Eclipsing the record
by Rakesh Narayan on Jan 11, 2006 06:04 AM

An important statistic is number of matches played by both of them in this five year period. WIth ricky playing 15 more matches, which on an average should have yeilded 1000 more runs atleats for Sachin, things would seem difficult..

Also its difficult for ponting to do well against spinners esp in subcontinent.

Most Test Centuries
by cusp on Jan 11, 2006 12:22 AM

Yeah we all know that Ricky Ponting is definitely the player who is dictating his terms currently .But we all have witnessed patches where Brian lara and Sachin were behaving the same as Ricky Ponting now. I feel Brian Lara is the best Test Batsman in the current cricket, but Sachin can not be considered an underdog as his past record proves it . So people look out for this great batsman to show you guys his strenth again . You will witness another period where there will be no doubt who will score the most numbers of centuries from the list of current players .

\'Sachin is past his prime\'
by delip viswanandan on Jan 10, 2006 11:40 PM

I would like to convey my gratitude for the cricketing pleasure Sachin has given us and continues to do so and I am proud he is Indian. He has made us us a proud cricketing nation, with his achievements for the country and all the records.

Unfortunately there are a lot of ignorant public and people from the press also who tries to discredit our countries achievers and push them out. This gives these people some sort of sad pleasure because of their own lack of achievements. Just because Sachin started at 16 doesn\'t mean he should retire.
Though Ganguly brought the trouble onto him self by something he initiated, the press and people should lay off him now too.

Sachin is past his prime

Sachin is one of the best cricketer we ever had! But unfortuntely he is not that strong. Somehow the bowlers are able to explore his weak points. He has one too many. Recently I have seen him just falling over (loosing balance) when the ball is hit on his pad making it easy for the umpire to declare him out LBW. Afterall once you are fallen you are OUT. Mr. Sachin please try to be strong and solid. Wish you all the best!

Sachin is not a team player
by chintu on Jan 10, 2006 08:07 PM

Sachin's stats in tests may look good on paper but he has seldom played for India. He is more concerned about setting records. The Indian media with its typical myopia highlights him as India's greatest player when he not even comes close to being the greatest.

Sachin's record.....
by Srinivasrao on Jan 10, 2006 07:52 PM

Sachin in the most perfect batsman in the game of cricket. He has no flaws whatsoever in his game. He only mismanaged his creicket a bit in the last few years or else he would have had more centuries to his credit.

It does not matter if Ponting or Lara overtake him. If they do it then they too deserve it but there cannot be a more truer cricketer cum perfect hmuman being than Sachin. That record cannot be eclipsed.

jaded sachin
by anup on Jan 10, 2006 07:40 PM

I wonder whether the talented youngsters in our team can lift the quality of their game to give sachin a run for his money. sachin has been around far too long and the youngsters should play much better and see to it that sachin has no place in the team. come on guys, show us your true potential and throw out sachin on sheer merit. the media hype over sachin is because the others are not rising in consistency and hefty scores. hoping pakistan will throw up some other heroes who can overshadow sachin and his over hyped image

I think it is not important to have the greatest number of centuries tied to your name. What is more important is how well you play the game and contribute to your team. Sunil Gavaskar had the largest number of centuries against his name until recently, but no expert will rate him higher than Viv Richards, who played in the same era but scored less runs and centuries.

I think Sachin should concentrate on batting his best to win matches for India as well as bring up the youngsters as matchwinners. Ideally Sachin should be the captain of the team now, but due to many reasons it did not happen. We hope that he would give his best till he plays and helps the team with his vast experience. Centuries and runs are just by-products which are not necessarily the final goals to make Sachin the best of his era.

Sachin is still at his very best
by Rishim on Jan 10, 2006 06:50 PM

No one can break Sachin's record. He is the only master piece created by god. I am not saying this, coz i am an indian and in a country like india, Sachin is just after god.

May be Sachin is running out of race compare to players like Pointing and Lara, but what about class, magic that Sachin can produce the technique he has got and the presuure he handles. No other player in this world can even imagine to be at Sachin's place.
The other day I was reading an article in rediff column, and i found that all the top shot brands in today's industry wants to deal with Sachin because they think that Sachin has that much of potential to rock the world. Even World tel is planning to have a 200 crores deal with Sachin. As per my knowledge no company is interested to offer even 50 crores to players like Lara, Ponting and Hayden.

You cannot compare a genius with great.

Rishim
