Dump Yuvraj and other lazy players
by Bhasmasur on May 13, 2010 11:24 PM  | Hide replies

Gary Kirsten, India's coach, has come down hard on some of the Indian players' "fitness and commitment" after his side failed to win a single game in the Super Eights of the World Twenty20, a repeat performance from last year.

Before addressing the team and handing them a dressing-down in the West Indies, Kirsten had a one-on-one interaction with senior players - MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra. Team sources said that Kirsten told the group he was angry to see that even he - a 42-year-old - was fitter than some of the players. Yuvraj and Rohit Sharma got special mention with regards to fitness, the sources said. Kirsten demanded better fitness from the players and gave them one month to show results on that front.

Kirsten also said in the meeting that the players seemed content with the No. 1 ranking in Tests and the No. 2 in ODIs, and were not committed to the team cause in the World Twenty20. It is worth noting that only four of the 15 players present there are sure starters in Test matches: Dhoni, Gambhir, Harbhajan and Zaheer.

While it is not the first time that a coach

While it is not the first time that a coach has lashed out at a team, the timing and the harshness of this dressing-down suggest the severity of the problem, especially coming from a man usually content with the back seat. India's early exit from the World Twenty20, their third such effort in last three global events, has drawn harsh criticism from various quarters, but this coming from the coach is the most damning of all. After last year's debacle too, Kirsten had raised similar fitness and intensity questions. He had blamed IPL fatigue then.

His plea bore little result this year. After a six-week-long IPL, India got a five-day break before their first match in the world Twenty20. Yuvraj, coming back from a wrist injury, played all 14 of Kings XI Punjab's matches. Zaheer sat out of two of India's five matches in the World Twenty20. Zaheer, Gambhir and Nehra missed matches at various stages of the IPL, and Nehra was picked for India even before he had returned to full fitness for Delhi Daredevils.

Why abuse Srikkanth
by Sambar Idli on May 13, 2010 11:19 PM  | Hide replies

After Srikkanth became the chief selector, India became the Number 1 team in Test Matches and also the 2nd in ODIs. In their entire history India has never been Number 1 till then.

If you are blaming Srikkanth for being T20 debacle then you also need to congradulate him for Test Number 1 and ODI Number 2 rankings.

And for those who think he is selecting only Tamil Nadu people, other than Murali Vijay, other people like Badrinath and D.K had got chances even before he became the selector. Suresh Raina was also in the team before he became the selector.

KINDLY KNOW YOUR FACTS BEFORE SPEAKING AGAINST HIM.

Selector is the person who has HEAD firmly placed on his Shoulder and is practical. He should take decisions according to Challenges ahead and not on past laurels. Entire Selection Committee was wrong for taking decisions impulsively and not practically. these people are dangerous for indian cricket....

In my opinion this was perhaps one of the best teams available for selection.

Says who, When Srikanth became selctor all India needed to do was win one series to be World Number 1 and that series was held on Flat India pitch.

Selection, moron Srikanth has selcted guys like Jadeja,Vijay,D Karthik who are proven failures . And then a bunch of unfit players like Nehra, Jadeja and badly out of form players like Yuvraj, Pathan etc. YOu call that the best available team?

Best available team keeping in mind the conditions should have included atleast 5 pace bowlers Vinay,Umesh,Ishant,Zaheer, and one more other than Nehra . Atleast 2 good openers like Shikar Dhawan or Naman Ojha and good middle order batsmen like Saurabh Tiwary, Abhishek Nair,Rayadu etc and one fast bowling allrounder like Irfan Pathan

Good point. Those named players should have been selected so that we could have cursed Srikkanth for selecting THEM.... :)

captain and team
by T chaudhuri on May 13, 2010 11:18 PM

mr mohapatra, u are right ,dhoni is not to be blamed but as a captain he has accountability .pls donot forget captain is asked for post match presentation because he is leader. If leader himself faills then he shld quitely leave his post which saurav also didnot did and someone thrown him out and same will happen to dhoni. His team selection is on basis of his biasness, he didnot change batting line up ,predictable line up. Example - in last match why he came on 11th over rather than sending pinch hitter harbhajan. Nowadays dhoni plays safe to keep his overall ratio safe . Why he did not hit a single six in 8 overs he played not even tried . If he donot have form or cant hit ,then leave this format totally. He is squarely responsible for this debacle along with k.srikant.

Eng spinners
by Ayaman Aswhole on May 13, 2010 11:16 PM

Today's game gave an opportunity to compare Indian bowlers with Englands. I am talking spinners here. SL were in similar situation against India when the great Indian spinners came to bowl. Compare their performance with Swann and Yardy. And see where SL ended up: 128
I agree, it is a collective failure. Let us not just blame Dhoni.

dude just come out of Dada's closet ,Dada isn't sweet 16 his era is finished and Dada failed to take kkr to semis twice in ipl while dhoni managed to take his team twice to finals and 1 semifinal,,so he cant do better than dhoni even if he comes out of retirement

pls understand cricket ,then comment. Who take his team to final or semifinal donot matter. Forget bulshit . Those who taking abt dada likes to leave in past. Donot talk abt ipl , u may see cricket for entertainment totally not have passion for the game .u like to see ipl as tv sas bahu type. Chennai went semifinal ,final and trophy because its team of srinivasan not because they played . Only winning 9 matches out of 16 matches where as mumbai indian won 12 matches .forget dada and dhoni. Dada is much better captain .

Dada who? The selfish guy who opened the innings for being the KKR captain, eating up most of the balls and scoring runs at a strike rate of about 100? Running away from a match faking injury after seeing a green pitch? Divisive, arrogant, superiority-complexed individual?

Trash
by Cannon Ball on May 13, 2010 10:41 PM

This seems be written by a die-hard Dhoni fan, who finds everything wrong with the team, but defends him by saying, "that the captain is only as good as his team". He comes up with just 2 tournament wins for India under Dhoni's captaincy, but fails to list numerous where we failed under him.

Mr. Mohapatra, if I were to put forward just 1 explanation for India's failure here, then it would be Dhoni's one-dimensional leadership. It was predictable, shocking and disappointing captaincy; and so I am not surprised when people challenge and say that he has run out of luck.

WHATEVER TEST MATCHES AND INTERNATIONAL MATCHES
by pooja vinayak on May 13, 2010 09:42 PM  | Hide replies

WAAA Failures of Indian team in last two T20WCs are the expected results from this Indian team,
because media and fans in India encouraged mediocrity by hyping mediocre players like Dhobi.

Also, If the captain of the Indian team is coward, selfish you do not get expected results.

Dhobi was hyped just because

-he won first T20WC, without Sachin and Dravid, by fluke
WORLD CUP 2007 IS REPEATED IN T20 2010 DHONI IS NOT FIT,ABILITY, SKILL WIN AGAINST AUSTRALIA,NEWZEALAND,ENGLAND,SOUTH AFRICA,SRILANKA,PAKISTAN IN THEIR GROUNDS AND CAN WIN IN INDIAN GROUNDS.
HE HAS NO ABILITY TO FACE THE DO OR DIE SITUATION
NOW BLAME IS THAT THEY LOST BECAUSE OF LATE PARTIES IT IS FOOLISHNESS OUR PLAYERS ARE PLAYING FOR THE SAKE OF MONEY NOT FOR THE COUNTRY
USELESS CAPTAIN AND SELECTORS IN AUSTRALIA HE HAS TOLD I REQUIRE THE YOUNGESTER NOT REQUIRE THE SENIORS SEE THE DIFFERENCE OF DHONI HOW FOOLISH ,SELFISH THE WINNING AGAINST BANGLADESH,IRELAND,ZIMBAWAVE ,AFGHANISTAN,CANNDA,NETHERLAND THE DHONI THINKS HE IS GREAT THE INDIA IS NO 1 BUT HE CANNOT BECOME LIKE AUSTRALIA AND SOUTH AFRICA THE AUSTRALIA IS IMPROVED NOW THEY ARE REGAINING THE CONFIDENCE AND THEY WILL THE WIN THE

-and few meaningless bilateral series ( NZ, SRL WI players and their board consider these series as PAID sight seeing tour or relaxation at work in home countries).

EVER TEST MATCHES AND INTERNATIONAL MATCHES PLAYED UNDER CAPTAINCY DHONI ALL ARE FLUKE AND INDIA NO 1 POSITION IS ALSO BY FLUKE NOT TRUE HARD SHIP

They play for money, just as you do your job for salary. They have a short window of earning opportunity, unlike the rest of us.Is every employee going to be a Narayan Murthy or Bill Gates or Sam Pitroda? Not!

If your employer fires you from you job for being an uderperformer, is he wrong? These cricketers make money because the people buy tickets to see them play, remain glued to the TV, but products endorsed by them and give corporates an opportunity to increase revenues through media advertisements during the match. In every sense, it is the people who pay these players and hence every right to lambast them for poor performance. If they have a short window of earning popularity, they should make the most of it.
