Kumble is Backbone of indian team
by Virendra Kumar on Feb 13, 2007 07:27 PM  | Hide replies

As per my openion Kumble is one of the best Player against Srilanka , his main attacking against Sanath jaisurya, so kumble should be Play in 3 rd One day.

Kumble has been a Phenomenal Failure against Sri Lanka. His strike rate, average and all parameters suffer against Lankans. He is a great bowler no doubt, but has been below par against the Islanders in ODIs. Sanath Jayasuriya has been the main reason for Kumble's woes.
India's best bowler against Sri Lanka is Ajith Agarkar. He was instrumental in bottling up Sanath when they came here last time and that was partly responsible for the 6-1 win.
Go back to record books if you don't believe what I have written here. You can refer to Player Statistics on www.indiatimes.com on their Cricket page

Lame horses never win the RACE!!!
by Vimalesh singh on Feb 13, 2007 06:59 PM

Dear friends!! i think the selecters has done a blunder by picking up 2 ingured players(yuvi and irfan). We all know "langade Ghodon se race kabhi nahi jiti jati hai." We are all talking about Sehwag but i am not against him because "auron ne bhi koi bahut bada teer nahi mara hai." but atleast he is absolutely fit to play but imagin if Yuvi and Pathan couldn't recoverd on time our world cup dream will end before starting because indian team will be left with only 13 fit players. We should not forget the instance happend in South Africa when Dravid picked injured Munaf instead of any fit bowler and we lost the glourious chance of wining a TEST series in South Africa. O God!! How many times we will repeat our mistakes AGAIN!! AND AGAIN!!!! AND AGAIN!!!

i thought that this team has been distrubed by the Guru Greg. what will be the order of the batsmen, we or noone can tell it. Not any a single player can told that he is fit for his position.

Poor Kaif !
by Tariq Zishaan on Feb 13, 2007 06:32 PM  | Hide replies

I dont understand why Kaif is not given a chance in the World Cup squad. How can one forget that Kaif was the top scorer in the series when India last went to West Indies. He is droped for giving poor performence in SA where every Indian batsman suffered for the 4-0 defeat agaisnt SA.

it is really ridiculous approach from the Indian selectors.

Poor Kaif !

Amod, grow up as religion has nothing to do with Kaif since Zaheer and Irfan have been selected too. It is just that Kaif has not been able to win the confidence of his captain/selctors for some reason or the other. But I definitely believe that Kaif should have been chosen as he is a team man and can deliver the goods as proved in the past.

Mr.Abdulla,Thanks for your valuable comments against amod's bullsheet comments.Kaif is really a teamman & a goodfielder also.He is capable of savings 30-40 runs on his own position. But unfortunately the definition of 1 da matches has been changed a lot.Now it needs 2 in 1 perfrmance from the players.Kaif;s batting is notup 2 the mark.I feel really pity for him.

Sorry guys, could not think of any other reason, Kaif is teamman to the core, extremely selfless player(has sacrificed his wicket in a runout situation with Dravid once, Tendulkar twice if i'am not mistaken), is brilliant between wickets, is one of the best fielders in the world and yet is out.
Maybe he just does not lobby well or does not have friends in high places like Sehwag.
Whatever it is, India will be poorer due to his absence.

Kaif was a Top scorer in Windies ODIs, but at an enormous cost for the team.
His crawling knocks actually helped the opponents.
He has played mostly self-serving Cricket over the past 18 months.
He does not deserve a place in the Team.
This is why he is not in the team.

atleast Kaif is better than some of the other players chosen in the team for worldcup. And if anybody understands cricket, his slow runrate is bcoz of the fact that he had to come to bat when India were 4 or 5 wickets down & he had to rebuild the innings...atleast he used to stand in there & fight & not like Sehwag who throws away his wicket...

ability of batsman to score at good runrate even if 4 or 5 wickets down is match winner like Dhoni... kaif is not and has poor average...

Thanks, As u r very optimistic. anyway there is a problem... We've got Struggling Batsman (Struggling with there injuries), We have got more than 1/2 dozen bowlers.. None in Good Form. And Fielders!, Just Only One Injured Yuvaraj (Kaif & Raina cannot stop the ball from india.). And Also we've Most Awaited.. One Hard hitter....who hardly hits ball (These months.). Anyway...HAPPY JOURNEY TO INDIAN TEAM.

Mr.Deepak you sound too pessimistic!! We have Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly back in action.Regefr to theie last 5 ODI stats. Similarly Zaheer, pathan & gang are back in action. Regarding fielders, do you only concentrate on point, cover-point or cover fielder? Tommorow see Robin uttapa, Karthik in action, also don't forget about Sehwag's fielding, Dravid in Slips.
Finally about hard hitting, almost everyone in India's batting line-up till number 7 is a hard hitter, but it again depends on the situation at that point of an inning.
So instead of being sarcastic, try to boost TEAM INDIA

Don't forget about one poor little Agarkar. He happens to be our best out fielder. He has run out more batsmen on his followthrough than any other bowler.
Recently I read a statistic showing Bowlers who have fielded on their followthrough and created run outs. It seems Agarkar has done that 6 times in his career of 178 matches.
None of the other bowlers have done it more than 3 times.
And he is the safest catcher in the deep and has pin point accurate throws. So Indian fielding is not as bad as some of us are making it out to be.
Munaf Patel, Harbhajan and Kumble are weak links. Ganguly Mark-3 is much more improved fielder than he was before he was dropped.
So if we are able to field a fit team, then Bhajji and Munaf are the only weak links. Because Kumble is unlikely to play many matches.

Sehwags capability???? I have been hearing this for long but this capability is of no use if it doesnt get converted into performances. He has been given far too many chances to prove himself & still he is not ready to grab the opportunity. Why not give similar chances to Kaif too??? He is a good cricketer & gives more than 100% always...& his record is not that bad as compared to that of Sehwags.

Kkumble never needs anybody's support to be in the team. He is a class match winner and he has proven himself for more than a decade. He is the BEST Bowler India has ever produced. It is a shame that some still doubt his abilities after 1000 first class wickets. Kumble is as aggressive, if not more, than most of the aggressive cricketers in the world. Kumble was kept out of the ODI team for some time by non-cricketing reasons. It is a pity that India still doesn't have any body to step into Kumble's shoes. Common guys, don;'t be cynical all the time. Unfortunately many of our cricket loving public still go by what television debates speak out.
