Tendulkar.

Past performences of a batsman or bowler should never be the criterian for selecting him for a current series. The World Record of 35centuries in Test Cricket has not at all helped Team India whenever a minimum of a century was badly needed from him and instead at Wankhede(his own home ground)all the eleven players could score only just 100 runs and that too wth great diffculty. The Mumbai Test proved,if proof was needed, that there was allround failure at all levels,be it the Captaincy, fielding, Batting and also bowling to certain extent. How is it that all the eleven players could manage this defeat despite all odds against a very depleted, inexperienced English team led by a Stand-in skipper. It is the Selection Committee that has to bear the entire blame for that.Irrespective of the past performences of players,a policy of retirement at age at 31 should be introduced mandatorily. For after all, there are no dearth of talented and young players in our country nor our present day Test Cricketers will be rendered penniless on retiring them at age 31.Such a measure would surely make every test player to justify his selection without resting resting on his laurels as is the case now.

Sachin booers - 100% right !
by SSR on Mar 24, 2006 07:58 PM

Arvind , this is one of the best critiques I've read in the recent past.

I'd add the inconsistenices - failures ? - of Sehwag & VVS too. And, why in the name of God, has Agarkar been selected again !!!!??

The loss in the 3rd Test has, ultimately, very little to do with the decision to bat first as it has to do with the total failure of our "world famous" batting line-up.

signs of things to come!!
by keerthi on Mar 24, 2006 07:46 PM

i completely agree that the media "creates" icons out of cricketers. i mean, really what has been the major achievements of our test team?....i really dont understand y r we rated as the third best team in the icc ratings!!....we r talking abt a team that hasnt won a test series overseas for 20 long years!(pls a win the WI in the forthcoming series or zim do not change things, geoffrey's mum's team can win there)...jokes apart, i think a lot of our cricketers are over-rated....some of those disgusting commentators on television shows keep blabbering abt "the end of australian era n stuff"...now isnt that a joke??...come on guys, which team has a track record even half as good as the aussies for the past decade??...yes, they did lose the final odi to SA...but they came back so strongly in the first test...mcgrath or no mcgrath!!!!....how many teams can do that???...fact is,they r stil the best team in the world by some distance....i wish these people reconsider our record and stop bothering abt other teams...

LAST TEST WITH REVIEW
by Kisalay Basak on Mar 24, 2006 07:07 PM

The Review in total is FANTASTIC in all senses.
We have the habit of making a IDOL out of every good performance one day, but cannot believe or sustain the truth when the image shows its true colour next day. We go on putting all type of excuses on his behalf! Wish GOD give our selectors some good sense to select with open mind. MAY GOD SAVE OUR CRICKET TEAM FROM DIASTER IN NEAR FUTURE!!

real shame
by santos on Mar 24, 2006 07:05 PM

Its a real shame that such a topic is to debated upon.
Well the match was a fiasco and a farce with indian players falling a like a pack of cards,u have to remember
there were five other noble men who had the responsibility of staying in the crease ensuring a draw and maybe possibly a win.And coming to his poor run, everybody does have them in thier career and i am sure sachin would make up for this. And even if he doesn't
one should'nt forget that he is a hero and he should be never belittled.
