Why is this nation tolerating this farce called Indian Cricket?
by Santosh Pawar on Sep 28, 2005 09:51 PM

What amazes me is that Indian Cricket has become a

political field with no regards to the sanctity or future of the

game. I don't understand why do we have to see the faces

of senseless morons like Dalmiya, Mahindra etc. in

cricketing fraternity. In the last 5years or so India's Cricket

has only become a marketing showpiece and only Dalmiya

and Co. are leeching to the power and minting money out of

it. The basics of cricket in terms of administration,

improvement of the game, selection procedures (the quota

syndrome) have been thrown out the door and Indian

Cricket is paying a heavy price for that. Just look at the

moronic press conference given by the BCCI president after

the farcical committee-review of the biggest controversy of

Indian Cricket. Would you stand the sight of such idiots

running the reins of the game entire nation loves. Why is

there no accountability in the top ranks running the game

and why is this nation tolerating these asses. I just fail to

understand if we are simply indifferent or plain impotent in

bringing about sweeping changes in the way this game is

being run in the country. Something needs to be done to

make this whole system functional and professional

Bad for Indians
by Nitish on Sep 28, 2005 09:51 PM

The quarrel between Chapell & Dada can be turn out very bad for Indian Cricket team. Young player like Mohammad Kaif has lossed the chance to play the test & to prove himself when he was in a tremendous form.

Agree with the writer

Greg Chappell has been made to eat humble pie in this fiasco and Ganguly has taken away all the points. For his self respect and pride, he should resign as India coach. But then the issue of a lucrative coaching assignment on the block also comes up. It seems practicality has won the day for Chappell and pride and ego have been pushed out of the window. So much for the pride and self respect of an Aussie!!

Indian cricket will surely pay!
by Bharat on Sep 28, 2005 09:11 PM

Yes, Indian cricket will pay.
The article noted that review committee should not have mentioned that Ganguly will remain captain, but should have referred this to the selection committee. I think the point is moot since the main selector was right in the review committee itself -- Mr. Dalmiya. So why refer to the selectors and lengthen the process for no reason?
1. The review committe should have asked *all* members that toured SL and Zim to depose before them so that they get all inputs and then assess the situation.
2. The review committee should have: 3 ex-captains (ideally, people who have no assignmnts with the media - to remove all bias), the board president, head of the selection committee.
3. The deposition should be private till the end of the review period and made completely public in as-is manner later - so all parties know what went on.
It looks like GC was made to understand the political working of the board (elections in 2 months) and selection panel being changed after the elections - ater which he could 'hope' to get the better team and that's why he's stayed on. Maybe the 5 hours were spent in how to write out a compromise? Who knows?

Chappell and Ganguly
by Amit Thard on Sep 28, 2005 09:11 PM

I don't always agree with the writer but i have to say this is a very good article. very accurate and points out all the deficiencies of this committee as well as the board. the only point i disagree on is that chappell should leave. it's not his fault that people resist his honesty. if every honest person leaves then our team is really in trouble. the good thing about this episode is that people now have their eye on proceedings and hopefully this will bring about more transparency. As far as Ganguly is concerned, he may have bought himself some time but he has also brought on more scrutiny on both him and his supporters. I think Ganguly is bound for more failure and will ultimately be sacked. What i am worried about is Harbhajan and Chappell. Bhaji too has bought himself more grace and time from Ganguly, considering his recent performances. i just hope things don't blow up between him and chappell. both are headstrong.

bottom line, Chappell should stay. it is not in his character to run away and i think it's time people like him start cleaning up the team, no matter how tough the challenge is. Ironic that an Australian cares more about the good of Indian cricket than the board.

Arvind is crazy !!!
by YNRao on Sep 28, 2005 08:16 PM

This is a crazy column !!!

First of all
- I do not see any reason why Greg should catch his flight for his native ??
- Hey man.., were you sitting in the meeting alonwith the Review comittee.., you were speaking so bluntly as if you heard everything what they discussed.
- All this issue is just a Hype of media, nothing else.
- First of all, Dont expect everything is fine and welcome when u take up a new job. Greg was just a bit in a hurry to express in his way of handling it. It will take time for him to get into the team slowly !
- These kind of situations do occur while dealing with a kind of job he is in., and he has to try and get into the job slowly.
- Running away is not a solution, he will be rememebered for his Give-up mento if he does so.,
- He must stay back, work out a decent way to stick to the results.
And I am sure things are in place and nothing is wrong in the Team-India except it is a phase to improve.,

Dont put such crazy comments in Public to divert the attention of public dear., Arvind..,

what?
by Shyam on Sep 28, 2005 08:10 PM

dude, I seriously dont understand what you and some others are trying to say..ofcourse lot of people in media wanted to see Ganguly's head chopped but he survived. You have such a hard time believing that Chappell lied but you believe in one instance that Ganguly was liar? I mean comeon that guy produced every single document he can to prove him and morons like you still keep crying. And ofcourse you want Chappell to leave because if he leaves that will give you one more opportunity to give benefit of doubt to chappell and bash Ganguly one more time. Yes, I personally believe Ganguly should be dropped from captaincy based on his performance HOWEVER after what happened in past few days I have doubts about Chappell credentials. A good coach ought to win confidence and backing of his players too, which Chappell has fallen flat on!
