brother John,
As long as mumbaians are there in board(gavaskar , sastri, vengsarkar, lele and other bcci team except venkataragavan who does not have much powers) there is no chance for Kapil and Mohinder as we are all right from 80s, these bombaians formed a group against non-mumbains. why not give mohinder a chance, why different names are coming..

Brother Ramarao,
Why are you bringing regionalism? Kapil was a coach of India Team and he failed miserably. So it's not a fault of Mumbaians if they are talented. Nobody has formed any groups against anyone.

Indian cricket has been corrupted by bengalis, Maharashtrians and the North Indians. Only south Indians play with commitment and for the honour of country and the team

You should be banned Banned for making such comments. South Indians are selfish out and out. Rahul Dravid is the great example, Excepting Vishy, who was/is clear and perfect gentleman.

For his batting acumen, Vishy should be made batting coach of Team India forever!

South Indians play with commitment!! You are out of your mind. We have one pathetic captain called Rahul Dravid. Then there were other cricketers like Tinu, Venkatesh Prasad, Dodda Ganesh, Sadagoppan Ramesh..... The list can go on and on.. These guys didn't know how to hold bat or ball as well. Huh!!!

its very much important, who knows Chapel might have subverted the Indian cause for the sake his. he is a stauch supporter of Australian cricket. Don't forget at that time India was a potential team that can beat Australia, look what had happened, its in shambles now.

i also think that Chappell could have handled the situation better but wont blame him for the entire fiasco. if chappell wanted non performing assets like Sachin out of the team, the selectors and the board should have heeded to his demands long before the world cup. this would have sent a clear message to all the players. it is also worth noting that India were still a very good team in test under chappell.

coldkiller, I agree. I think Chappell wanted the best for our team but could have used a bit more tact.

India did well in Australia because 2 of our top batsmen (Dravid & Laxman) were in amazing form. Tendulkar & Ganguly didn't have the smoothest ride but did well when it really mattered. In addition, Zaheer, Agarkar & Pathan controlled lateral movement enough to use it to their advantage.

My point? We did well because the players worked as a unit and did well as a result. And when they did well, it was easier for them to work as a unit. Wright surely contributed but not as much as Murty seems to suggest.

Why does everybody discuss the nationality of the coach. Why cant they just treat the potential coach as an individual and discuss his capabilities!! If they want an Indian coach why dont they name one and debate his competencies

Very valid questions, Ramakrishnan. I definitely think people should discuss candidates and not nationalities.

If the players introspect themselves then there is no need for a person to coach.

Yes Kapil should talk to the board and not the media.. but your comment that India won the WC by luck is stupid..India earned their victory..luck can favour you in one game and not through to the finals.. WI beating India 9 out of 10 times might be true.. but the one victory that India secured when it mattered got us the cup..give credit to kapil and his guys..dont let your personal dislike for Kapil take away the credit from this great cricketeer

India won the 1983 won the world cup by pure luck. There was no strategy even if today you ask kapil and his team mates what thier strategy was they will not be able to give a convincing answer , thier main strategy might have been to depend on god for miracles to happen. Without doubt 1983 world cup win is one of the biigest flukes cricketing history has seen.

Hi OM,
I do not agree on this.
In fact 1983 was the last world cup when the matches were played on even grounds with consistent umpiring and great challenges from bowling and batting.
From then onwards, the hosts tailored the pitches for their favor, lot of stupid rules especially, DL being the most stupid causing good teams go out of competition. 1992 saw pakistan which was almost out of world cup winning the cup, 1996 we saw Srilanka entering with 2 wins without even playing WI and Australia and winning the cup. 1999 we saw some smells of match fixing when Australia entered the finals by Gibb's dropped catch. the rules of knockout and carry forward of points made India exit due to the loss against Zimbabwe and we saw teams like Zimbabwe going forward too far without any merit. 2003 India entered the finals with sheer luck beating easy teams except England. We saw Kenya entering Semifinals. Most of these events were due to rules that were favoring lot of luck rather than anything. A slip against a weak team like Zimbabwe, Bangladesh started costing a lot these days than in pre-1987 world cups.
India was the only the then recent team which could beat WI in WI before the world cup.

Coming to Kapil's capabilities as Captain, I agree that he didnt have strategy. He led the team purely on his leadership, his own performance and above all the belief of winning which was never there under the captaincy of Gavaskar and Venkat Raghavan.
I also agree on what Kapil says about

exactly OM. it was pure fluke and sheer luck. This can be validte by india's WHITEWASH in one-dayers and test matches in HOME series against West Indies just after the 1983 WC! Those who beleive TEAM INDIA has guts and pure talent are biggest jokers and fool on this planet!

Why should indian senior be a coach??
by M.Naveen Kumar on Jun 04, 2007 02:49 PM

No senior player has supported the team during their disastrous world cup feat. Every one started balmming players.

Yes , All the players are responsible for india's world cup loss. But it is a part of the game. World cup can be won only by one team and all other 15 teams have failed.

Then do they mean all the losing teams should retire and give way to youngsters?

How can Indian seniors who can not even understand these basics coach india?? In that case we should have a new team of 11 youngsters for each game we loose.

Then every indian will one day get an opportunity....Wow that seems to be a great idea..then every one can earn money by advertising..... let indian senior coach our team.

Kapil's appeal
by Sreenath Reddy on Jun 04, 2007 01:48 PM  | Hide replies

I think there is one positive point in what Kapil says. "How can players recommand Whatemore?"
How can they recommand? really.. have they got any expirience working with him? The teams like Srilanka and Bangladesh which he coached and made them better teams. But what is the state of Bangladesh or Srilankan Cricket when he took over those countries coaching. They were rock bottom.... There is nothing both the countries going to loose if His tactics going to fail.
What I want to tell is.. "THE RISK WAS VERY LESS WHEN HE COACHED BOTH COUNTRIES"

If Bangladesh loose to India in world cup, nobody remembers.. BUt India loosing to Bangladesh.. ITS A GR8 WORK.

So he coached hte teams who are nothing loose more. Srilanka Worldcup trumph was a great achivement.. I donot deny that.. but if that world cup , somebody else wins.. do Srilankans fire their cricketers? does anything changes so dramatically in Srilankan cricket board? Does anybody would say.. because of the coach.. Srilanka lost.. but players are good..

NO.

That means.. his expertise in coaching is good.. but is it really suitable or not for India is important.

I feel Kapil Dev had very strong point. He is the thinking cricketer.

Sreenath
