Given these circumstance, there is no doubt that holding IPL is fraught with risks, especially along with the inexplicable long drawn one month of elections. But at the same time will it be wise for the govt. to bow to dictates of Terror ! Earlier the English tour was called off in the middle. After IPL, hosting of CW Games will be the next big event. There is likely that if not in India there will be more such terror strikes in Pakistan given the terror scenario there. Should we call off CW Games also then.? The decision will be tough and execution even tougher but the govt. should exert every bit not to give into TERROR. However, even if the govt. clears, can BCCI be sure of maximum participation by the Aussies, Kiwis, Brits etc ? Thus, apart from the security and govt. angle , BCCI should now seriously think of making IPL more inclusive agenda whereby the other Cricketing Boards also share the GOLDMINE to get their ready co-operation and avoid such heartburns.
Ever since the Ist IPL became a spectacular success, the Indian cricket and BCCI became envy for all in the cricketing world. The Aussies were first off the block pitching in their most unsporting players, Michel Clark and Ricky Ponting to start the scuttling process. Both in turn announced their pull out and virtually started a debate on evil effects of IPL on Test cricket and even raising loyalty questions of players to National teams. Then the ECB took over and every efforts were made to dissuade KP and and a very enthusiastic Flintoff to pull out of the 2009 IPL. This was followed by the Kiwi former skipper, Fleming commenting about IPL and ICL being detrimental to the conventional form of cricket. However the SA & WI cricketers and their establishments have been positive to IPL all along. Then came the Lahore attack and the OPERATION SABOTAGE IPL was complete with most of the Aussie, NZ and English cricketers this time looking to be raising legitimate security concerns. In our neighborhood, the SL cricket were all along not supportive of IPL although the PCB and their cricketers were more enthusiastic. However, 26/11 changed it all once the Pakistani players got excluded from IPL and it virtually became " neighbors envy and owner’s pride".

Right!!!!!!! We are under no obligation to pay tax money for IPL. But by birth right the politicians have the right to use our tax paid money for their stupid elections which is once in 5 years and sometimes every year. I must say u r a politician.
IPL is an entertainment for almost 80crore people in india and millions of other people abroad. The only solution is to call army for general election and let the police and other security agencies provide security for IPL.
Why don't we postpone the elections. After all, we are going to elect the same geriatric leaders or even worse: a hung parliament. Sadly, holding the elections as scheduled is not going to change the common man's life.

Yes. Provided BCCI should declare how much they shall be paying to security agencies out of their profit.Let this money thirsty demon to bleed little so that security personnel should get some benifit i.e. compulsory life insurance of 50 lakh for all security personnel and other frindge benefits like double salary for that period or some adhoc allowance attributable to BCCI. One thing is for sure IPL will held as long as congress govt is in power as they are not at bargaining terms with Sharad Pawar. So why not to take some money out of BCCI coffer so that oppressed security personnel get some benefit.

why not...if IPL have to be organised it should be in India because cricket is followed as a relegion in India...do rememmber the full crowd in IPL first edition...T20 was never a attraction before IPL & now we are world beater.....beside that IPL is a major money raiser for BCCI & cricketers...

Swatantraveer, If I may add, India is one of the richest nations in many ways in the world. It's just the lack of this knowledge and not knowing how to handle our country's 'richness' in people like you sir that makes us look like a 'poor nation and illafford such fancy tournaments'. Dont you buy entertainment with money? Just think about IPL in a bigger picture and am sure you'll feel much better.

Guys!!! I dont understand. Y r we fighting for something where our views will neither b heard nor be implemented. May it b elections or IPL. We in india even if a part of the democracy we r nothing more than a mere viewer. So instead of making such comments and trying to feel that it`s in our hands. Lets wait n watch what happens. Anyways whatever happens, All of us will have to accept it.
