Why are you blaming Rohit Sharma?
by Keshav on Feb 25, 2008 06:09 AM

What did he do? He is just 20. He played atleast 3 decent innings. Tendulkar failed either to convertor never got going like in last 3 matches. Stop blaming youngsters for screw up of Seniors like Tendulkar, Yuvraj, Sehwag.

Misleading title of the article
by Cricket on Feb 25, 2008 05:54 AM  | Hide replies

Well.. I was watching the match yesterday on Channel 9, and nowhere did I find Lee bowled well at all.. (contrary to whatever his bowling figures suggest)..
We are blasting Sreesanth for giving away 58 in 8. Look at Lee - giving away 58 in 9. And when did he bowl? When India's top order was broken.. (no such luxury of having 1/92 in 10 overs Sir, we were tottering at 4/51 in more than 10 overs..)
When did he take those 5 wickets? Except for the first two (Sachin and Dhoni, the former a gift from the umpire, the latter a visibly struggling captain trying to somehow be there), the last 3 were purely because the batsmen had to hit out or get out.. which they did..
In fact one over from him (which went on for 9 balls and where Uthappa really swatted a free hit in the crowd) was simply pathetic..
I would rather have the title say "Despite Lee's bowling, Australia still managed to Win"..
:-)

Don't compare Lee with Sreesanth. Lee is exceptionally better than sreesanth.

Mr. PKR.
Apparently you neither watched the match live, nor read my comments before jumping to your conclusion.
I never mentioned Gilly's wicket. And you conveniently forgot Sachin's dismissal.
The very point I am making is that there is nothing in getting 5 wickets at the stage India were in.
When Aussies weren't even under the pressure to chase, they had 2 runouts in the last over. What does that prove? They are bad runners?
But when Indians under pressure lose 3 quick wickets hitting out, how come Lee "bowled Aussies to victory"? THAT is the question I am raising.
He got belted plenty, and got belted when Indians were reeling at 4/51, with even 150 not in sights rightfully.
That's why I say that Aussies won "despite" Lee's bowling, not because of it.

Mr cricket on I respect your opinion that does not mean I agree with you Yes I watched the match till Sehwag got out fully and in bits after that Sachins dissmissal whether gift or not is immaterial He was out lbw Lee in record books In record books Lee has 5 wkts 5wkts in bowling is considered as equal to a century. And Lee is the highest wicket taker this season and not Sreesanth So no harm in headlines If i were the writer i would start by BRILLIANT LEE BOWLS AUSSIES TO AN EASY WIN

Hi Mr. PKR:
I very much value your sensible language and the approach to this debate.
However your very admission that a)you didn't watch the severe belting received by Lee, and b) the fact that he got 5 wickets, and c)the fact that he is "generally" a good bowler, and then finally d) that's why this title for the article is appropriate - goes in to show the shallowness this reporter who wrote this artcile.
I'm sure he picked up the tidbits from news agencies, he didn't bother to watch the match just like you (I'm sure you didn't do it deliberately. More so out of disinterest maybe - Sachin/Sehwag is out so what's there to watch types). Yet he entitled the article this very way..
That's the point I'm trying to raise. I too am a great Lee fan. He is a great bowler. But not yesterday.

Sure anitha, don't compare Lee with Sreesanth.. you have answered the biggest question.
Both give away runs, get slaughtered. The former gets hit under no pressure situation, the latter gets hit despite the opponents being on the mat at 4/51. Yet you say Lee is exceptionally better than Sreesanth.
You must have enjoyed the article.. and I can very well tell that you didn't watch the match live yesterday. Hence the article looks all right to you.

Just to clarify, I am not saying Sreesanth is better than Lee. Lee is a much better bowler generally.
All I am saying is that he didn't bowl well at all yesterday. Same as saying that Sachin is a tremendously better batsman than Harbhajan. Just that he didn't play well yesterday.
All my comments are related to the original message from Cricket, which is about the above specific article; which was written for a specific match.. which you apparently didn't watch live.. :-)
Got it?

Sehwag, Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma: If these three don't lift their games fast they should be dropped. At least Yuvraj has one fifty in the series in a pressure situation.

It was a great game!
by Cricket on Feb 25, 2008 05:37 AM  | Hide replies

After a long time (and the first time in this tri-series), the true cricket fans had a match they could relish.
It was played like a genuine one dayer, not like some pathetic below-test-match standard game like the last Australia-Srilanka match where SL scored 77 in 30 overs chasing 184..
This match will be remembered for Ponting's return to form, for some spirited middle over bowling by India, for gutsy fightback by Indian lower order, and for the up-to-last-over excitement this match generated..
Bravo to Indian team, bravo to Aussie team, and bravo to Cricket. Cricket was the true winner yesterday.
We look forward to many more such matches. All teh best to Team India.. Go, you can do it!
