Sachin is the smart cricketer
by pradeep naik on Sep 15, 2007 03:18 PM  | Hide replies

When he was captaining India at that time lot of gambling took place ( Eating money not food!)Mohamed Azer , Aee ga behind the wicket( Nayan ) then Ajay Jadeja. So he was playing with 8 players only!! Now the team is playing for India there is no match fixing. Now it is very good time to be captain for the team & obvious choice is Sachin the GREAT!
No doubt Dravid was very sincere cricketer & very honest to the country & very good gentleman and Great batsman. But you need shrewd man or dada type person to lead the team. Why you need dada ( goonda) type person when you have Golden boy of world cricket . Whenever we reach final of world cup mainly because of Sir Sachin!

I DO AGREE WITH YOU HE IS A LEGEND. BUT LEGEND ALWAYS CONTRIBUTES WHEN THE SITUATION SO WARRANTS. IN HIS CASE WHEN INDIA WANTED HIM TO PERFORMA, HE ALWAYS THREW AWAY HIS CRICKET KNOWINGLY OR OTHERWISE, AND PLAYS ALWAYS BELOW THE POTENTIAL. TAKE A COUMPLE OF FINAL MATCHES, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE BAT SECOND AND HIS CONTRIBUTION IS VERY NEGLIGIBLE. THIS IS NOT TO TAKE AWAY WHAT HE ACHIEVED ALL THESE YEARS. A GREAT CRICKETER SHOULD ALWAYS COME TO RESCUE OF A TEAM WHEN IT WANTED HIM VERY BADLY BUT UNFORTUNATELY HE WAS AND STILL HE IS A FAILURE. COMING TO CAPTAINCY, HE HIMSELF RELINGUISHED THE POST HONOURABLY TO DO AWAY BURDEN ON HIS HEAD. IN OTHER WORDS CAPTAINCY BURDENED HIM WHICH CREATED BAD PATCHES IN HIS BATTING. SO IT WOULD BE IN FITNESS OF THINGS IF BCCI REFRAINS FROM ASKING THIS MAN TO TAKE UP THE MANTLE. EVEN WITHOUT DRAVID AND TENDULKAR, INDIA HAVE A BRIGHT FUTURE AS FAR AS CRICKET IS CONCERNED. GIVE CHANCES TO YOUNSTERS SO MANY OF WHOM ARE KNOCKING ON THE DOORS. BE AWAY FROM BIASED POLICY AND REGIONALISM WHILE SELECTING THE TEAM. BETTER FORGET HINDU, CHRISTIAN OR MUSLIM WHILE SELECTING PROCESS AND WE SELECT ONLY INDIANS. JAID HIND

Dravid did what suits him
by Abed Jani on Sep 15, 2007 03:05 PM

Dravid is an intelligent person and likes to play safe. He had seen how the ex Indian captains were treated in the past when things went wrong. Captaining Indian teams, specially cricket is a high-pressure, thankless job. Some people just love to hate someone who is from some other state (as it was for Ganguly). And there is a big part of us, including media, always try to find something negative about the captian. A captain is as good as the team. Even when the team fails collectively, the fault goes to captian. And if his form is not at its peak, people will pointed their gun to him. India may need some non-playing captian like Davis cup :-)

Wishing good luck to Dravid. Hope he will again prove to be the most dependable Indian batsman. If Sachin or Ganguly shows interest in captainship, it will prove that they did not learn their lesson. Let's see how the drama ends.

Good decision by Dravid
by Dennis Christie on Sep 15, 2007 02:13 PM

Thw Wall has finally crumbled under pressure. Dravid did the right thing by stepping down as captain. He is India's best test batsman at this moment- and an all time great, yet he fared poorly in test matches in SA and England. We desperately need Dravid the batsman for the sake of Indian cricket.
Dravid was patchy as a captain. India wont miss him as a capatain but certainly was missing him as a batsman.

Dravid was a much better captain
by Terminator on Sep 15, 2007 01:02 PM  | Hide replies

Under Dravid, India has won Test series in WI(without Sachin and Gang) and England which gang could not do in 5 yrs of his captaincy.

Although, India was knocked out of WC07, but Dravid did perform in the decider -- Gang, Sachin and Dhoni didn't perform at all. So, however good a captain be, if the players don't perform then its not wise to blame captain -- who is performing in Dravid's case -- unlike gang who only rode on other 10 players shoulders.

of course, I'm not a fanatic about any player.
So, I do know and agree that gang is a good and important member of team as of now.

and mind you, the best day for Indian cricket was when ur 'great dada' was kicked out from the team because GANG WAS NOT PERFORMING.

At least Dravid has the guts and honesty that he realized that captaincy was affecting his performance, so in the best interest of team, he relinquished the captaincy -- unlike gang who clung to the post like anything :)

who let the dogs out...now they have started barking on cricket

FYI, your 'dada' knew only abt 'captaincy' and depended on the rest 10 players in the team for any result.
On the other hand, Dravid has won the test series in WI (without that poor gang) and in England (without a match turning inning from him).

your great 'dada' won us 1 test series overseas -- that too against Zimbabwe which very soon relinquished the Test status on its own!!!

The Terminator......It is obvious that you do not like dada. That is okay but not take away what he has achieved as a cricketer, coupled with captaincy. No Indian could perform the way he performed as a captain. But unfortunately he was dumped by the Board in connivance with Mr Chapel, the then great Coach, the great Dravid and others. No cricketer came to his rescue, even Tendulkar did not help him. Gone is gone, then a god-sent opportunity came to him, thanks Vengsarkar, the gentleman cricketer, Dada grabbed the opportunity and performed to his potential. Where is Chapel, the then custodian and guardian of Indian cricket. Our own people partnered with a foreign coach to tarnish the image of this great cricketer. It is the turn around and the god sent opportunity for him to perform and reach to the extreme heights if captaincy is given to him. He is man with self respect and he would not seek somebody's help to take up the mantle, I am sure. Dada, the ever great. Sachin the legend but of no use when badly needed.
