What an absurd drama
by Sandipan Sen on Dec 04, 2007 12:25 PM  | Hide replies

Look at what happens. People like Sharad Pawar, Niranjan Shah, I.S. Brinda or Sasank Manohar - who never played cricket at competitive level -run the Indian cricket administration, and people like Srikkanth, Mohinder amarnath, Kapil Dev or Vengsarkar are repeatedly humiliated. What an absurd drama ....

by santosh kamat on Dec 04, 2007 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

Our Cricket control board is the worst managed organisation in the cricket world ,kick out the politicians dont allow them to get into any organisations like this ,the result would be good then .
Vengasarkar was doing an excellent job , i am sure there will be again an selection of the cricket team coach .

At Last BCCI does something right
by aloha on Dec 04, 2007 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

Better late than never. I am happy that BCCI has decided to act against Vengsarkar, thought it is a bit late. Let us hope the new selector will just select the team and leave the match strategies to be decided by the team. Vengsarkar was interfearing too much into the match strategy which is not the job of the selectors.

I think Vengsarkar's presence in England had to do a lot in Dravid resigning as Captain. As captain he might not have been able to take decisions when Vegsarkar was there. It might be possible that Dravid did not enforce follow on the last test in England because of hima and might be silently carrying all the blame on him. There is something in Dravid's slinece.

May be BCCI's reaction is to that..........who knows.....

What a bunch of .................
by Hariharan Sudhakar on Dec 04, 2007 12:17 PM  | Hide replies

Indian Cricket in general is a free for all nonsense. especially the administration. More than the politics it breeds , the system requires aggressive approach to save grace of Indian Cricket. We require no nonsense people like Mohinder Amarnath / Bishen Bedi Or a Srikkanth to run the show. The more the cricket base shifts from the west of India the better.

Great Vengsarkar.........Innocent,Admirable,Honest,Deserved
by Samrat on Dec 04, 2007 12:10 PM  | Hide replies

Vengsarkar is an honest, innocent, admirable and deserve persanality. He can't stay our dirty polities. We should not forget about the plight of indian cricket before Vengsarkaer. Our team defeated by B'desh and out the W cup.Performance is the key of selection it does not matter senior or junior.Who will perform better,he would play otherwise quit.Mother loves her kids, she can beat. Selectors should request to Vengsarker.I think vengsarkar should be in part of the system beacause he can do better in the system not out the system. Please think Vengy understand dirty mind politics compromise.

100% correct. It is difficult to find replacement of Vengsarkar. He is very honest and well deserved person who is having experience of all kind of cricket.

That was a disgrace to India. If they had done that to anyone from India either you like them or not, I believe the Aussies were wrong.

To remove Vengsarkar as Chairperson of Selection Commitee, BCCI must have lost thir consous, dignity & mind balance. Presently there is no other person like Dilip Vengsarkar as Chairperson.

Re:Silly ego clash
by John Bosco on Dec 04, 2007 12:00 PM  | Hide replies

This is a silly ego clash between Vengsarkar and the BCCI.Vengsarkar as chief selector shd not be writing a column.BCCI shd have informed him so.And BCCI shd have gently laid down the policy that the chief selector shd not be in the dressing room. This is to prevent the chief selector doing back seat driving.Instead the BCCI was ham handed in handing down a new set of guidelines which may be in the Rules and were treated as part of a convention.
Cricket seems to be far away in all this.
The replacement Chandu Borde shd not be touched. He is ancient and does not know the modern game.Gaekwad is a better choice.Nobody else?

Borde is neither so experienced nor so active like Vengsarkar. Vengi is the best selector. You can go by his opinion regarding selection and his action also.
