Congratulations to Mahi & team for the Cuttack Attack by 6 wickets & 5-0 lead
by Sneha on Nov 28, 2008 05:06 PM

Wow!Congratulations for the Cuttack Attack
Barabati stadium mein England ke 'Bara' baj gaye!!England captain's 111 quota,Paul's 40 & Shah's 66 must've comforted the English side but we restricted the visitors to 270-4 making them utilise all 50 overs.Flintoff was pocketed by Ishant for a duck;the new kid seems too much after Uncle Flintoff;Bhajji claimed the prime wicket of Collingwood.
With India batting second in the 5th ODI in Cuttack & sparing 6 overs & 2 balls, its stalwarts Sachin(50),Viru(91),Captain Mahi(50),Raina(53) ensured a safe ride for India.
Best wishes to Viru, he really stood out with 91(73),but left us upset over nervous 90ties of this 'Sachin's reflection' ,but also pleased all & sundry when Viru became Man of the Match twice after 4th match.I was happy to know that he's hit 4 half tons in the 5 matches. Ummm.... the Indian Vice-captain seems to have grasped the 'winning knocks' habit of Mr. Captain Mahi. Special thanks to Sachin for hitting 50(57) completing his 90th ODI half-ton,MS 50(61)& Raina 53;the MS-Raina pair kept the run-meter going stable but Yuvi & Mahi's wicket fell very quickly. Rohit, though scored only 8,paired Raina in a mature manner, without any further disruptions.

Unfortunately, this happiness on the Indian faces and hearts was within no time replaced with fear and depression after knowing about firings in Mumbai, compelling England a 'Chale Jao' exit but,due terror & no further games. Thanks for early 5-0.

ha ha ha! inconsistent and tendulkar don't go in the same sentence. I think you need some history lessons in cricket. What do you mean by selfish. Every single run he has scored in his career has counted for the team.

I dont know why Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is playing like this when he has to retire and make room for younger and promising, dynamic players. Its high time. One rotten apple in a basket can spoil a whole basket of good apples.

he played better than dhoni and yuvraj yesterday. Atleast he scored at a faster rate than these two batsmen. In india for some people that is the only criteria to judge a player, in that regard i would rate afridi as the gr8test player in the history of cricket becoz he has the highest SR, people don't care abt consistency, class and longevity in india. I don't know what promise you've seen in raina and rohit. i can tell you that sachin even today is more dynamic than a dhoni, raina, or rohit sharma. Has any of these young guns showed the kind of promise that sachin showed when he was 18 and came into int cricket. Actually dropping seniors just for the sake of it will not benifit indian cricket and the next generation have to fight for their places in the indian team and rohit and raina are not doing anything exceptional to replace anyone in the team let alone sachin.

I disagree with your statement that Sachin played better than Dhoni. It seems you only read score board and do not watch the game. Batting had become extremely difficult by the time Dhoni came. That was only too expected. That is why the team strategy was to hit out fast and furious as long as the track permitted. In this assignment Sachin could not match Sahwag. No discredit to him for Sahwag is a much younger person. This is where age matters. We respect Sachin just as we respected Kumble. But Sachins presence is not helping as much as it used to and in fact at Kanpur, after the match was reduced to T-22, it appeared Sachins slow scoring rate would cost India the match. Kumble departed when he saw abler replacements. About Sachin I am not too sure whether we have any abler replacement as yet but I think he should vacate the opening slot for Gambhir in the interest of team India.

what is your logic man? Do you mean sachin batted slow yesterday? Look at his SR it is 87 that was better than dhoni, yuvraj and better than gambhir's career SR. Gambhir when he got a 50 in the first game scored at a SR of 81, when sehwag scored at a SR of over 100, why did'nt you expect gambhir to match sehwag then? The thing is we expect too much from tendulkar and even when he has scored a 50 we think it's not enough. When dhoni came in the required run rate was below 5 an over and we still had one powerplay left, infact batting had become easier becoz there was a lot of due in the outfield and when the ball gets wet it stops to swing and seam and comes on to the bat easily whereas when sehwag and sachin were batting the ball was new and it was swinging for some time. India were not chasing 450, they were chasing only 270 and in that context sachin played a decent inng.

You are RIGHT.

Either Sachin should play regularly or he should go out permanently. His ON and OFF playing disturbs and unsettles three players at a time.

1. First, he disturbs Gautam Gambhir who has to move away from opening slot.
2. Secondly, he distrurbs one player from middle order, who has to sit out on bench.(When Gambhir returns, either Raina or Rohit will be out)
3. Thirdly, one player has to out of squad of 14 players and such player gets distrurbed. (M. Vijay Kumar in this series)

dude he is not disturbing the opening combination, it's just that when he was taking rest these two have formed a good opening partnership, what wrong did he do yesterday, He scored at a SR of 87, if that is being selfish then all players are selfish in this team except sehwag are selfish. Wait till we play in SA or Aus where there is bounce and movement of the pitch, the picture will be clear as to who is the best opener? What was sehwag's scores in aus where he was asked to open? He was even dropped from the final 11, Sachin is also the gr8test match-winner ever not only in indian cricket but also world cricket, these are some stats to prove it
mat-208 runs 9939 100-30 50-72 sr-89.12 avg-57.12
sachin did'nt have the team he has now when he started playing and almost always he was the one whom india looked upto for winning a match. I know stats don't tell the whole picture but they have some indication for the quality of the player and sachin if he had not performed consistently for over 18 odd years would not have been in the team this long.
