he has already taken rest in 3 matches so he was not wrong in making himself available for the remaining 4 matches......why are not other batsmen like sehwag, gambhir, dhoni etc being asked to rest as they have played non stop cricker!!
Re: Re: Re: @fff may be right..

sachin n kohli can open incase sehwag is rested with gambhir at one down. pls dont say that dhoni cant be rested...we dont want to have him exhausted

sachin is worst and selfish player in the world. He must throw out from the team.
it shall keep sehwag, gambhir out of comfort zone.ditto for sachin also. and also rohit and raian need to perform consistenly to fight place in playing 11.
Re: sachin in team is a sweet selection headache..
by JeyaPrasath on Nov 27, 2008 12:53 PM
It gives more opening options and also urges youngsters to perform consistently for the ODI place...

No it is a headache for upcoming talents of India. He is a pain in their a**!

let him play if he is performing. the point is, is gambhir happy at no 3?. sehwag -gambhir is pair for future.
Re: Re: Re: Re: sachin in team is a sweet selection headache..
by JeyaPrasath on Nov 27, 2008 12:59 PM
Absolutely correct... Let anybody play in 11 if they perform. Age doesn't matter if their experience is fruitful for the team. And youngsters can learn a lot from masters if we have a balanced team.

i think it is a headache for you too bcos he will keep scoring runs and that will be difficult for u to digest!!!!
Re: @fff

stats is for stat-addicts. Just yesterday's debacle (keeping out Gambhir to cement Sachin's position as opener) is enough to justify my argument. He is not capable of playing down the order anymore in ODIs (cannot maneuver the ball, gets out bowled or lbw), he can only get some edges & pushes with the new-ball (because of pace) and he can make few runs with field-restrictions to shut the critics. But he is not broad-minded enough to see that there are others who take the attack to the opposition and make team win always.
Re: Re: @fff
by sudhir khosla on Nov 27, 2008 12:19 PM
still he scored 50 off 57 balls at a strike rate better than dhoni's.........and BTW gambhir was rested and not dropped from the team in yesterdays match as he has played not stop cricket in the last one year.
Re: Re: Re: @fff
by f f f on Nov 27, 2008 12:32 PM
Any layman can point out his selfish-attitude in yesterday's game! Dhoni made sure that India won. Sachin should actually have played that role (Coming in at critical situation and take the team home). But he is so impotent and he wants the hard-new ball to inflate his stats. That's it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: @fff
by sudhir khosla on Nov 27, 2008 12:40 PM
rubbish....infact dhoni was out stumped after having his foot on the crease but his luck is such these days that everything is going his way....nobody is questioning the need for him to come at the fall of yuvraj's wicket.......he should have sent rohit sharma so that he could get good practice......what is the use of sending sharma when only 17 runs are left to be scored......is this how dhoni intends to give chance to youngsters!!!!!

FFF talk abt facts, just dont say abstract things like he plays selfishly, or he does that this, he scored 50 of 54, so he didnt do a bad job, he just won the finals in Aus which india never had won, Wat is ur explanation for that
for supporting munaf in his dark days. negative criticism by gavaskar and prasad almost finished munaf. now munaf though lost pace , is bowling good line and length ( though he must avoid short balls ). Dhoni treated sehwag badly in austrlia in ODIs. hopefully now he has realised his folly.
Re: Re: good move by dhoni.
by sudhir khosla on Nov 27, 2008 12:16 PM
no dhoni was not forced to keep sachin in....instead dhoni kept yuvraj in the team despite his pathetic showing in the vb series.
i think our batting order should be such that it maximises the runs scored by the top order ie top three. So considering the avg runs scored at a particular position, the batting order should be:- 1.sehwag (avg 35) 2.sachin (avg 45) 3.gambhir (avg 40) Total of top three = 120 runs
instead of :- 1.sehwag (avg 35) 2.gambhir (avg 40) 3.sachin (avg 11) Total of top three = 86 runs
Therefore in the teams interest sehwag n sachin should open with gambhir coming at one down.

fff -------- Why dont you f off?? You know you are talking shit and yet you continue. Are you a garbage picker or toilet cleaner? Instead of going back to work why do you want to get into an argument with intellectuals? You are only showing your ignorance. Please get away from cricket totally since you are talking only nonsense. .
Re: Re: batting order
by sudhir khosla on Nov 27, 2008 12:03 PM
sachin contributes more than anybody else as an opener ie 45runs so how can u think of dropping him!!!!
Re: Re: Re: batting order
by f f f on Nov 27, 2008 12:05 PM
He contributes to himself, not to team. Others will play selflessly and don't crib with averages.
Re: Re: Re: Re: batting order
by sudhir khosla on Nov 27, 2008 12:07 PM
do u want to say that his runs are not included in the team's score.....give me a break!!!
i don't know how they beat sa 4-0 in ODis. or may be india has become very strong sehwag in prime form, yuvi going great guns, gambhir consisten as ever, dhoni the master mind and finisher. on top of this sharp bowling attack by zaheer, munaf and ishant. hmm. no stopping for india now.
Re: Re: very weak england team..
by Deepak on Nov 27, 2008 12:13 PM
If at all this series would ve been held in England, the scoreline would ve been 5-2 or 4-3 in favour of India, Indians are using their home comditions well
Re: Re: Re: very weak england team..
by HI on Nov 27, 2008 12:16 PM
not only home conditions, the strength comes by inform of all players except rohit. even in aus, india would win now.
He will make sure that Cricket is a Team-Game and no more an individual's game. Look at the way he concentrates on Bowling (which needs more & more improvement compared to the batting). Even Ganguly tried hard to make sure that India's bowling gets strengthened, he was responsible for the emergence of bowlers like Harbhajan, Pathan, Zaheer, etc. Dhoni also did well with Shreeshanth, RP, etc (They must improve, but they are very well encouraged). Srinath (such a senior) used to proudly call Ganguly as "My Captain", because Ganguly respected and knew how to deal with a senior-pro. There were other useless captains who used bowlers like bullocks.
Sehwag is a jewel in the crown of Indian batting, who is a team man to the core, who is street smart, who places team interests ahead of personal mile stones.
He lost out another opportunity yesterday to score a hundred. But that is typical of the man, who won't and shouldn't change.
If you glean his statistics, he has scores of over 70 on 16 occasions in ODIs (4 against England, 4 against Pakistan, 2 against West Indies and 1 each against Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Srilanka, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong). He has only 9 centuries to show so far which number could have been as well doubled, if only he had thought of personal milestones and laboured to convert his high 50's into 100's.
As often pointed out by experts, even with scores of 40 or 60, Sehwag makes wins possible and life easier for the middle order batsmen, since he scores his runs at a blistering pace, leaving enough time and overs to the rest to complete the job.
I have no doubt that in this series, he has helped India win 4 of the 5 ODIs, with 4 half centuries.
I must however add that Cricket is a team game and a win with team effort (meaning, with contributions from many players out of the XI) are far more enjoyable than those achieved with only one or two players contributing.

Well said. Cricket is a team-game now and no more individual's game! We will get back the times of 1983 for sure. In between we had horrific-phase where few individuals were glorified to the core!
England should try Luke wright. He is 20-20 specialist and can give aggressive start to england which is necessary to make 300 runs. 270 is not enough in subcontinent. They should call Mechrenas also.
