If any person sticks on to discipline and principles, no matter what his profession and career is, he/she would be exemplary. Its unfortunate to discard the sportsman to be role models. As a big sportsman country, India is backed by lot of sports especially cricket. Its needless to say that millions of people admire cricketers who become pride of the Nation. Youngsters obviosly set these people by example.
Certainly the likes of Dravid, Tendulkar and Kumble have conducted themselves well to be considered role models. The same cannot be said of the likes of Shane Warne, Azharuddin or Ajey Jadeja.
Filmstars and sportspersons work as hard as people working in any other profession. Labelling them as "mere entertainers" is demeaning not only to the people in those professions, but to the entire profession itself. I certainly do not think that working in the "entertainment industry" is any less respectable than working in any other profession.
And talking of Rahul Dravid, he is doing a heck of a better job leading the Indian cricket team than Mr. Rajnath Singh is doing of leading the BJP, which is currently in shambles for all to see. No one can deny that Dravid is a talented, sincere, hard-working, commited and professional cricketer who has always strived for excellence in his profession. These are exactly the kind of qualities any rational person would want to idolize.
I feel they can be a role model. Any person for that matter, who has made a positive contribution to the society in any field can inspire the youth to develop these qualities in themselves.
A good cricketer can be a role model for qualities such as sportsmenship, team work, strategic planning, importance of physical activities, working under stressful situations, hard work and leadership skills.
These qualities are applicable and transferable to many/whichever area you are working in. The idea is trying to learn positive qualities from wherever you can and inculcate them in your life.
People may not try to emulate the profession of their role models. People can be role models for character and other attributes. Yes Cricketers can be role models. From Richards to Waugh to Dravid, they all have suceeded because of different attributes they had. These attributes may be the same for scientists and for freedom fighters and for other great people alike.
This is the true reflection of BJP's leaders mentality. They have nothing to do with the country's well being and pride but they are interested in destabilising the country . These people will appreciate to those who will spread the hatred among the people of India. the person like Dravid and Ganguly has given us many moment to cherish and they are our hero in real sense but it could not be understand by those who believe in divide and rule.
To be frank and blunt I cant understand what he was trying to say. But all I can say is that they are far better role models than the "GREAT" politicians of present India
i think he is correct while the heroines and film indusry have contributed to nothing but vulgarity. RDB is the example movie that should go to oscars representing the youth of india and not duds like paheli History has been forgotten. Children like to talk or write biographies about priyanka chopra & KAreena kapur rather than write on Bhagat Singh For instance, Fancy Dress competition used to have ppl wanting to be freedom fighters..nowadays they want to be the sloppy sourav ganguly. instant fame and quick bucks...ads and promotional media is spoiling the young minds. We have not learnt from the west to 1) Report to work in time 2) while working, thinking and talking about work 3) Their hard work and to uplift the country, removing poverty and keeping it clean Instead the films have promoted 1) how to smooch 2) get pregnant before marraige 3) stab multiple times in the abdoment 4) M-MBBS though comical teaches how to cheat Well we dont have parental guidance laws PG-13 movies...rating etc.. freedom is misused.
And films like HUmTUm getting SK a national award for stripping few times and barring chest...be it hero or heroine. RDB should be the one! Jai Hind
Geoff Boycott has said that nobody dislikes Rahul Dravid. That is the greatest tribute to any human being. Dravid apart from being a great batsman, speaks well and models for socially relevant ads.
Dravid could equally well turn back and tell Rajnath Singh, " Those days people looked up to politicians like Nehru, Rajagopalachari and Sardar Patel. Can they look upto Rajnath Singh?" But he is too nice to do that. That in essence sums up the difference between Dravid and Rajnath Singh
