Long live Jumbo!

Sri Anil Kumble has always been my favourite cricketer. He is one of the best bowlers that not just India but the world has seen. His never say die spirit and gentlemanly behaviour makes him unique. Vacuum created by Jumbo will take long time to be filled. He has set such an example that the generations to come will look upto. All the best to the biggest match-winner of Indian test cricket for all his future endeavours. We will miss you man! Long live Jumbo!

Absolutely zero support from other end!
by sandeep kumar on Nov 03, 2008 11:08 AM

At one point, some unknowns like Karavilla, ganesh, jonson, prasant vaidya were so called strike bowlers. He had to do 99% of the work load until zaheer and co came along. Surely the greatest ever bowler!

kumble vs warne...COMMENTS
by sandeep kumar on Nov 03, 2008 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

1.Warne failed against sub continental batsmen. He was hammered by Sidhu,de silva, sachin etc. Whereas Kumble took wickets against every opposition
2.Warnes main wkts were against England and South africa, who were woeful players of spin.Even sehwag would have got wickets against them. Kumble had perfect 10 against pakistan, who were top players of spin
3. Kumble had no great opening bowler. He had to do the job himself. Warne had mcgrath and gillespie.
4.Kumbles batting much better than warnes. Also he has a test hundred in england
5. Kumble had a superb googly, while warne never bowled googly

ALso the fact that KUmble had no history of drug usage, indiscretions, action questioning(like muralitharan) makes him the greatest spin bowler ever. He has brought joy to millions of bengalru guys and Indians!!

1. Warne failed only against India. Warne have virtually killed other teams from the sub-continent like Pakistan.

2. Warne have performed against each and every team except India. Warne took most of his wickets on non spinning tracks outside the sub-continent, while Kumble took most of his wickets on spinning tracks in the sub-continent.

3. True.

4. In Test cricket Kumble averages 17.77 with the bat, while Warne averages 17.32

5. Warne have more variations and deliveries than Kumble can even dream of.

Which is a more easier position to bowl under, 100-3 or 100-0. Kumble always came into bowl when the cream of the top order was still operating but warne had the likes of mgrath and gillespi who would invariably get a wicket in their first spell. Warne in terms of ability is way ahead of kumble, but kumble to india was far more effective than warne to australia.

1. Warne not only failed against India, in fact a good batsmen from subcontinent always played him better. Sidhu, Azhar, Laxman, Arvinda, Ranatunga, Saleem Malik, Inzy all played him well. He was no mystery to a good player of spin. I agree Warne had lot more deliveries than Kumble but for sure Kumble was a better bowler afterall he bowled successfully with seam upright too! (Pak vs India recently). His accuracy was much better than Warnie. Warnie is probably the best spinner till now (if not Murali!). Kumble is probably a best Bowler!
