too much money ruining cricket
by Rajendrakumar Bowrie on Oct 16, 2009 05:11 PM

Yes, just like too much food intake can cause sickness, too much money definitely is doing much harm to the once noble game. Now thanks to Mr Modi IPL, cricket has become a money making racket, making players overnight rich (sick) with least concern for the game and the results. The earlier this type of tamasha stopped the better it could be for such a lovely game of cricket. Keep likes of Modi away from the game and we might the game as it is known all along.

Some people can digust fame, Glory & money and many can't. Mostly its in Asia. New gen should take example from likes of Tndulkar. There isn't any respect left in squad for seniors as you got 11 superstars now in team.

Have to deal with it
by test user on Oct 16, 2009 03:40 PM

Even the same with football. But in india they dont get the fame if they play only ipl. But yes they stopped improving thats evident with ishanth,r.p and Irfan. You can clearly see there is not intensity. People are protecting themselves to be fit for IPL. Thats sad the only way to be out of this is for the board to be brutal. Same as Fabio capello did for england football team. No one is guaranteed an automatic entry. If you see indian team almost everyone think they are in the team.

Curtail the no. of T20 matches
by Shantanu DeSarkar on Oct 16, 2009 03:12 PM

The no. of T20 matches should be curtailed as much as possible. Every bilateral series should not have more than one game. IPL should be made an "Once in 2 years" event. Also the no of mathches should be restricted to around 20-25, by dividing the teams into two groups. World T20 should occur once in 4 years

LEARN TO LIVE WITH & LEVERAGE T20/IPL TO ADVANTAGE-II
by damodaran mohan on Oct 16, 2009 03:12 PM

contd...However the negative aspect has to do with those people somewhat saturated in terms of place in Indian XI and have also earned good money from IPL, who may carry a “can’t care less attitude” when it comes to playing for India. These things can’t be helped and these attitudes again varies from person to person. Every body cannot be a Sachin or a Dravid etc. to remain level headed in spite of lure of big money. Actually we are going through the usual “painful transition” period like those ‘paradigm’ shifts in developments which happen in any other area or movement with changing times and no body can wish it away or forcibly stall it. Moral of the story: Learn to live with it and harness its potential because it is going to stay .In fact, taking on from T20 Champions League see if it can be made to take the shape of International Football professional leagues. Incidentally, can the the Football Managers of India also try replicate something like T20Champions cricket league currently in progress ?

LEARN TO LIVE WITH & LEVERAGE T20/IPL TO ADVANTAGE
by damodaran mohan on Oct 16, 2009 03:10 PM

Although debate is welcome but BCCI must realize that it is not a matter for wailing over but rather time to learn to live with it and get best out of it for all parties---BCCI,cricket players, cricket fans and above all for the game itself. Yes, IPL money has indeed affected attitude of players but these are something natural and while it afflicted earlier also , albeit a very few, but now larger number of people, both younger as well as older are affected by it. But the fact remains that the dream of playing for country will remain for every cricketers uppermost even if it is not to same intensity depending upon the circumstances. Overall it has come as a financial boom to younger and not so talented ones who can also aspire for a good living now. So, it should be welcomed. Seen in this context , IPL is a a positive development for sure because nearly 150-200 cricketers are benefited against only handful of top 15-20 cricketers who made it big earlier.

Too much for very little is the cause
by pradeep agarwal on Oct 16, 2009 03:02 PM  | Hide replies

It took Sachin 10 yrs to buils his brand & more than 30 test & equal number of ODI centuries. On the contrary a total new comer like Jadeja who has represented India in 3 ODI without much success can afford an Audi.He comes from a very humble background & such extraordinary returns for a flaggling carrer can be counter productive as they don't know how to digest so much wealth & fame.Indian cricket is now a pyjama circus & fans are in for more shocks in seven match series against Aussies.

Very well said. Uthappa (a player of very average quality)was paid Rs.3.44 crores for playing for Mumbai Indians for just one year in IPL. Just calculate, how many years and how many matches Sachin must have played to earn the same quantum of money!
