Ponting or Lara will overtake Sachin
by Ravichandran.b on Jan 13, 2006 03:09 PM

Definitely, with age & form in his side and the no. of Test matches being played by Australia is significantly more than India plays, Sachin's record will be eclipsed by Ponting in just 2 years time. Sachin has not played a match winning innings in Test Cricket for a long long time since the unbeaten 155* against Australia at Chennai and his scoring rate has dropped to abysmal levels. Lara and Ponting at a brisk pace and this is why they are the most feared batsmen when in form. In the last 5 years, Sachin has scored only 11 hundreds against 21 scored by Ponting. I think, instead of chasing records for individual glory, Sachin should score a 100 when the score reads something like 25 for 4 or 50 for 5 while chasing a target of 300+ in the 4th innings of a Test match and that too against either Australia or New Zealand or South Africa in their own soil. Sachin is yet to do this and proof for this, India is yet to win a test match in both New Zealand and South Africa since 1989 (the year Sachin made his debut) and even in the only victory achieved against Australia in Australia, Tendulkar did contribute very little while Dravid alone stood till the last run was scored.

sachin past his prime
by vaka anil kumar on Jan 13, 2006 11:54 AM

with due respect to others comments and ricky's batting abilities----sachin has played the least number of tests in that list of hundreds in the last 5 years, while ponting, etc played more.

so if sachin plays more tests from this year , then it will not be possible to break his records.

sachin should be dropped
by sunil kumar reddy on Jan 13, 2006 12:16 AM

when ganguly has not been given enough chances by chapell then why should sachin get. he should be dropped from the team. coz when compared to other experience players like inzamam and ponting sachin graph looks like deteriorating. its time for sachin to get retired..............

My bet is on Sachin

Its very tempting or easy to pass judgement looking at recent performances. One must remember that most of the people who went on to make records in cricket always had a second wind (stint). Lara, Sunny and Inzy all had 2nd wind. Sachin has yet to find that second wind. When he does he will be in Ponting shoes and then all of you will be switching your opinion. Let's see if that will happen. If that does then he will fulfil the prophecy of Sunny.

Sachin is past his prime.
by Omkar Patki on Jan 12, 2006 09:13 PM

Say the same thing about Brian Lara but not about Sachin. He still has a lot of Cricket left in him. Ricky Ponting may overtake him but what the hell? Allan Border had also overtaken Sunil Gavaskar. That did not make Gavaskar less great. Courtney Walsh's record was broken by Muralitharan and Warne. Walsh and before him Kapil and Hadlee are regarded as the All Time Greats in Cricket. So guys, chill out. Let them make records and break records. Records will be made and broken but the reputation that Sachin has made for himself as one of the All Time Greats of the Sport cannot be eclipsed.

Lara is a far more better player than Sachin.
I can assure you this thing with the help of situations in which he has scored the runs and that too playing with a weak team as what the condition of West Indies can be explained or said about it.

sachin is the best
by Dhruv on Jan 12, 2006 04:36 PM

If by any means this record has to be broken than it has to be sachin and sachin himself..
Ricky ponting is class player but sachin and brian lara and even Inzamam is on the league of their own..
People saying that sachin has past his best should not forget that he had injuries from last 2 yrs...
Also people who says that sachin is playing for himself and ricky for the team should not forget that australia is playing like team...7 out of 11 players perform while india survived in 90's mainly because of sachin....Pick up any away series and u will find that sachin have performed...u cant except one individual player winning whole test or match..its not possible...
In 2004 sachin scored 3 centuries and 2 half from 10 matches while Ponting scored only 1 cent and 5 half from 11 tests...while in 2005 sachin was out for elbow injury...sachin only played 5 test and scored 1 century while ponting played 15 to score 6 cent..
SO those who are saying that sachin has past his best than just wait and watch.

sachin IS god
by nitasha on Jan 12, 2006 10:40 AM

i have never laughed so hard.....ricky ponting and matthew hayden surpassing sachin's records? sachin not being a team player? sachin being past his prime?
its just the nature of the indian fan....tommorow it will be the same for dravid..the insults and the doubt. Just a word of advice...use your brains before casting aspersions on a player with a career spanning 17 years....i challenge any living cricketer to break sachin's record.....his best is yet to come as will be seen in the upcoming world cup...

Remember an old saying If Wishes were horses beggars might ride...

Well Among the current players no one can ever go past Sachin Record of highest centuries... With no more injuries now occur for Tendulkar and better umpiring decisions.. lets see who is the on the top.. and i am sure that the little genius will do his talking with magich wand (bat)to answer his critics as he always does...

Good Luck Sir
