Badani, Balaji, Murali Kartik,
by Mauruthi on Feb 14, 2007 03:48 AM  | Hide replies

It is very bad selection by dilip vensirgar.

Badani average (34)
better than VVS(29),
Kaif(32),
Sehwag(30),
Gambhir(25),
Dinesh Mongia (26),
Raina (26),

same as Uttapha and Yuvraj

Check from CricInfo.com

I dont know why everyone other than Badani are getting chance. Selection Joker playing clown with good players.

Murali Kartik won test match against aus: only genuine leg spiiner: but not in team

And Balaji?

its pathetic selection... i hate this... the STATS speak for themselves...

It is higher than Kaif, Sehwag, Gambhir, Dinesh Mongia, Raina

this means that eventhough he has played well, he is out of the team

Hope yuvraj finds that superior form he struck last year. I still remember the way he carted English bowlers all over. Hope he comes back with a bang. If Yuvi and Pathan strike form i am willing to bet this team to go all the way upto semi finals.

Yuvraj Singh is most hyped batsman in India team... pathetic average of 34 for so much hype... he has let down India most of occasions

consider Michael Clarke, Hussey with averages of 69 and 48...

Being realistic aussies are a better team and indian team cant be compared to the australian team but like sengupta said .. yuvi and pathan need to kick for india to perform.. we r not talkin abt winning the cup we r talking abt putting up a good show and retaining some sort of respect from the tournament.. but u mustn't forget at the end of the day its a game where all 11 have to contribute one way or another and once in the semi's its a new tournament all together! u never know who plays better on a given day ( i am aware australians are more consistent than us but i will have to disagree with ur so called "law of averages")

Decisions have been made, relax and watch the game
by keith pavlak on Feb 14, 2007 02:00 AM  | Hide replies

Iam surprised how everyone of us tend to bad mouth our captains, selectors, coaches, former captains, best batsmen, bowlers and other players at the drop of a hat. All of us, yours truly included believe the selectors, coach and the captain made a mistake by selecting the team that has been selected and somehow if they had selected what you and I have selected it would be a totally different ball game !! Relax folks..the decision has been made, all factors have been considered. Now like it or not we need to live with it. Relax, give your team a chance. Dont stomp on it with shouts of failure even before the tournament has started. I remember the same thing repeating itself during the last world cup when people were cussing out Ganguly, Kaif, Yuvi and everyone including tendulkar and resorted to throwing stones at Kaif's home and burning Ganguly's effigies. We need to support our team instead of constantly saying they are failures. It is a Game, has been a Game and shall remain a game. We need to treat it as such. We curse Sehwag and will be the first to applaud if he cracks Brett Lee or Shoiab Akhtar for a six. Stop putting so much pressure on our own boys. They are trying their best too. Please try to put yourself in their seats. No one wants to lose. Please remember they are under far more stress and pressure than any of us to perform. Support India, for good or worse, this is our team. These are our players. No point comparing your kids with your neighbours.

Strategy for World cup win
by AMOD KARNIK on Feb 14, 2007 12:55 AM  | Hide replies

Any strategy should first be formulated on understanding of opponents.
Our main threat in the first round is Sri Lanka, Bermuda and Bangladesh are no threat.
Even if we come second it does not affect us as there is no carry forward into the super eight.
Thus the Sri Lanka match will only be of academic interest.
In the super eight, we would be facing Australia, SA, Pak, New Zealand, England and West Indies
We have to win four out of the six to be sure of the semis.
Get the team composition right!
1) Ganguly opens with Sehwag, the right-left combo can wreak havoc with line and length of bowlers.
2) Dravid bats at 3, and plays the sheet anchor role and takes minimal risks. If an early wicket falls, promote Dhoni so that the run-rate does not fall too much.
3) Tendulkar at 4, Yuvraj at 5 and Karthick at 6 play aggressively. All three are brillaint between wickets so that should help India
4) Dhoni bats with the tail and uses the small grounds in WI to push the scoring rate.
5) In Bowling, give the new ball to agarkar and Sreesanth and bring Zaheer as first change. do not bring Kumble until the power plays are over and bowl him conitnuously for ten overs.
All the best and win the trophy!!

To Dravid and co
by on Feb 13, 2007 11:42 PM  | Hide replies

First for one,
Guys don't use this site for bashing each other up. The Ganguly pro's and dravid pro's and bring regional flavours into this. It is really sickening.

Second I would not appreciate infact strongly oppose my country being represented by a board " BCCI " which claims to be a private borad and has nothing to do with the nation. Atleast an apology is due.

Hey Dravid! that was not captain talk about " seven players in the team". man if you select the remaining players without faith, get out . Give the reigns on to a man who believes in the team he leads.

Have you really started preparing for the world cup. Then show it in these matches.

Put your plans to play.

1. Ask Robin Uthappa that his 'hit the way into the team strategy worked' . Use the opourtunity( next two matches) now to play more responsible longer innings, ofcourse not in any way less dynamic.

Le every batsmen realize( especially that the top order batsmen ) that if he is out at any stage of the game, the probablity that his team loses is very high. There is only one other batsmen he can rely on to finish the game , the one at the other end and not the great batmen in the dressing rooms not even the great Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly and Sehwag not necessarily in that order.

now that the team is selected an the grounds(playing conditions) and opposition known. What plans are made for each match.

1. Which batsmen will face the task and what are the plans for the whole 50 overs. which bowler will be seen of and what scoring rate for each part of the game. I will that the strategy be set for each period of the game so that if the plans 'come short' for one period, it does not affect the whole game. Of course a second back up plan is necessary.

For the bowlers let them plan to decimate teams within a set target 200 runs or less and try to keep that up inspite of the set traget even if more or more realistically a reduced target based on the real score psooible. For example 245 common score in a ground the batmen has to put in 10% more ( all 11) and the bowling team ( all 11) have to put in more. So realistically a 20% margin is necessary in each win.

Now that the opposition is known the batsmen should be studied in detail and a strike bowler set against them, or at a maximum two and then other bowlers set for back ups. Infact plans have to made against aggressive batting and defensive batting. Often when plans are made to tie the batmen down the offchange bowlers- tendulkar , ganguly, sehwag or yuvraj should be brought in. Infact Dhoni can also be given a role at the long shot( surprise change !). Man it is very neccessary to decimate the opposition at the first chance you get . It will be half game won against the next opposition.

And the celebrations that go with a win. Goo! but also reconsider the negative aspects and do encourage the positive aspects even in losses.

And man INDIA is a passionate country. Bring the passion into each defeat and each win and carry it out in the next outing .
YOU JUST NEED TO DECIMATE THE OPPOSITION.
Come on "TEAM INDIA" or should I say " Team BCCI" you can do it this time! you have 15 players that can do it any time.

Sammy

I suggest u to understand the things before commenting on it.

Your comments:

"Hey Dravid! that was not captain talk about " seven players in the team". man if you select the remaining players without faith, get out . Give the reigns on to a man who believes in the team he leads."

did u hear wat dravid said. he said if at the end of the world cup, we are in a position to say that 5-6 players had a good WC, we must have done well. it means obviously all 11 cannot have great world cup, but if 5-6 players (any 5-6 not any specific ones) do well that will be decent enough. where is the question of faith in some and no faith in others. it just means we need any 5-6 players to be on top of their game to do well in WC.

its surprising how we can pass on stupid comments on them without even understanding wat they said.

understand one thing... watever we want, they want it more than us. trust them... n wish them luck... all the best

I am very much upset on the indian selectors for nt giving the v.v.s the chance ,why they selcted yuvi if he is hurt, read my lips he will be biggest failure in world cup ,there no reason for second wicket keeper if you already have dravid and uthappa who can do the keeping for you ,poor judgement on the part of selectors we need strong batting line up not .yuvi and karthik inclusinon is waste of time watching them .dravid should have back v.v.s laxman inclusion.our slectors bunch of clowns for overlooking laxman .he does not have that bad record of onedays.well i am upset i like to see him there 07 wcup.i want to tell if india wants to win 2007 or 2011 or 2015 only experience players can make them win.

Dravid is a captain. Nowadays he drops catches. How can he keep? Uthappa is not even keeping for his state. How are you going to expect him to keep for i nternational side. Picking Laxman is like going on a suicide mission. This team is just fine. All they have to do is play as well as they can.

AS a captain dravid odi batting average is better than as batsman. He is highest catch taker in both forms of game
ODI record: Matches: 308, 285 innings, Runs: 9,978, Highest score: 153, Average: 39.91, 100s: 12, 50s: 76, Overs: 31, Wickets: 4, Average: 42.50, Best bowling: 2/43, Catches: 111

World Cup record: Matches: 19, Runs: 779, Average: 64.92, Highest score: 145, 100s: 2, 50s: 5, Catches 17 (15 as wicket-keeper). Stumping: 1
Highest run scorer in 1999 WC 461 runs
Drvid odi batting average in wC is better than ganguly and sachin
the normal average of dravid is only 1 less than ganguly normal odi batting average, and strike rate % different.
