IPL has lost its charm.
by samudra blr on Mar 13, 2010 08:40 AM  | Hide replies

IPL is already lost its charm. There is no passion in the regional teams because it is mainly composed of imported players. And a team playing well depends on the money they invest on imported players.
Atleast tournaments like Ranji trophy are genuine and composed of local talent.

Hence IPL is a total failure. It is just like a club match. The passion from the spectators will come down gradually.

Buddy I also thought so when IPL first started, but the passion and interest has only increased as it is just like a family outing. No point in expecting it to fail when we can see the huge number of spectators watching it in the stadium and on TV. Also, the franchisees are not stupid enough to invest such a huge sum if they are sure of the returns.

But yes, i agree that teams having inform foreign players tend to do well, than the indian players which is sad. It only shows the lack of quality in our players, specially the quick bowlers. There are no quick bowlers in india.

BCCI, players rich, but other sports neglected in India
by Ram V on Mar 13, 2010 03:27 AM  | Hide replies

IPL makes players, sponsors, admin like Modi richer.

It is very unfortunate other sports like Hockey, Tennis, swimming, gymnastics, soccer neglected they dont even think of building nice stadium and encourage others sports

Boss, hockey, and other sports are not under the control of the BCCI. BCCI is purely for cricket. What are the other government sports administrators specially those in hockey and football doing? Football and hockey hardly wins anything these days.

people in most major economies aren't even familiar with cricket.. not even china..
bollywood n cricket are in the same boat.. big only in its zone.. n unknown outside..

nba, nfl, epl have been around for decades..

ipl will kill itself as it is a subset of the cricket and forced into an already tight schedule.. and so many matches..every year..
so much cricket will never allow ipl to reach its potential ..and is already an overkill for its limited audience..
the world t20 follows next.. and even ipl becomes hard to digest by the time the final comes..

odi's and tests are exciting because they are not played exessively.. its simple logic

with limited audience and players..and countries.. ipl should know its limitations and scale back rather than stagnate.

modi is too full of himself
by tony on Mar 13, 2010 12:57 AM  | Hide replies

calm down mr.modi. Yeah you made some money so good for you. but to think you'll be bigger than Premier league and the nfl thats a bit too much. India has more than a billion ppl so the ipl will always remain a lucrative entity. but it will never be an international phenomenon. This is why
1. cricket itself apart from the original 8 nations- no one cares about. And before you say oh only americans care abt nba and crap that is false.the nba has players from all over the world-Europe,south america, africa and even china. showing that ppl play baseketball. No one plays cricket to that extent, and the premier league...haha i cant believe you even think you can even come close to football.

2. In the cricketing world itsef apart from India no one cares about the IPL. yeah yeah yeah last years was in SA and blah blah blah but thats because it was live and ppl came tp stadiums. but now viewership wise, Aus,Eng,SA,WI,NZ- no one watches or cares abt it. Then there is Pak who loved the ipl but everyone knows how you treated them so i think they wont even watch this season with angst. So left is India and Sri lanka- yeah 2 nations loving this crap wont make it a global entity.

3. It is an indian event but it so reeks of western copiness(just like bollywood movies), I mean the whole concept of cheerleaders proves that and on top You have White blonde imported ones..hahahha, you dont even like your own flesh girls and need white skin to have perverted uncles bring their families.

This year IPL got a very big media attention in UK because of google and itv. We should appreciate Modi's organizational skills. He is the best sports administrator in the world.

TS:

;-).... Good to know that less than 1% people of the world know what is Basket Ball... :)

Dunno which logarithmic scale do you regularly use, but I'd be interested to see whether you've magnified it enough through electron microscopes etc. to make Cricket followers appear on that scale of < 1%.... ;-)

"A Picture can speak a Thousand Words". Isn't that true? Somehow i must appreciate that the photo of Mr.Lalit Modi taken for this article is apt for this. His greedy eyes tells us everything.
