More importantly, how is it that Kirsten got the job ahead of someone like Martin Crowe. It is very well known that Crowe was one of the shrewdest captains of his time. Gary was only a stop gap captain for a few matches. I guess only the BCCI and the coach finding committee knows the answer.

Its all because of one person who hates the australians so much.

Sunny Gavaskar. Or Sinny Gavaskar ???

Just because he hates them, he didnt even let Dave Whatmore join. Same as Rob Done. Chappel didnt click due to the presence of high profiles in our team like Sachin and Ganguly. Who were unwilling to unlearn and learn a bit again. Remember Michael Clarke, Symonds, Hayden, the Waughs and Langers were all made to unlearn and relearn what they have contributed.

Unfortunately, Dave whatmore, who did a great job with Bangladesh and also Srilanka in taking them through the wc, having worked with the likes of Jayasuriya, Attappattu, Murali and the likes too didnt find a place.

Only because Gavaskar hates the Australians.

Thanks Gavaskar, for having a detrimental influence on the team inspite of your poor acts.

Foreign coaches

At a meeting in Hong Kong, our delegation was making stirring speeches inviting the Chinese to invest in India. They were told of the riches that await them for the early birds. One banker stood up and asked them, if the returns are so great, why not the overseas Indians invest in a big way? "Do they know something which you are not telling us"?

Kirsten should have thought in those lines initially, knowing that none of our greats will ever consider this post despite them selling this offer to him, but finally thought he will be richer at the end of the ordeal.

Anyway, I wish him all the best.

i think BCCI should go for a Foregin seletor as well to get rid of any one questioning them!

Eventually...BCCI (who makes money) and Fans (who pour money into criket) will remain indian and Coach, Seletion, players, tech, boradcast etc will be Videshi !

When News circulated That Kirsten might not take a coaching Job w/o consulting w/ Senior players who had raised some objection, i was like it couldn't be right.... We indians are sometimes fooled by our institutional leadership, and are forced to take in foreign coaches, But GORA knows when not to give away an opportunity like that of India... It is a great opportunity for Kristen to make Mulla out of Indian stupidity. Front of Sachin tandulkar who is Kristen? As i understand it is a coaching position, not a managing position... What we really needed was a bowler... Even wasim Akram could have been plus if available.. i am just saying.... I am not excited taking in foreign coach. Senior players should show him the door...

I don't think coaches are there to necessarily improve individual's performance. They are there to improve the team performance. To put it differently, if an individual needs improvement, you need to send him to a coaching camp where you will have specilized people to help you with. This coach is more for team performance - how you come together as a team. What are the strategies for a team, how much is an optimum practice needed for a team, study video footage of opposing team, identify strengths and weakness of the opposing team and be better prepared, changing batting order for the team depending on the circumstances etc. basically to improve the throughput of the team. I think they are there for things which an individual player cannot do which can be done by a captain and/or coach.

Kirsten playing it smart!
by Onlooker on Dec 05, 2007 06:00 AM

If India loses to Australia, most probly would, it wouldn't go into Kirsten's coach record now. For Indian players who use their brains (Kumble, Karthik etc), foreign coaches would be beneficial. Not like Venketa Prasad who when asked immediately after offered the bowling coach job said that he was not yet told what to do. Most foreign coaches would know what they are there for. It is the new ideas, that is priceless.

Its a shame that we have to turn to people from other test playing countries to fill in the position of coach when we have greats like Mohinder Amarnath who could have been given the high profile job. I hope that this Gary Kirsten appointment does not turn into another saga like the one we had with Greg Chappel.

We need a better bowling coach!

In the list of top 100 one day bowlers here are our ranks:

23 Harbhajan
27 Zaheer
36 Agarkar
40 Irfan
47 Sreesanth

And what can Gary Kirsten contribute to this? ZERO

We need Kapil, Hadlee, Lille, Holding like players to help our bowlers.

Applying your logic, what good would be a Fast bowler coach to a spinner and what good would be a leg spinner coach to an off spinner?
