngsters will rise just needs some time.

they look because of sideeffects of makeup they use in advertise, otherwise they r good n agile
" SEHWAG, Gambhir, Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar, Raina . . . that's a pretty strong batting line-up in anyone's language. Some people think it is the strongest in world cricket. I am not sure I would go that far, but there is one thing they do and that is they play in these conditions very well.
It is going to be a very big test for our bowlers and for me as a captain. India is the No 1 team in the world and they are there for a reason. We will have to play very, very well to beat them at home. "
Re: Ponting on India... nice :-)
by Rajan S on Sep 30, 2010 09:38 PM
Raina, though he has played well in srilanka is not a guarantee as a test batsman in the long run. Remember, in test matches, there is no restriction for bouncers, and those who know how to ball it will trouble him evenif it is on indian pitches

"I am not sure I would go that far, but there is one thing they do and that is they play in these conditions very well."
He is trying to show that he is praising Indian batting but in above sentence, he says, it isn't the best in the world and only good in their conditions.

That's what goray call a 'positive, negative, positive' sandwich :-) Often it's the bit in the middle that portrays the true feelings but it's 'dressed up' to ease the impact of saying the negative part !
Hussey may be dropped tomorrow for Steven Smith if conditions suit.
" While Smith's bowling is still developing, he is a total cricketer: an attacking bat who made a dashing 77 at Headingley and an extraordinary fieldsman. "

Perhaps that will be a mistake. In an important series I don't think they'll want to try a newcomer.

Bollinger and Hussy were playing for CSK in CLT20 and arrived late and that is why perhaps they want to test their match fitness first.
