End of Fab 1
by Sameer K on Oct 08, 2008 12:21 AM  | Hide replies

this not end of Fab 4, first of all there wasnt any fab 4 in TEST Cricket for India. It can be Fab 2 or Fab 3 counting Sachin, Dravid and Laxman as these were the main batsmen who have scored against the best at a very good average, namely Australia. But Sachin and Dravid are way above with 10 thousand runs in both forms of the game.

As of now Fab 1 of Bengal has announced his retirement that too realising that the selectors had announced team for only 2 Tests. Now the Fab 1 local great of bengal knows he will be selected for the entire series.

But i hope that selection for team happens on performance and not on emotions and if a batsmen scores a You Cant Drop me useless 40 or 50, or averages 28/29, he should be sacked after the 2 tests.

Agreed Mr Mitra...this can happen only in India...if ganguly would have born in countries like Austrelia he would have been given more honor for his heroics.....in India there are lot of brainless donkeys like Sameer k, who not only have guts to accept the truth...but also have lack of understanding of cricket itself....who thinks everyone will score hundred in evry match...

As long as Ganguly was not declaring a retirement he was a burden for the team and needed to pulled.. Now that the warrior has decided to call it quits gracefully some people like Sameer K will still try to pull him down one last time.. Fact of the matter is Ganguly has been a stupendous achiever at the international level for a considerable period of time. That he has changed the face of Indian cricket as a leader often overshadows his exploits with the willow.. But statistics show that Ganguly is only 2nd to Sachin in terms of the number of ODIs he has single-handedly won for India.. Request people like Sameer K to rise above regional bias and salute a sportsperson as he signs off with dignity!

Dada's memories
by Rahul Kulkarni on Oct 07, 2008 11:50 PM

These memories will forever stay us.
1. Dada taking his shirt off on Lords balcony and celebrating by waving it while mouthing explicitives. :-)
2. Making S. Waugh wait for the toss all the time. :-)
3. Tonking the SL bowlers all over the park in Taunton in WC 99.
4. Brisbane test century in Australia tour 2003 which set up a great test series.
5. Giving youngsters like Yuvi and Bhajji all the encouragement.

If there was anything I did not like about him was his casual approach to fitness which resulted in poor fielding and running between wickets.

the match is truely won by Kaif, I know in the match Ganguly might have hit 50 runs but he was playing careless throughout the innings knowing that they may not achieve the target. Ganguly worse time started when he has got captaincy. His game spoiled with his captaincy, he was never a match winner in test game. There are hardly any moment i can live with his best test innings.

Tendulkar, Dravid, Kumble should follow suit
by Rahul Kulkarni on Oct 07, 2008 11:40 PM

Ganguly wants to retire gracefully. When he had the belief in himslef that he could make a comeback he did it 1 year ago. Now, I think he has no motivation left in him.
Similar to Ganguly, even Kumble, Dravid, Tendulkar should retire. Kumble is not so potent anymore and with Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, P. Ojha waiting in the wings he should make way for them.
Dravid has been a great servant of Indian Cricket. He has selflessly helped India in anyway possible. I guess his sudden resignation from captaincy did not go well with selectors and thats when his career started stuttering which was as solid as a wall till then. His inconsistency in recent past does not guarantee him a place in the side anymore.
Coming to the biggest daddy of all, Mr. Tendulkar has well past his prime and is a ordinary batsman now. Being one of the greatest batsman who has ever played the game, he is able to play and score runs in the game but, the finesse is gone. The dominance is missing. The immortality is over. He should probably play till he breaks Lara's highest run record in Tests which he rightfully deserves to own and then call it quits for the youngsters who are the future of Indian cricket. He can very well take a break and be back as mentor/batting coach of the team as his presence itself can be inspiring for anybody playing the game.

Dada, will miss you
by Kalyan Sundaram on Oct 07, 2008 11:35 PM

It's a decision made in time, as said by Dada one cannot wait at the start of every series & check if you are in the team or not. Most of us would agree that, Saurav had few more years of cricket with him
Dravid, VVS- start thinking ASAP
Sachin, we all know you are great, but please start delivering

Like Pakistan, we want to end this series as the highest run getter

Dada, All the best for a peaceful life ahead

We will surely miss you

WHY LIFE STARTS AT 30 FOR AN AUSSIE CRICKETER AND ENDS AT 30 FOR AN INDIAN CRICKETER??
by Junior Shelly on Oct 07, 2008 11:34 PM  | Hide replies

I really wonder how Hayden, Hussey, Ponting etc. become exceptional players as they reach 32-33 years of age, while their counter-parts in other countries go down the ladder really quickly..!!

they start playing international cricket or cricket as such at a much later age than the Indians ..No doubt the tremendous fitness levels they maintain and the advanced training that they use which the indians were exposed to recently

Dada, The Great...
by Vidya Sagar on Oct 07, 2008 11:14 PM

Good decision by Ganguly. He has contributed a lot to Indian Cricket for almost 13-14 years. He is still one of the best captain in the world. We still cannot forget under his captaincy only, India reached Final in 2003 world cup. Not Sachin or Gavaskar.....
You are an inspiration to many youngsters....
