I support Rahul Dravid's ommiss
by GRT Guru on Oct 30, 2007 02:06 PM  | Hide replies

I support the decision of Rahul Dravid's Omission. Because he is not a match winner in the ODI matches. Yes I agree he can hold the innings by playing in one end. But in last two season he did not contribute to our team. Secondly Sachin is playing Dravid's role these days, Sachin is not able to score quick runs as he did once. One team can not accomadate to slow batsmen to hold the innings.

I fully support Selectors decision to drop Dravid but I dont like the way he was dropped. It seems Vengsarkar has taking personal revenge against Dravid. He should atleast informed Dravid's omission through phone.

Now King Khan is fitter than Dravid. Can we play him ? Fitness is crucial, but what he delivered is most important

You lack cricketing knowledge. Sachin is scoring run quickly. have u watched the England & Scotland series? in series against Australia he has scored quickly . The only times he scored slowly when the situation demanded like that and he had to be patient to show his greatness on these tough situation

You please check the statistics. He scored quick fire 93 against South Africa in Scotland. ( After that we are shouting saying Sachin is back to form ). But he is not able to score quickly after that match. He scored 79 runs in 120 balls ( He played till 42nd over ) Can you tell any one international opening batsman who played till 42nd over and not scored century. He is really playing very slow these days. But atleast he is very consistent compared to other 2 senior batsmen so I support him.

Your comment is laughable. Remember, Dravid has already played more than 330 on days matches, has scored more than 10,000 runs, batting at no.4 to 7 (unlike Tendulkar and Ganguly who will only bat at the top of the order for personal glory)and has an average only slightly inferior to that of Ganguly. If you apply the same yardstick, Ganguly is not a match winner in any form of game currently (earlier he was a match winner in one dayers when playing against Holland, Namibia, Kenya etc.). So, it is Ganguly who should be dropped first and not Dravid. Come one, accept Vengsarkar has erred in his judgement because of personal reasons and has got nothing to do with Dravid's game.If you really want youngsters to play for India, drop all three seniors instead of targeting only Dravid.

I have consistently seen in this forum that Dravid fans come and spread false and concocted stats and info particularly that Ganguly scores all the runs against minnows and hence his 42 average and 11000 runs. Please see the stats below for performance only against Aus,Eng,S.Africa,W.Indies, Srilanka,Pakistan & New Zealand.
Tendulkar-342matches -11705 runs - 34.22 Average
Ganguly-242 matches -8380 runs -34.62 Average
Dravid-273 matches- 8932 runs - 32.71 Average

This clearly shows that Dravid has benifitted the most from the minnows and to add to that his average against ausssies is just 24 , and sachin is 45.

Good one Sameer! After the same Parthiv was given chances earlier. But he failed.Anyway these days he's playing much better cricket off late.
As far as keeping is concerned,Karthik is better than both of them.Parthiv has improved a lot,but sadly MSD stands third.Remember how many chances he missed in England alone. It was after he was made captain, that he has improved on his keeping.Still hes not the best as far as keeping is concerned. But sadly the other two might not get their due sinceMSD is the captain now.
Suresh Raina, considering his current is truly a class act!

Dravid is a Liability
by Atal Advani on Oct 30, 2007 01:54 PM  | Hide replies

Why cant we face it ...Dravid is a big big liability in indian cricket ....patil - dravid ia a devoted cricketer ...dravid is a loser all the way just look at his face his body lingo its loser written in bold, all over and all the way...as far as talent goes he is no where near ganguly or sachin...so why is this big deal being made out of dravids obvious exclusion
vengasarkar is absolutely correct in throwing this old dead meat out of the team ...VENGASARKAR is one of the all time greatest batsmen in the world and here also he has made a bold and correct decision

And what is this devoted cricketer and selfless cricketer nonsense this patil is shouting about ...there are 100 million more devoted cricketers in India

so stop this media propaganda of unfair selection ...there is nothing unfair about the selection I think we have chosen the right team

Dear Atal
You are talking purely based on flat wicket's . No one in india can play on a bouncy pitch . I am a huge fan of the Big 3 . All of them , but i seriosly think you dont know a thing about cricket .

No one has the ball's to go out and any no. and face bowlers on pitches that are hard to play . So before u make comment's like the one's u have made think again . And for the record Vengasarkar is not one of the all time greatest .

Check Wisden . You will get your answer .

either you can play or you cant its simple ... there is nothing like a bad or bouncy wicket...and cool down your language

DRAVID
by Shaun Rodrigues on Oct 30, 2007 01:49 PM

If dravid needed some practice why couldn the selectors just ask him to play the challenger series. He would have indeed gained some much needed practice and obviously get his touch back. Why omit a player who has just played for his country and never for himself. And including Sehwag instead of him hahahaha thats a joke now the team has 4 openers. Stupid selectors

Sandeep Patil is right.
by RC on Oct 30, 2007 01:43 PM  | Hide replies

Reading a report stating the arrogance and childishness of Vengsarkar, saying there was no need to inform Dravid about him being dropped just because according to him Dravid did not inform him when he relinquished his captaincy shows that Indian cricket is in immature hands. Vengsarkar should be ashamed of himself. I will not be surprised if it is Ganguly's head to roll next and finally Tendulkar. It is indeed sad to see how senior players who have served Indian cricket selflessly day in and day out are being treated as liabilities now and the most stupid reasons available are being given for their being "rested". Okay drop a player but atleast have the guts to say why we dropped him. Okay 10 matches were given to Dravid and then they dropped him on basis of bad form. But then why do we have different selection criteria for different members? Sehwag before he was thrown out-- how many matches was he given to get back into form? 30 odd matches. Moreover even before the Challenger series got over Sehwag was seen sitting and chatting with Niranjan Shah and Vengsarkar and what was the basis of his selection-- one innings of 75 runs out of 3??? In 2 matches he failed on a flat pitch scoring 5 runs and if he can be out cheaply against players who have not played International cricket and played 15 odd Ranji matches what chance does he have against Akhtar and Asif and Australia??? Its all a conspiracy and I fully agree with Sandeep Patil. Vengi made the Wall to a window. Shame on yo

RE:Sandeep Patil is right.

it was your great rahul dravid who let sehwag play 30 matches after repeated failing and demonstrating some of the worst batting techniques in the world (other teams had a good laugh watching sehwag bat and dravid support sehwag as a great Batsman)...bishen singh bedi is more technically sound in batting than sehwag ...it was your friend dravid who was carrying sehwag like he was a nawab of najafgarh ...wile actualy sehwag is a disgrace from najafgarh...

dravid would not have played ODIs in his life if ganguly had not had mercy for this perpetually depressed looking dravid and force fitted him into the ODI squad as a timepass wicket keeper ...then ganguly gave him a chance to captain the team for one match and dravid goes and declares the Innings when tendulkar is on 199 or something
thank god I dont have to see dravid on my TV for two matches he depresses me...sehwag and Dravid are the face of all things gone wrong in indian cricket......so dont put the blame on the selectors

why only for dravid?
by :- on Oct 30, 2007 01:32 PM  | Hide replies

Why dravid is dropped for 1st two matches. when sachin and sehwag and are in bad form for long time. they were given a lot of chance for 20 to 25 matches. they were not rested. then why for dravid. Vengsarkar playing a double game for south players. Badrinath is also in tremendous form but he is not given a chance to proove it. Why southern players were neglected? Is they playing dirty politics? Vengsarkar should resign.

I think our habitually emotional public and some ex-cricketers who have their own groupism are putting undue pressure on the selection committee. If they have dropped Dravid on the basis of form, they are perfectly right. Let him fight it out and earn his place ahead of Australian tour. Because he had done a gross mistake of taking completely out of form Sehwag to World cup, such a wrong thing should be perpetuated in team selection? Media and people like Siddu using media platfomr should refrain from making it out to be a national diaster. Let the selection panel do its duty. for a change, they have not done such a bad job of selection. Only thing is they should be prepared to apply the rule uniformly to the other seniors as well.
