Sachin's contributions
by Nikunj Dixit on Feb 20, 2009 01:04 AM  | Hide replies

What sometimes people don't realize is how often sachin has carried the bat alone with everyone failing around him. Some of his best hundreds have come in losing causes because nne of the other batsmen have stuck around to help him.

Like the 99 chennai test match against pak when his fightinh ton went wasted because there was simply none to support and we lost by a paltry margin and again he was blamed for the sundry runs that he failed to gather. Ten years later the ghost was exorcised against england on the last day when yuvi came to the fore to help him pull a seemingly impossible victory(as was being felt the penultimate day.)We need players of the calibre of dhoni, gauti, veeru, bhajji, zak and yuvi among few to back up a cricketing genius and not just dravid, laxman and kumble alone

KK...I support you man...bipin and moviersandshekars are blind people...sachin is useless for india now and should be shown the door...there are other talented guys like Cheteshwar Pujara and Badri waiting in their wings and good health and age on their side...I respect sachin for his record and commitment...but we cannot carry a dead body on our shoulder and run ...if sachin is so much intrested let him become a coach and train india ...in sports all that matters is winning sentiments can be kept aside...look at the australians or americans..they care a damm about preivous records...for me winning is imp..for example u carry sachin around and play porkistan for 10 times and loose against them 10-0 will you still put the supporting statements for sachin...and i am sure the day is not far..be practical guys......

There are others. I remember a pearless 177 against Australia in 98 and maginficent perth century in his first tour to australia. Plus, the whole Australia 99 tour in which he was man of the series despite India losing 0-3.

Sachin
by Ramesh Sagi on Feb 20, 2009 12:57 AM  | Hide replies

Sachin became a popular cricketer for the following reasons.
1. He is a great cricketer. He ripped apart formidable bowling attack while he was in good form.
2. He was admired by Bradman, Viv Richards etc.
3. He got accolades from foreign media.
4. He made the highest centuries and runs
But as a matter of fact he failed many times when he was needed the most, because he couldn't sustain the pressure. I am not the only saying this. There are many others who concur with my views.

and there is everyone else who happen to have seen the bad decisions given against him.
Its not possible to play against two players who dont use bat or ball, and you are supposed to do what they say.

Sometimes they are called umpires.

Don't make hue and cry for foul decisions. Sachin should have played with the bat not with the pads.

Because he failed those times, we felt that he was needed the most. If he clicked we would say that he did his part. We never ask why did others fail because of which he was needed the most. We like to blame on the most popular guy. I am sure 'we' are Indians.

then why are you still sitting in some corner of the world and writing some rubbish things. Go and be a Tom, Dick or Harry. Forget about making centuries and scoring highest runs, first try to get selected for Ranji and then speak about Sachin. If any Tom, Dick and Harry can become a hero then why not you..Or are you one among Tom, Dick or Harry.I guess in future we all need to include one more name Tom, Dick, Harry and Ramesh....

Many will cower at the very thought of facing the wrath of these fans if they failed to deliver. This could have resulted in their untimely exit or a cardiac arrest in the park. But not Sachin. He braved all odds and was reborn all the time he was unduly criticized. How may times do we expect him to be reborn? Verily, a game is not just about winning or losing. The well known columnist Peter Roebuck calls him a masterclass entertainer after he AGAIN set the record straight in the CB series final last year. He along with the support of Dravid, Ganguly,Yuvraj,Sehwag,Irfan,Jadeja, Azhar,Zak,Bhajji, and Jumbo among others sustained the legacy of Gavaskar,Vishy, and Kapil Dev just to name a few among the older lot. Now it is upto the likes of Dhoni, Yuvraj,Sehwag,Robin,Sree,Rohit,Murali,Irfan, Rohit,Subra,Ravinder,Mishra,Dhawal,Virat,Chetan,Tanmay etc. etc. to carry foward this legacy in the best way and make India prouder as the numero uno in all formats(including the T20 one)of cricket. Yes, we can!

He along with Laxman(in tests), Vishy, Sehwag, Yuvi, Dhoni and very few can be credited for ripping apart any quality bowling attack say Australian (read Warne, M cgrath, Lee esp)whose club level bowling is superior to perhaps many other bowling attack barring the old Windies one, few Pakistani gems and a few Indian ones like the famous spin trio among others. As an opener it was always unfair to expect from him to finish the matches. If he did not win a particular match, he set up the wins as per the legendary Lara. Indians perhaps do not deserve this rare legend who blissfully ignore his masterclass act as a batter in several match-winning occasions like 1998 Sharjah Desert Storm and finals,World Cup 03 semifinal,CB Series-08 final, recent Chennai Test's incredible run chase, iner alia, to catapult Indian cricket to survive for a place as a cricket playing nation for almost 2 decades. We could have been out of the loop without him and the current breed of talented youngsters could have perchance never got to play for a nation due to the degeneration that has happened with Indian Hockey. True cricket lovers and almost any other cricketing legend eulogizes HIM barring these few arm-chair critics who cannot even hold the willow properly and face a ball coming at 50 kph. Let us also not forget that he has excelled in all formats of cricket never buckling under pressure of a billion plus fanatic fans.

Sach is GOD
by Raktabh Srivastava on Feb 20, 2009 12:29 AM

It is always high time we criticized arm-chair critics of the living legend of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. True cricketing legends like Bradman, Border,Richards, Gavaskar, Lara, Warne, Lee, Mcgrath among others have immensely admired his genius on numerous occasions. He is almot like GOD personified. India always lost because 9 out 10 times he battled as the lone ranger with little or no support for more than decade. It was perhaps a tad unfortunate for him to have spoiled his genius in India for few thankless men. He could have been a match-winner for a better cricketing side like Australia with the support of a proper cricketing side and ones with a winning attitude. Before his debut and due to exit of Gavaskar and Kapil Indian cricketing side had reconciled to the notional losses almost all the time. I can reminisce a joke doing the rounds in the late eighties and early nineties that a child tells the teacher that he wants to be in the Indian cricket as they do not beat anyone. Sachin gave the aggro quotient and revived the winning spirit in India. My generation of cricket fans can recall the changed defeatist psyche of Indian cricketing side when this youngster almost won an exhibition match against Pakistan to break the Miandad inspired Sharjah jinx with the spin legend Abdul Qadir being at the receiving end. We lost that and other matches because of lack of support on the parteners' side.

Sachin is a great player without doubt. I don't have to vouch for it. Other than Srinath I don't see any cricketer in the recent past retiring gracefully. Most of the cricketers were shown doors by selectors. I only hope Sachin will not meet the same fate.

sick and tired of this

everytime there is a post on sachin, people here come and start fooling around and start ridiculing his contribution to indian cricket. Some say he has never won us a match, which is false if you have a look at tendulkar's record in matches won by india it is the best in the world. Only sachin is accused of not winning a world cup for india, again a blatant non-sense criticism, what were dravid, ganguly, kumble, harbhajan, prasad, azhar, prabhakar, srinath, and so many other players doing? Infact they made it almost impossible for sachin to win a WC because of their bad performance. He was our best player in 92, 96 and 2003 WC. Surely he tried his hardest but somehow he never got the support he needed. 2003 was the best chance because we had a good team that was not entirely dependant on sachin, but in the finals the bowlers messed up but the whole of india made sachin as the villan forgetting that india were in the finals riding on his performance alone. The 96 semifinals is another example of how the rest of the team did'nt stand up. India needed 249 and when sachin was out for 63 india were 133-3 of 26 overs but we ended up losing 6 more wickets for hardly 20-30 runs. A WC can never be won by a single player however good he might be. But fans in india are armchai pundits and people who have never held a bat in their lives talk about a man who has scored nearly 30000 runs in intenational cricket( no mean achievement is it?).
