Rajnath Singh has a myopic view.
by Milind Joshi on Mar 17, 2006 11:23 PM

Cricketers are much much more than mere entertainers. For that matter, even film stars can be ideals. Its not youth's fault that the politicians are not able to set an example for today's youth. They have no right to complain about this. And also, it depents upon one's perception in what way you can look upto someone. If someone wants to be a cricketer, can he follow Bhagat Singh as an ideal. That statement is itself ridiculous. We can learn several things from many different individuals (be it our freedom fighters, cricketers, CEOs, actors..etc). I think, what Rajnath Singh is worried about it his own popularity.

WHY NOT?
by Sanya on Mar 17, 2006 11:21 PM

Youth of today are evolving into a new generation. Coke, chips, discos. To see one not blubbering about in front of the TV with popcorn by his side and take an interest in sports is quite rare. An idol is usually someone you aspire to become. True, Freedom fighters have given their lives to save a ntions pride and honour, but nowadays with nuclear weaponary \\\"freedom fighters\\\" will be of no use. Besides, Dravid and Ganguly have led \\\"TEAM INDIA\\\" not just any team and there is some honour and pride if not a lot that they uphold too! So i see not reason why we cannot choose someone like them as an idol and atleast WORK towards doing something.

why cricketers can't be role models.I am having dravid as my role model not only for his batting ,his character, achievements can be taken as a example for youth. Many say sachin, rahul as their role models but no one says a politician's name........

DR BANERJEE
Saurav Dravid-Rajnath Singh
by DR BANERJEE on Mar 17, 2006 10:46 PM

It is unfortunate a party of BJP standing should be
headed by a person of Rajnath Singh capability who is
even not adequately advised where to open his lips or not.Yes Bhagat Singh,Khudiram Bose,Netaji,Gandhiji are
national icon becouse through their deed they created
a name for the nation.Sunil Gavaskar,Sachin Tendulkar,
Kapil Dev,Saurav,Ganguly,Rahul Dravid,Milkha Singh,PT
Usha,Anju George,Col Rathore, and so many gave glory
to India through individual and team performance which
won medelion for the country.Only ill informed people
like Rajnath Singh have one eye and that is politics.
Amitav Bachan is a nationa icon.Let Mr Rajnath Singh
win a single glory to the country then he will be any
where near debating who should be national icon.It is
time Mr Vajpai and Arun Jetley take class to educate
BJP leadership on all aspect of national life.DR Homi
Bhava, will remain national icon,so is Lta Mangeskar,
and so many.It so sad to see BJP going down the drain.
What a waste to national aspiration from a party which
was to give stiff opposition or leadership to move the
nation forward.Mr Rajnath Sigh has proved to be worst
than even Mamta Banerjee.Shame BJP.

Cricketers are true role models
by SSuri on Mar 17, 2006 10:46 PM

Crickers or for that matter all athletes are true role models. To be one of the very very few in billion of population and compete with the best in the world takes a lot of dedication and hardwork. Moreover, they represent the country. If one puts in a fraction of that, he/she could achieve a lot of things in life.

I may agree with Rajnath on Film Stars and ofcourse politicians. In my opinion they cannot be role models. Film stars do anything and everything to remain in public eye and so are the politicians.

Much Ado about Nothing!
by Prem Mohanty on Mar 17, 2006 10:37 PM

I guess BJP and especially the President Mr.Rajnath Singh have run out proper ideas to motivate the youth. They have tried their hand at getting the energy levels up by talking on Hindutva and the Hindu ideology , that seems to have backfired.
What is wrong in looking at Dravid and Sourav as ideals, its not just for their cricket that they need to be ideals, but for a lot of other things, such as determination, confidence, patriotism, and even their passion for doing something for the country.

Who is Mr. Rajnath Singh fooling, himself or his baseless ideologies?

I completely agree with Rajnath Singh
by naresh shenoy kotacherry on Mar 17, 2006 10:30 PM

What Rajnath Singhji said is cent percent correct...
Israel is one of the most powerful countries in the world. They didnt have reservations to uplift the country as the way our congress commies are trying to implement reservations to "uplift" the nation...
if congress rules for another 5 years, we will be heading for another partision....
