Better technique in what
by Varun on Jul 29, 2009 11:34 AM

Definitely not in cricket. Must be something else he is talking about.

application more important
by mastfriends on Jul 29, 2009 11:01 AM  | Hide replies

Each & every moment that Geoffrey Boycott played, he played for himself & not for team. Still his records are worse than that of Sunil Gavaskar.
May be what Geoffrey Boycott says is correct but let us recollect sanjay Manjherkar had a better technic than sachin, so was he a better player than Tendulkar.

MastFriends:

For your benefit (coz its strenuous for you to indulge in reading huge articles which span across half a page), I am reproducing Boycott's statement:

"There is no question that Sunny was a fantastic batsman. People love to make comparisons and Sunil and I have been compared very often perhaps because we were similar in many ways -- we batted right-handed, opened the innings, had a great appetite for runs, hated to give our wickets away and possessed good technique," Boycott wrote in new book 'Sunil Gavaskar: Cricket's Little Master'.

"As our records show, Sunil played more matches, scored more runs and centuries than me, but in terms of technique, I consider myself superior to Sunil even if by just half a percentage point," he added.

WHERE does he say he is better than Gavaskar?

I replied to Mast's claims that "Maybe Boycott is correct but let us recollect Majrekar had better technique than Sachin, so was he a better player.." argument..

My comment to Mast is - Boycott only claimed he is technically better - that too maybe just a shade....

You think different?.... Fair enough...

I didn't watch either of them, coz I wasn't a millionaire like you to have a Television in my house in the 70's, so you are free to make the judgment....

Adopt to the situation...!! Sachin..!!

Look at the number of tests gavaskar saved in his days... played marshals and garners without helmets.... in those days the game was absolutely pitted towards the bowlers... and sachin has only started playing matchwinning test knocks with a far more superior team in the last few steps of his career. And by far superior team... i consider all the indian teams from 2000.

Both are hype, they were never a match winner.I would rate sehwag much much higher than these two so-called greats.

Pavas Agarwal, from ur comment its quite evident that u dont know much about cricket. Cricket is not about hitting four's and sixes. Gavaskar use to play as opening batsman during the times when there was no helmet and the teams had bowlers like super fast bowlers like Andy roberts, Holding, Denis lille, thomson and Sachin too had to face the likes of Walsh, Ambrose, McGrath, Akram and younis. Compare them with the todays bowlers like Lee, Johnson, Steyn and u will understand the difference in the class of Sachin, Gavaskar and Sehwag.

sehwag is good player bt cnt b compaired wid sunny n sachin. n there mst nt b comparision betwn sunny n sachin as the way cricket is being played now a days is different frm those days. when gavaskar ws on peak, ODI ws jst started n he ws never been a gr8 ODI player whre as sachin is gr8 in both the format. he can stay on wkt n cn make quick runs too.gavaskar has different game n sachin has different.now a days bowling standards hv fallen nature of game has been changed totally so u cnt compair any new batsman wid old player.

Selfpraise is no recommendation.Greatness lies in accepting what others say. No body is perfect, Mr Boycott just remember this.

Boycott is world known as a wife beater and that was probably the only hits where he shamefully bettered Sunil Gavaskar - Otherwise Boycott is just an overrated, self hyped idiotic attitude commentator who is there behind the cameras for his skin colour - Truly he should be behind the bars (where they serve no drinks !!)

Gavaskar 's technique
by mg on Jul 29, 2009 05:31 AM  | Hide replies

In cricket there is no such thing as technique. Playing the game for five days only requires patience. Gavaskar's only technique was to stay at the middle and runs will come on its own was his policy. He also adviced to face fast bowlers standing at non-strikers end.

You have got it wrong. Gavaskar's advice was to rotate the strike. As for technique, you cannot score 10,000 reuns without technique. Don't say there is no such thing as technique. How to play the ball, how to leave the ball, how to run between wickets, the stance all are a part of technique.

You can score 10,000 runs without technique. Steve Waugh scored without any technique and with only guts.

Gavaskar is way ahead of boycott. Whitemen have no shame praising themselves.

Look at their list of people who where not worth their praise:

1) Alec Stewart
2) Greame Hick
3) Darren Gough
4) Marcus Trescothick
5) Andy Fowler
6) and the list goes on!

English people are always more noise and less talent.

It is unfortunate that people who have not even played a single match commenting about technique and performance of the Greats. Only when you get into the ground and face the fast bowling we will know how difficult it is to hit even a loose ball. In those days playing West Indian fast bowlers at their speed, unimaginable. Yes Gavaskar was really great!!. In today's bowling strength of the worlds all team, it would be difficult to get him out. he would have scored more number of centuries than Sachin Tendulkar.

may be he would have scored more number of centuries then Sachin , but Sachin is far more creative... he has adopted his game in different situation and still scored centuries ...that is why Gavaskar seems to me more one dimentional but Sachin is versatile.. can do whatever he wants

You are a great batsman , but certainly not as good as Gavaskar . One thing certainly I will always believe you are better commentator than Gavaskar when it comes to When Indians are palying . Gavaskar like Ravi Shastri is extremely biased as far as Mumbai players are concerned .Nothing against , it is a human folly , buit you are real great when you can over come this most common weakness.
