I agrre with you Wadekar was first to win Test series agianst Mighty Windies & England in their country . So wadekar has place in history. Then it is dravid who did that. Also Dravid is first to win Test Match in South africa. When India defeated Pakistan in test series under Ganguly,at taht time also Dravid captained 2 matches out of 3. So Dravid was best captain after Wadekar as far as Test Cricket is concerned.

Dravid is unacceptable
by Indra Sengupta on Sep 16, 2007 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

Dravid is unacceptable to most of the players. Suman is repeatedly blaming 2 ex Captains for Dravids decision to resign. Even if it is a fact, although there is no evidence or report to that effect, it is still a question why these two would be opposing him. He must have done something to spoil the career or reputation of these two. If Dravid can not handle the seniors and other players, take crucial decisions on or off the field why one should repent for his absence.
It is his own choice to allow him to concentrate on batting and there is no harm in it as no body is going to object.
Sauravs case was totally different.
He was removed when he was showing signs or recovery from a bad patch.
His ouster was carefully planned and materminded.
To ensure plugging of Sauravs slot as a batsman Pathan and Raina were groomed deliberately.
Crime never pays and michinations do not last.
Saurav made a comeback and made history. This is a lesson for all who want to be something in life.
Rahul comes no where near by any means.

Hi Sen Gupta..please dont support Ganguly blindly who is resopnsible for Indias WC loss and he is not fit to be in the Bengal team also..Yes Dravid has resigned just bcos of Ganguly and the greatest selfish man Sachin as saif by Suman...Chappel/Dravid/pathan/ raina and co won 17 matches consecutively not aginst minnows but against England and Srilanka..Ganguly and Tendulkar came back and spoilt the whole momentum in the team ..

ganguly is cheap cunning politiican he used dalmiy when in power tostay as non perfroming captain when ganguly did not deserve to be XII man and backstabed him when he lost power used left party mps influence to get back door entry
promoting groupism, playing for sponsers wasting ball, and sachin joined him b'cuz he wanted to become captain. stat proved that dravid did good job in 2yrs as captian and both are jealous of him dravid managed team without coach even when 2ex captains and chief selector never respected and cooperaed him as captain.ganguly is outset is b'cuz of his poor form and icc ban.
dravid did nothad any godfather like ganguly had dalmiaya and ganguly comeback history using politiican influence dravid will never do such thing.
dravid was nominated for icc captain of yr award, earned captain of icc test team, highest winning average in odis in w yrs gnaguly 5 yrs) and won historic test win in SA, sereies in WI without ganguly and tendulakr, now in england, 18 odis win by chase and no odi series loss in home etc... dravid did better job as captain. what ganguly success in first 2 yrs of captan?
take out dravid's contributions ganguly succss will worst than sachin.
sachin has 2 god fathers and ganguly had dalmiay
even dravid batting average in test better than sachin also he stands tall when it comes to contributions to winning team india in test check the stat
only ganguly chelas like yuvraj and zhair khan did not like dravid's captaincy
even herb

This horrible Dravid supporter does not use capital letter to start a proper noun. You will not find a single correct sentence above.
If Ganguly can successfully use politicians for getting justice to him, there is no harm. If Dravid runs away from captaincy for improving his game it is nobody%u2019s fault.
Lamenting like a beggar will not achieve anything. If you have capacity to turn the tide against and snatch justice, do that.

"He was removed when he was showing signs or recovery from a bad patch" -- what signs....when he was forced into the team due to politics rather than any solid performances in the domestic circuit or county circuit? He did not score much in domestic matches to deserve any kind of recall.

captaincy record
Odi record for ind captains
Names      Matches       Won       Lost       Drawn/TWon%
Kapil Dev74       40      32       2       54.05%
Azharuddin173       89       76       6/2       51.45%
Tendulkar73       23       43       6/1       31.51%
Ganguly 146      76       65       5       52.05%
Dravid 79      42       33       4       56.00
while ganguly had led team for 5 yrs with full support of dalmiay dravid won more matches in less than 2 yrs while 2ex captains breathing his neck aginst his captincy dravid did good job but his teammates only ditched him In Sl team no ex captian or senior players are not jealous of mahilas' promotion as captian and all players support him and play as one unit not for sponsers or self record so SL team is doing better

test record
team won historic test series in WI England in won test in SA under dravid captaincy also dravid named by ICC as captain of ICC test team last year stat prove dravid did good job as test and odi captain.
Odi record for ind captains
Test record of ind last 3 capains.
Names      Matches       Won       Lost       Drawn winls ration

Tendulk 25       4       9 12 0.44
Ganguly 49      29      13 15       1.62
Dravid 25      8       6 11       1.33
In less than 2 yrs dravids achievement as captain praiseworthy but ind media/ex cricters always keep on dravid bashing while no guts highlight the dirty polotics of 2 ex captains tendulkar wants to be captain and ganguly did not want to harm his stat as successful captian. Dravid gave 100%performance when he played under ganguly and tendulkar but betrayed by superstars.

I don't agree that Dravid wasn't a good captain. He was a true leader. A leader is one who leads by example. He was cool. wasn't getting exaggerated nor getting carried on. The decision to resign is his personal so i do respect his decision. Every body talks that Dada is a great captain. Ya he was good. But just look back. Dravids test average under his captaincy is 100. All the batsman's were at peak form when he was the captain hence results showed. But India wasn't doing well during finals and under pressure situtions. Its bcoz dada himself cant deal with pressure. I think next captain should be Yuvraj or Dhoni. bcoz they both can deal with pressure. Captaining India is just dealing with external pressure rather than internal. And also with the worst politics of BCC

Mr. Writer. Dont think you are such a wonderful analyst because you are not.

Not one line in your whole article suggested something. All you did was BCCI bashing. Fine just tell everyone what to do now.

Its not the boards fault if Virender Sehwag went so terribly out of form that could not merit a place even in the side. He was a vice-captain for a long, long time.

You are making such a big hulabaloo of not grooming anyone but a player has to be in the team to be groomed. Whom shud we have groomed? Piyush Chawla wen he was born yest, or RP singh or Zaheer Khan or Gautam Gambhir or Robin Uthappa!

This article is only a piece of sh**. Why no-one questioned why Ganguly is not in the running for the captaincy ? Why give it to Tendulkar. And wen we are so used to thrusting players in the middle against quality bowlers at the opening slot. Why be afraid of thrusting Dhoni in to the Hot seat.

People like you just talk all non-sense and dont make sense one bit.

ask him to wear Huggies against pace bowlers.

FYI...Dravid did very well in the one-days. In the last test series, Dravid has been a failure (3 bad umpiring decisions) and Mr. SG has been very ordinary test batsman thru out his career averaging around 40 runs. Even in the last 12 innings against SA and England, SG scored around 440 runs (2 poor umpiring decisions) without any big scores to show. If he was really a good batsman, he should have stepped up and scored a couple of big centuries which would have made a huge difference. Instead this 40s and 50s shows that Ganguly is an ordinary batsman even when he is in the best of form. Just compare SG's scores to what Dravid Scored Under Ganguly.

The decision to resign has come at the correct time. People who have captured the media and doing Dravid Bashing will atleast have no chance to do that. Whatever India has achieved in the recent past is due to the great efforts of Dravid to a great extend but people calling themselves communists and spending crores on Durga puja will never allow anyone else other than Sourab for publicity which is probably the reason why Bengal is not able to produce any good cricketer ispite of having some 8 Academies such as Ashok Malhotra, Arun lal, Sourab, Pronab Roy, Sambaran, etc. Star Ananda should focus on reality rather than illusion .

Dravid's leadership innovative, top-class
India vs England: Third Test
August 17, 2007

A win is a win, and while there will be plenty who felt that a '2-0' win sounds better than a '1-0' win, the fact that a series that looked difficult to save after the Lords Test was won.

As in any successful venture, a good foundation and platform needs to be there for the winning structure to be built much easier for the rest. The Jaffer-Karthik partnership has blossomed since South Africa, and they now bid fair to be one of the more successful ones Indian cricket has had.

What a coincidence!
by Sathish P on Sep 16, 2007 08:07 AM  | Hide replies

This is a coincidence - BCCI president is from Bombay, Charmain of Selectors is from Bombay and Sachin of Bomabay becomes captain!!!

I am sure this is pure coincidence and nothing else, and there are no politics involved and it's all because of the greater good of indian cricket! What a joke.

This following statement ticks me big time...
"Tendulkar has been sounded for the job by the Board. It is now upto him to make up his mind,"

Sounded by Board??? Bullshit. It's only sounded by Vengsarkar, and no one else so why are they making it board's? He's been very vocal about his preference for Sachin as captain.
Sachin must be partying now, there is no making up mind, he's been wanting it for so long.

If it is really to give chance to some senior player to lead the team then it should have been given to Ganguly before Sachin. Ganguly is much better leader than Sachin for sure, and we should just leave Sachin alone for making records for himself.

We can't blame poor Dravid to throw in the towel, he was there just given captaincy but everything is being controlled by Vengsarkar. So there is nothing for Dravind in there.

As long as Pawar is in power, Vengy would be hanging there and Sachin would be captain until he walks into field in a wheelchair.

Goddamn politics in Cricket. As long as there are leaders like Powar and Vengsarkar who give more preference to their region than greater good of the country, we would be like this.

If what is written in the article is true,Dravid did the right thing in stepping down.If the other seniors, people with whom he had played for so long, were grouping up against him,it makes sense to step away from it all.Dravid seems to be a simple man; and a simple man cant play dirty politics. So he's done the right thing...probably the only choice available to him.
