Look at his avg
v Australia 16 28 2 844 144 32.46
v South Africa 14 26 2 736 73 30.66
Which means he can play against zim, bangla n lanka...

also his 21 victories as captain include some 8 -10 against zim and bangla...

in 2001 we won against auss coz of bhajji, laxmn
in 2003 we won against auss coz of weak aus attack

Accept that Dada is a fighter and a inspirational leader -- how many have taken all humilations and come back with their performances doing the talk.
2003 - Dada's century started indian fight and the same has happened this time also - he is playing gr8 shots and will score heavily in remaining series -- only a lion can fight aussies which dada is demonstrating

when india won other players or factor(bhajji and laxman or weak aus attack) worked. But when idia lost its solely due to DADA. Wah kya logic hai.

hey I thought mumbaikars are good, boss, dont see the average, becoz one not out chane the entire equation. The reasons to Respect Saurav Becoz:-
1. Determination.
2. Hit backe the oponent not with the same coin but with a better one - Lords, Steve Wagh waiting etc.
3. developed & identified and backed young talents, supported them and now see them - Yuvraj, Bhajji, Kaif ( may be), Viru ( May be) Parthiv Patel, even Agarkar was really good that time.
4. He bought the best of lots from the team as a captain, remember he won so many matches becoz he could build a team and motivate all.
5. Best of the partnerships came in his time as a captain - Dravid, Sachin, Laxman.
6. India reached finals in the world cup (how many of us thought?).
7. He was the one who started to interact (fight)with the umpires when they were wrong - He officially complained on Steve Bucknor to ICC.
Lets respect the good things, no I am not saying this becoz i am a Bengali, we r all Indians. For your info, I stay very close to his house and we shared the same tution teacher.

Kumble lost first test coz Dada and Sachin scored some(?) runs. Other nine batsmen were good enough to make the test drawn.

Dada to be celebrated ???
by vashist technologies on Dec 28, 2007 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

I really feel should we celebrate Sourav, after going through his statistics...

I think we should have proper statistics compared with world players than only indian left handers in most of the instances..

Again where is consistency ?? I think sourav can play good only once in 3 or 4 years why dont we ask him to sit back in house patiently for 3 years and call him to play only a year in between...

It is good that due to our free press everybody can say something about anything. But it is better if we try to have some knowledge on it, about which we are writing. I am regarding Mr vashist's coment on saurav & on cricket.

I think people like Vashist have proven time and again that you need no knowledge to speak/write about some one whom you have never admired. Thanks Mr. Vashisht for proving how much you know of cricket. One more request friends - it would be great if we dont post any replies to articles that make least sense.

Dada is great
by Raju Banarasi on Dec 27, 2007 06:51 AM  | Hide replies

Dada is great in giving catches at slip while batting, can any one please provide stats that how many time he have give catches at slip, and what was the percentage of this in his total number outs. It will be great if one can provide duration of in years i.e. year of first slip catch to last. I don't want any breakup of first, second or third slip as it all depends on the thickness of edge of bat which ball took and i feel that this is quite difficult to maintain.

Did you ever take bat in your hand?? Seems NOT. Actually we Indians (few like you) are like that. We always used to do criticised other though we are not efficient enough to do so. Because no money required for this. My suggestion for you.....do your job in better way and stop lecture.

Agree... i was not capable to play for India and that is why i am running my 'paan ki dukaan'... some time my customers use to ask me about these kind of stats for example -
- what is the percentage of instances when dada use to catch the boll while fielding?
- how many run he use to give opponents due to his fielding?
- what is total of run outs of dada and what is the count of others due to dada?

and feel shame on my knowledge of cricket... please help me to run my 'paan ki dukaan' and provide me stats ASAP.

Dear Friend Banarasi,
There are many former and current "great" players who have given slip catches in test matches all the time, some get caught, some don't.Infact one of the "great" players in the current team was McGrath's bunny(if you remember)!! Appreciate the greatness, don't try to find faults.

Ponting praises Dada's batting in difficult conditions...hmmm
by Starwar on Dec 26, 2007 08:35 AM  | Hide replies

Aussie captain Ricky Ponting praised Ganguly ...just before the Melbourne test in following manner . He said "Ganguly has made very good hundreds in conditions Indian players are not used to playing in. He is a good player, it is a great milestone."

While Aussie adversaries like Ponting and Steve Waugh can be sporting and praise Dada impartially ..our own countrymen who hate Ganguly due to regional considerations are still abusing him on this board...isnt that a bit strange?

Mr. Manokaran,
at least show some courage 2 praise what is good. The way he came back from adversities, can u come back? definately not. So keep ur bloody mouth shut and see ur own place in this world and then talk. This is why we Indians lag behind in the world. We criticise what is bad with priority but never praise what is good with priority.

Do not use abusive language which is typical of Ganguly's supporters. Ganguly is definately a decent batsman, but it is the way other players who are far better performers are criticised by Ganguly supporters and Ganguly is praised as greatest Indian batsman ahead of others makes some of us write that Ganguly is not that great, there are others too who are better than that. Understand this and please don't use any uncultured words whichare characteristic feature of ganguly supporters.

Actually i am wasting time to give this reply.....becoz for you type of people we dont get proper respect abroad.....people like you, who do not know how to respect own people aand own country, are curse for our india....

and you know that, but not all. Especially some great blind fans of Ganguly who feel ganguly is greatest of all. So let him open one series and then see whether they can get convinced.
Anyway I don't criticise ganguly cricketer, too much because he is a decent performer, but when he talks like I would have scored more hundreds if batter higher up or makes other self boasting comments, it irritates. similary Ganguly's supporters condemning of other players who are better than ganguly and their blaming other players for ganguly's dropping after poor form makes us very sad and creates a hate towards Ganguly.

Rahul has best statistics in test cricket
by Janardhana on Dec 25, 2007 04:00 PM  | Hide replies

Rahul Dravid has best batting statistics among all Indian who played 100 tests. And above that his runs have helped more to the team's cause than anybody else for he is the architect of many away wins for India in last 7-8 years, while others played for themselves in favourable circumstances and also scored their runs against weaker opponents. We should appreciate Gavaskar's records also because he opened the innings and also most his runs came against west Indian fast bowlers. Sachin is third best in test cricket, he is probably best stroke maker India has seen.

2 years back Ganguly was a failure for not 3 series but for 3 years. Now, look how gaguly is performing. So how can you say that Dravid is past tense. Again dravid decided to open for team's sake. Did ganguly or sachin will do the same thing when they are not in form and then they open to accommodate somebody. We saw that 2 years back when both had poor scores and did not want to come out of comfort zone.
