Kudos, to the great man. He is surely one of the greatest cricketers. We people daily just sit and comment , irrespective of their achievements. One thing is for sure. India ia blessed to have cricketers who have played for more than 12 years , even 19 years. You will never ever in the future see such a lengthy careers to any of the upcoming sportsmen.

Now Kumble…..Next Saurav……..Dravid………….Sachin

My GOD , its really unbearable. We are privileged to see you guys play

Strenght and honor
by saurabh kathuria on Nov 03, 2008 04:39 PM

I have see so many responses in this community, just few days back ppl in this very discussion board, were comparing his captaincy to Dhoni's .... anyways i wont get in to all that, I just wanted to pay homage to the greatest Indian bowler ever.... to be honest If we ever eyed victory in test cricket it was always because we knew and hoped that Kumble would take lots of wickets in that match..I wont repeat all that has been said just wanted to say that u always instilled the sense of strength and honor in team mates and we audiences... GOD bless you , you served this nation well.... I wish to be a person like you . Man of honor and strength

Anil Kumble

Kumble has finally retired himself. Good. I think he should have done it a couple of years back. He was not the same force as he used to be earlier. Even dropped from one dayers. Destiny has it that he had to captain Indian Team and he continued. Thanks to Rahul Dravid and Dhoni considered young and not mature enough at that time.

I think the other seniors will follow suit. Even Tendulkar. There is no sense in saying that there are no suitable replacements. Many great players retired and the game continued. Newer faces came up. Given chance, an youngster would probably be contributing as much as Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman. Did we imagine Gautam Ghambir to click as much as he is clicking now.

How many years it took to find good openers? How many years it took to find a good keeper after Mongia?

If we have to wait for those many years, We can replace Sachin, Dravid & Kumble. For me, to replace Kumble it might take as many days as the wickets taken by him to find a bowler like him. Even then we might not find a gentleman like him. Let us give a break and players decide about when they have to quit.

Thank you !
by sylesh gopan on Nov 03, 2008 04:16 PM  | Hide replies

Thats what I want to tell you Kumble, thank you. You have been a fighter through out your career, dare I say that, you were the lone fighter with both bat & ball in our team. You had put pressure on yourself more than anyone, in each spells you expected yourself to get couple of wickets and setup the game for India. With bat in your hand you had shown the same grit even the frontline batsmen lacked. Debate will be on for months to come whether your decision is correct or not, but the best person to answer that is you only. You have played the game for the last two decades and no one would know better thatn you when to hang up the boot. So if you have decided, you would have done it as the best option. We will miss your never say die attitude in the field, and I hope someone takes it up in the ranks. All the very best for your future live.

the suddenness of the announcement was difficult to digest. if he wanted to leave after this series he could have said it earlier so that fans would hav been prepared. and the injury added a sad twist to it.

all said and done HAIL KUMBLE, THE MAN WITH THE BIG HEART, BIG SHOULDER AND BIG DEEDS.
KUMBLE HAS STRADDLED THE FEILD LIKE A COLOSSUS FOR ALMOST 2 DECADES. IT HAS NOT JUST SUNK IN STILL......

Perfect decision
by lee on Nov 03, 2008 03:48 PM

This is called the right decision, quit with prestige. It was time when Kumble's performance was not upto his level. This is quite understandable as the great guy was 38 years old and one cannot xpect the same agility from him when he was 28. But had he not retired, then it would have got worse later. So now, we see Kumble as one of the all time great Indian bowler who was always at his peak whenever he played for India.
