by Yash Raj Singh on Jan 12, 2006 10:22 AM

Remember an old saying If Wishes were horses beggars might ride...

Well Among the current players no one can ever go past Sachin Record of highest centuries... With no more injuries now occur for Tendulkar and better umpiring decisions.. lets see who is the on the top.. and i am sure that the little genius will do his talking with magich wand (bat)to answer his critics as he always does...

Good Luck Sir

Sachin's form is eternal
by Rajineesh Kumar on Jan 12, 2006 04:35 AM

With all due respect, it would be impossible for any human in any sphere globally to criticize the genius, patience and consistency of Sachin Tendulkar.People speak of his recent form, compare his statistics and say he his past......it is expected. A person who has taken on the battle for 10-12 years ALL ALONE without the much needed support from his teammates at crucial stages. The result - Sachin never wins games for India. It is understandable he is getting old and does not shine as much.It makes me ponder that if we are contemplating about his capability so much, does he not know when to quit.I think Sachin believes he still has 1-2 solid years left in him.All I hope for is he retires with grace and not drag it till the end and be kicked out.
Thanks,
Raj.

Not...Until we see the birth of another SACHIN
by Jayasimhan TR on Jan 12, 2006 12:30 AM

I don think anything on earth would come closer to sachin.....until we see the birth of another genius...For those who see ponting as a looming threat...It's been harldy 2 years since ponting started getting this attention...but TENDULKAR has been in the blood and nerve of every true cricket lover for years and year....Inspite of both being of almost same age....So not until another genius is born..for TENDULKAR is a six sigma event...RARE to RECCUR.....

Its not the record,, its the expectations
by Hiren on Jan 12, 2006 12:01 AM

Everybody knows and there is no secret that Ponting is the best inform player in recent years. But than modern day cricket has become overly aggressive and dominated by batsman on batting pitches. Australia plays almost 12-15 tests a year and any inform player would score 3-5 hudreds compared to an Indian or Pakistani who play 7-8 tests a year and score 2-3 hundreds.. What is the big deal about last five years... Records are only statistics, whereas greatness comes by living upto expectations. Some people write that Sachin should retire. Find a player even close to Laxman's class to replace any batsman in Indian team before asking a Sachin or a Laxman to retire. The point is, a Ponting or Hayden has never carried expectations of a billion people when they played, moreover Ponting hasnt even proved himself all over the world. His most hundreds come at home where he hasnt even scored a fifty in India.. The real class player who competes and I really rate higher than Sachin in tests is Brian Lara....It takes some genius to break the world record of the highest test individual score twice. Certainly even if the record is broken, Sachin remains the greatest among all the current players

One this is a Stupid question, two -Indian fans have a big problem
by Satish on Jan 11, 2006 11:55 PM

I don't know why we get sucked into these inane and dubious questions .Since I've also been sucked into this discussion,my response is "Records are meant to be broken". Now when this will happen and who will do it is another issue which nobody can answer. Sachin has been carrying a lot of injuries for the last 24 to 30months and that has led to his poor performance (based on his own standards and magnificient play). Inspite of his poor form, his average hasn't taken a drastic dip compared to his so called stalwart batsmen. The two series that he has played after his return to active cricket, has proved that he has found his bearings based on his performance against SL (ODI/Tests) and SA. He was in good form even against SA inspite of not scoring big, and mind you, SA was actually the true test for his batting form, with their pace attack.
He will definitely score big in the Pak series with a couple of hundreds that will be instrumental in India winning the series!!!!.
Now about Ricky, he is currently riding the form of his life in his own backyard and in the Ashes series.
I'd be interested to see him face India in India, Pak in Pak and Murali in SL to see if his streak continues.

overhaulin of sachin's record
by Avinash Lath on Jan 11, 2006 09:52 PM

Pointing , Hayden , Lara , Kallis , Dravid all are good players.. they all have the potential to atleast get past 35 hundreds..

But when we considerin overhauling Sachin , the first two might be able to do it.. because they are scoring centuries at a scorching rate.
But apart from all this Sachin still stays a great player and no one can take away from him what he has contributed to indian cricket. Being the backbone for so so long. maybe now he isnt as fluent a scorer as he was a few years ago but he still has a lot of cricket left in him. he still has those wide array of shots up his sleeve.

May be...
by perl57 on Jan 11, 2006 08:24 PM

This is the fourth time, I am trying to post this... but I wanted to write something. Here is something I want to point out:
1)Sachin is 32, but Ricky is no kid. He is 31. Legends fall slowly while good players fall from hero to zero in no time. History has served correctly. Think and tell me, Kapil is a legend, fallen slowly, Steve Waugh is a great player fallen in no time (let us not start a debate that Oz selection was too practical. The way Indians sorted him out in 2003/4 series on Oz tour suggested he was a goner). Similar examples can be many.
2)Sachin until he scored 33 centuries, no one knew, not even him that it would take so many matches to get to 35. What is the gurantee that Ponting cannot go through the same? What is the guarantee that ponting will not get the same stupid umpiring decisions that Sachin got for ever since he started dominating the world.
3)Finally can anyone for sure say "this series, Sachin is a goner"?
Time is the only answer.
If u wanna know what I think of Sachin then: The only man in cricket (bradman included) who had defied the players from same team and opposition, umpires, third umpires, media, to be THE ONE in cricket. A true immortal.

sachin unsurpassable!!!!!
by kartik on Jan 11, 2006 07:20 PM

hey do u realize ur writing about sachin the great?!
he was, is and wil be immortal. ricky and hayden have not faced the best of bowling as sachin did. they din't face mcgrath, warne, lee and they din't score as heavily as sachin against donald, ambrose, walsh, wasim, waqar, imran among others.
he was not at his prime best for few years but now he's ready to go on a long trip. he has already shown his class in the warm-up match.
all u fellows who say his record will be surpassed wait and watch!!
he is unsupassable!

Tendulkar's REcord
by Sandip on Jan 11, 2006 07:12 PM

There are two possibilities: With Tendulkar's record and the form rickey Ponting is having right now, it would easily seem like he's going to blow off tendulkar within the next couple oe years. But reaching a certain milestone is like driving. Just think that Tendulkar and Rickey Ponting are both driving in the same direcion and tendulkar is 10 miles ahead of Ricky Ponting. Ricky Ponting cannot pass and go ahead of Tendulkar by driving 10 miles more in just 10 minutes. It nearly takes an hour for Ricky Ponting to even close to him. Just like that, its in Cricket. Don;t you think Tendulkar is worried about his record? Wont he score centuries more often as Ricky Ponting even though the latter has more potential? but Tendulkar's record wont be eclipsed until 3 to 4 coming years. We need to take Ricky Ponting and Tendulkar's form, the # of matches they both play annually, and the teams they are playing against. Dont forget Hayden too. Ricky has got 21 100s in last 5 years, compared to Hayden's 24 and Tendulkar's 11. Both of this players have high potential of nearing Sachin's Record.
