And by IPL 4 we can do away with even the see through outfits. That will be revolutionary and surely make it the very first time in any league.

nice facts. But the BCCI is a national concern. hence it can never be valued like the private football clubs. But just for you to know the cricket board is sitting on piles of cash. and IPL generates billions of dollars evry year. go figure that out and you will know why Modi said what he said. if i am not wrong they have cash balance of 1 billion $ almost at all times due to IPL every year and many other tournaments etc... hope it broadens your thinking horizons.

where did you got these Numbers???They have published the financial results of the first IPL only. The profit went to BCCI was a mere 13 crore Rupees for your kind information!!!
Re: Re: Re: modiji
by nadim modak on Mar 12, 2010 04:49 PM
the 1st IPL generated more than 2 billion dollars by way of television rights etc.... even the team franchises are going to be sold for a few hundred million dollars. unfortunately when they release , it is always understated probably to save on taxes.... ask any ad guys and they will tell u how much they make. even 100 million dollars makes more than 400 crores .. so all those accounts are gibberish.
Re: Re: Re: Re: modiji

The total income of the first IPL was 650 crores Rupees in papers and net profit was a mere 13 crores!!!It did create a ruckus in BCCI too and modi was under scanner for some time. But the way Modi is, he has settled the issues with the BCCI Conterparts. You mean to say for telivision rights of IPL they got 10000 Crore Rupees ( 2billion Dollars).where did you got this nos from.???I guess the entire IPL dosn worth that!!!Get your Facts correct dude!!!

hi. sorry for this late reply. was busy with something. anyway, i am just copying and pasting from the above article. so that you can read clearly again. dont get me wrong. both of us are stating things based on what is written. and sometimes whats written can also fool us. Maybe they are making a fool of me or maybe you but the fact remains that media should not write anything and get away with it coz whats written is whats believed. anyways here it is
""""The idea for the IPL had been gestating ever since Modi was a student in the US, but the real impetus came when he had a cup of tea with a leading sports agent at Wimbledon [ Images ] in July 2007, by which time he was the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the national governing body.
What followed is testimony to his powers of organisation. By the time the first ball was bowled nine months later, the tournament had generated two billion dollars from the sale of television rights, team franchises and other licences.""""

How can Modi gesticate a 20 20 League when he was a student in US. that time the 20 20 format didn even exist!!!Its originated in England and it was an instant hit there. Then ICC started pondering to induct into international arena. Initially BCCI opposed the move for quite some time. Then the rebel league ICL started in india by poaching most the ranji players and retired international cricketers. Infact bengal and Hyderabad paid a lot as most of thier ranji players moved to ICL. Alarmed by this development BCCI decided to float IPL to stop this and counter ICL.infact they increased the match fee of a ranji player from a mere 10000 to a Lakh per match. Once India became World Champions in 20 20 format it became a huge hit in india and Modi and company cashed in on this success. This is the evolution happend in 20 20 format and if Modi says it is his brain Child then it is totally absurd!!!

let me reetirete IPL is not Modis Brain Child!! IPL was started to counter ICL and now if Modi says that it his idea you cant help it rather sayin he is just lying. If it has generated 2 billion dollars then why it is not in the papers???. Why it has just made 13 crore profit???See Modi s objective is to grow this league but really do you think it has that much of financial transparency??..If modi says it has made 2 billion dollars then it shoud reflect in the papers otherwise it is just an attempt to mislead the investers!!simple as that!!!
IPL is just waste of time and money, and people also waste their time and skill behind that. if you will do good thing, no one will follow you. but if you do bad thing, the follower will be countless.

I didnt claim that I am wasting my time...This forum is fun for me and would reply to any post.
I can't imagine cricket becoming 'bigger' than football in the neat future. It is safe to say that 80% of the world has not heard about cricket even. And to learn and play it is no easy thing as soccer.
IPL rides on money spent by crores of indians and some smart marketing.
For me, I may watch IPL, but am more excited about the soccer world cup this year than IPL or T20 WC.
IPL Should play in day light instead of evening and night. it will save electricity. As all the states of India facing electricity problem and the situation in rural india is worst. people getting electricity just for 4-5 hour a day only. Modi should think about it, instead of thinking how to earn more and more money

with current form, jaya will be preferred over duminy...still these guys dont have a quality wicket keeper...they should have bought haddin in any case...

jUMINY IS GOOD IN MIDDLE ORDER, dont go by his test match form, he is a good player.
T20 cricket doesnt really need form, a few strokes to the boundary are enough to set the tone.
Modi is ruining test and one day cricket by introducing IPL it is better from next season IPL should be stopped permanently. One should develope skills to play test cricket rather simply wasting time on IPL.Cricket today is commercialised by Lalit Modi
Re: Stop IPL from Next season
by Vineet Gupta on Mar 12, 2010 03:33 PM
IPL must be banned forever. Today children plays cricket, parents thinks that may be he will selected in future in IPL or ICL etc., where he can earned huge money, in very short span of time and with international recognition. Definately, he could not earn this even being an MBA, Doctor or Engineer from a premier institute. IPL have spoiled the other games too. No player wants to play hockey, football or any other sports in India because in other sports India has no sponsors, no money and no support from Govt. One cab judge the India's performance in Olympic and Asiad games where we have to announce the prize for winning even a bronze medal. In other countries like USA and China etc, they won the medals in bulk without any award money motive. BCCI or IPL is a private body, earning huge money, not covered under any of the Indian Sports Authority and Most Important, they play under INDIA's TEAM as logo.
This article is clearly as eulogy to Mr. Modi, apparent from the comment, "a reservoir of pressurised energy". We all know his contributions in changing the game of cricket as we knew it. The cricketers certainly have many reasons to cheer for him. Now, whether it is for GOOD or BAD, only history will tell. Fact remains that, Mr. Modi is arrogant and off-late, has been ruffling a lot of feathers. Whether he survives a few more years at the helm of his IPL glory, we will see. Till that time he has friend in Rediff.
