They are playing way past their end. I would not be surprised if they continue playing with bat in one hand and a stick in another after another 10 years.
I have a general question on statistics(Please look into India Test Career stats artilce). If a batsman scores 220 in a innings, The statistics will show that innings score under 200s and 100s but not under 50s. Why? For example in above Sachin's 248* is included in 100s but not in 50s.

cz 50 is a two digit score and 248 is three digit score. so anything from 99 to 999 is considere a 100.
Really great move by great cricketer,,, and it is application for rahul, sachin, kumble n laxman as well. I wish dada score 2-3 centuries in upcoming test series to end his cricketing career in high note,,,, others plz better u also do the same.. irrespective performances in upcoming series... yavi, rohit, kohli are in queue plz them way,,,,
Whatever the decision, the fact of the matter is that there are no suitable replacements in sight. Indian cricket would be in major strife in the tests without even a decent succession plan. Pray Cheeka and Co have the oversight to find suitable replacements fast. Forget the avarages and stats overseas, these boots are not easy to fill.
I would say that this is the right decision came at right time. The out of form Ex-Indian captian can sit back and cherish his proud days when he was in indian team..............
Sourav Ganguly's 10 year international cricket career could be easily bisected into 2 halves, the pre and the post Y2K eras. The significance of the year
2000 lies not only in the fact that he became the captain of the Indian team but also in the fact that the ICC introduced the one bouncer per over rule in
ODIs starting from that year. This introduction of the rule by the ICC had a negative impact on Sourav Ganguly's batting average, which plunged from a high
45.5 before the year 2000 to a low 34.9 between the 5 year period of 2001-2005[2]. Also, against Test playing nations(which included Zimbabwe and Bangladesh), his overall average plunged further down to 30.66, as did his 'away' average which fell to 29. He managed to score only (6) centuries between 2001-2005, of which 3 centuries were against Kenya & 1 was against Namibia.[3] This sudden drop in his batting average against Test playing nations after 2001 was clearly a result of the short pitch stuff he had to encounter from opposition bowlers. As S.Rajesh, the assistant editor of Cricinfo analyzes, Sourav Ganguly has been dismissed numerous times fending off the short ball[4] since 2001 and his average of 11.92 against the short ball has been the lowest among contemporary Indian batsman who played more than 80 ODI matches. The former captain has also been ncomfortable while attempting the 'pull' and the 'hook' shots when bowlers have dug it in short

Your post is a dumb one. He played many times better than ur Sachin. Go & check the last year series how he played some games against Australia while Ganguly was at the other end. It was a miserable day for Sachin. Statistics never show the day of the game mostly.
Do not disrespect one great Indian player by ur stupid statistics. He was the first real MAN in the indian cricket team boys.
The cricket duel between Australia & India was materilized by his century in the great 2001/2002 Aussie tour. There are many great feathers in his cap. Please stop writing any more rubbish comments.
True lovers of cricket love him. FYI: I am not a Bengali.
i think there is a serious lack of understanding n professionalism in India abt how to handle superstars on the decline .. I think much of it goes to the fact that during their prime, the media makes them demi-gods n above the sport itself.. n then there is extreme criticism when they are past their prime.. The emotional side should never cross the professional side esp in sport...even in a player's prime....cause this is what happens at the end of the career.. humiliating exits..
Dada has taken a good decision. Is he going to be the first cricketer of repute who announces his retirment in advance- after Gavaskar and Wadekar. This should make the others also contemplate their retirement plans and not make the fans ask "why not??".
