Hail the new Rahul Dravid!!
by Diesel Man on Oct 30, 2007 06:56 PM  | Hide replies

S Badrinath is now the new Rahul Dravid....has good technique, presents a straight bat, plays well in the V, has great powers of concentration and big appetite for scores and can rotate the strike at will....

On top of that, he is a brilliant fielder and a good offpsin bowler.....

He is already 26, so if he is not given his chances, the selectors will be making another KP Bhaskar from him....KP bhaskar was one of the biggest tragedies of Indian cricket....maybe TN players always miss out...S Ramesh was given a raw deal while a far inferior guy like Wasim Jaffer continues to get an extended run...it is really funny!!

S Badrinath, if he is not given his chances now, would probably sign up for ICL and Indian cricket will be poorer for it!!

Hope all Tamilians in this forum copy paste my message and put it repeatedly in your name in all possible cricket blogs...even if you put your name, i dunno have any problem....just make sure that this message is visible in all blogs...

Thanx.....

I doubted =our young talent be ever get a justice. Why replace Dravid with Sehwag. The same selectors led by Vengserker didn't want Sehwag in the team during WC and they said then Sehwag is in the WC team only because Dravid fought for him. What Sehwag has done since WC that the same selectors brought him back in the team. I really hope Sehwag performs now and justify his selection..

Myths broken
by Arun Mehra on Oct 30, 2007 05:52 PM  | Hide replies

I have consistently seen in this forum that Dravid fans come and spread false and concocted stats and info particularly that Ganguly scores all the runs against minnows and hence his 42 average and 11000 runs. Please see the stats below for performance only against Aus,Eng,S.Africa,W.Indies, Srilanka,Pakistan & New Zealand.
Tendulkar-342matches -11705 runs - 34.22 Average
Ganguly-242 matches -8380 runs -34.62 Average
Dravid-273 matches- 8932 runs - 32.71 Average

This clearly shows that Dravid has benifitted the most from the minnows and to add to that his average against ausssies is just 24 , which is the lowest amonst the three.

Sanjeev and other Ganguly bashers...please read the stats carefully that prove Ganguly has higher average than Dravid and Tendulkar against major ODI teams( non-minnows)...

Incidentally Ganguly's average against SA is the highest among any Indian...

Mind this before you talk trash about Ganguly in future

Everyone is screaming regarding the omission of rahul dravid Just go through the statistics Sourav Ganguly scored runs in an avg of 26 in 20 ODIs just before his omission in 2005 And Dravid scored at an average of 28 in his last 18 ODIs after world cup If Gangulys omission could be justified then why not Dravids? He deserves it Before terming me a Sourav fan Or a Bengali Just search the stats guru in cricinfo

Rahul Dravid should now concentrate on commentary like Manjrekar!!
by Diesel Man on Oct 30, 2007 03:51 PM  | Hide replies

Rahul Dravid should now concentrate on a career in media or as an expert commentator.....

People like Arun Lal, Siva, Manjrekar have done very well on that front......there is no reason why Dravid cannot do well out there....he is articulate, polished, well read and has a good cricketing knowledge.....
The reason i'am saying this is due to the selectors focus on youth...it is clear that within one series, Dravid will lose his place in the test team too....
You can't keep S Badrinath, Raina out for too long....
India is brimming with talent and someone like Rahul Dravid cannot be a permament no.3 for India......
It is high time S Badrinath is groomed to take up that pivotal no.3 position in tests and guide India's fortunes from that position for over a decade....Badri being 26, has 6 to 8 good years left in him....it is best he is blooded right now.....rather than wait until he enters his late 20s!!

What is this madness with youth for the sake of youth. WE have see how the youth have failed to show consistency like Dravid. The world champs Australia has most of the players above 33. They all perform, there's no talk of youth. Stupid call center crowd.

Dravid was not 'Groomed' to take No 3. He came and "CLAIMED" it.
Sachin and Sourav were not groomed either. Sachin was thrown in front of Imran, Waqar, Qadir & company at the age of 15.
Sourav was inducted in England where the ball moves even after the tour is over.

None of these three were groomed. For that matter neither was Azhar ( came in and slammed 3 centuries ) or Veeru or Kumble. The list is endless over the years.

Please stop begging on behlaf of youngsters. I am 100% sure that they won't like it either. If they have it in them they will stomp in. What is necessary is to provide them the facilities to do so by looking after them financially.

What is laos necessary is to demand that India with such population numbers play at least 5 Test sides. I am sure that a South or North or West or Central or East zone team can beat Bangladesh and Zimababwe who are test teams. BCCI should arrange such matches, let the Zones prove themselves and then claim with ICC for 5 Test/ODI & T20 Teams. Why not?

Non Inclusion of Rahul should not be criticised
by Ashish Kumar on Oct 30, 2007 03:44 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni is given captainship after sudden resignation by dravid. had dravid given prior information to board that he planned to leave and some successor should be worked out? what selflessness was it? so u can not sing all the time that he is selfless, he is selfless........ as far as selection is concern, if going by purely performance dravid is appearing just far from his average forget the best. giving rest in 2 ODIs will definitely provide him some retrospection and he will rise to his average and then his best also. i don't see this much hue and cry of the situation. few days back all of us were looking for the heads of seniors. today worst performer out of big names was rested and we are again shouting! pity on us.
As far as so called CRICKET EXPERTS on T.V., one can easily observe that they don't say any thing new or innovative. All that they speak on TV are just what media wants to convey. if u c Madanlal,Patil,Ashok Malhotra etc speaking he will always comment what anchor wants to come from their mouth. watch Sidhu speaking, he will say what he thinks and will never buy an answer from the anchors. So don't listen to these experts as speaking for controversy is a good idea to be in limelight.

Stupid get your facts straight. Dravid, Sanchin and Saurav had announced that they will not play T20 world cup well in advance. Obviously someone was going to be selected as captain for T20.

Dravid
by amit singh on Oct 30, 2007 03:31 PM  | Hide replies

Dravid batting in so many positions could be related to his very slow adaptation to the needs of the modern one-day game. He'd have obviously got sent in fairly low down the order if the top order had fired and the need was for the runrate to be maintained. It wasn't until the 1998/99 tour of New Zealand, and the 1999 World Cup, that he actually demonstrated that he had the ability to bat according to the situation in one-day cricket, although I never ever doubted his ability to come good. The second crisis would have been around 2001/2002 when the influx of the likes of Sehwag, Yuvraj and Kaif meant that Dravid no longer could take his place for granted. In a side which had explosive batsmen, he needed to reinvent himself. Coincidentally, India's wicket-keeping experiments had failed, and he grabbed the opportunity to reinvent himself as a wicket-keeper batsman. It was also around this time that he started moving around (or was made to) in the batting order. He combined beautifully with the stroke players in the side and thus made himself invaluable. Every now and then of course, he would surprise us, with a strike rate of over 200

Just remember who took the onus of keeping dravid in the team in spite of competition from younger lot by providing an opportunity of keeping the wicket to be in the team. Right!!!!!! it was Ganguly. and I am not not not a Ganguly FAN.

Two of my most fav batsman
by amit singh on Oct 30, 2007 03:29 PM  | Hide replies

I wrote a couple of months ago, after Ponting got two centuries in his 100th test about how similar the numbers for him, Dravid and Kallis were.
Specifically considering just Ponting and Dravid, since they're among my two favourite batsmen, Ponting has played 100 tests, 166 innings, 23 not outs, 8253 runs, a highest of 257 and a batting average of 57.71. Dravid has played 98 tests, 165 innings, 20 not outs, 8355 runs, a highest of 270 and a batting average of 57.62.
I just chanced to see Ponting's and Dravid's numbers in one-dayers and they were strikingly similar.
Ricky Ponting has played 248 one-dayers, 242 innings, been not out 29 times, scored 9020 runs with a highest score of 145, a batting average of 42.3 and a strike rate of 78.7
Rahul Dravid has played in 280 one-dayers, 259 innings, 34 not outs, 9048 runs with a highest score of 153, a batting average of 40.2 and a strike rate of 70.27.
To me, while Ponting is a far more destructive one-day player, Dravid is a more "complete" one. Dravid has, in the last 4-5 years, showed a wonderful ability to bat at just about any position and deliver the goods. Ponting, on the other hand, is essentially a #3. Nearly 90% of Ponting's one-day innings are at #3. Dravid, on the other hand, has batted extremely uccessfully at #3 (35% of his innings), #4 (33%) and #5 (22%). Ponting's stability at #3 is a result of him never facing a crisis about his place in the side. So he was able to establish himself for good at that position.

patil, sanjay is right
by nishant kumar on Oct 30, 2007 03:19 PM

I think what patil said was correct,Dravid could have been capatain for one more year and come at no 3 poaiton and make his 50 or 100 and show his form (like what great Tendulkar and Ganguly does). It is not the question of who is in the team and how many runs he has behind him. It is the attitude in the best intrest of the team. As Sanjay Manjreaker mentioned Dravid is the most selfless person of the team in the last decade others or definetley more selfish. Most importantly the common Indian man and selectors still does not understand how to judge a player best example for it is the recent series of Australia where our opening gaints could not take a single when the ball was past 30 yard circle and forget aboutthe doubles ( you should be watching the replays of these matches) ganguly and tendlkar costed at least 20-30 runs because of their lack of running between the wickets (this happened in Engalnd too) and these people passed the fitness test ahead of Dravid.
