A BIG JOKE - Review committee's decision...
by Aditi on Sep 28, 2005 05:03 PM

Dear Sirs,

We Indians being ardent cricket fans, whichever corner of the world we are settled in, keep an eye on whats happenning..The whole saga of this Coach-captain controversy is simply disgusting. And to top it all is the "Decision" of the BCCI committee.

On reading the two articles "Is Greg Chappel a liar Mr.Mahindra by Prem Panicker" and "Indian cricket will surely pay by Arvind Lavkare" one really feels ashamed over the way the BCCI committee has acted. I for one dont have any grudge against Mr. Ganguly. But feel so sorry for Mr.Greg Chappel who in the best interest of our own country took some bold decisions and what did he get in return? Nothing. Mr.Ganguly has been simply cleared of all the charges against him and it appears as if Mr.Chappel is now standing in the witness box. Shame on you, not only MR. GANGULY but also to the so called, yes I would now say so called greats Mr. Gavaskar, Mr. Shastri and Mr.Venkatraghavan who did not have the guts to object to whatever wrong was going on in the committee meeting.

All this is so very embarassing n shameful. All members of BCCI including 3 greats & especially MR. GANGULY have put us Indians to shame. SHAME SHAME!!

Thnx.

Take the first plane home mate
by jay on Sep 28, 2005 04:52 PM

Yes, Greg, to preserve your and your country's integrity, resign and take the first plane home. As Indians, we are ashamed of our captain and corrupt Board, but are powerless to do anything about it. However, as a patriotic Indian, I will join millions of my countrymen in deploring this terrible state of affairs. We will cheer when our craven captain gets his come-uppance, he won't get battered and bruised because he will feign injury before having to face the Sri Lankan and South African pacemen, and he will quietly disappear into some bolthole in his native state before the tour of Pakistan. Don't stand around and see the sorry spectacle of a conuntry's cricket disintegrating, you have done nothing to deserve it, mate.

Indian Cricket will surely pay
by M V Krishnan on Sep 28, 2005 04:51 PM

The review committee cosisted of three ex-captains of India and they all acted in support of Saurav Ganguly. The other three jokers were the root cause of this sordid episode enacted in front of TV cameras. Though I am not an ardent fan of Rajsingh Dungarpur or Bindra, I do agree the purpose of leaking poor Greg's E-mail was to divert the atention of the people of India from their own clandestine running of the BCCI. Not a single word about Harbhajan's rantings on Greg's dictatorial functioning. This may be his theesra which he had promised to bowl when Gavaskar interviewed him. His non performance in the last two series and his belligerant attitude should be nipped in the bud and he should be told to go back to his hair cutting saloon. Dada was my favourite skipper and now the time has come to ask him to retire in the best interest of Indian cricket. The sooner we get rid of people like Mahindra,Dalmia, and their sycophants from BCCI the better it will be for Team India. A word of caution to the three ex-captains: Please do not indulge in playing games after you have done the nation proud in your playing days. Dont stoop to gain some reflected glory. Jai Hind!

Mr. Lavakere does it again
by Atanu on Sep 28, 2005 04:50 PM

i really can't understand why the author is go against ganguly and so pro everything else.
It was both's fault and this was really the best solution.
And why should Chappel go back home. He was equally to blame. And anyway, no one just leaves a job becaus of 1 minor spat.
If Ganguly need to prove himself in the next few series........so does chappell. He does seem to be a good coach but then we also need results otherwise why did we bother to get a coach from abroad if we intend to have the same results.
Agreed , its ultimately the players who will have to do duty......but its also the coach's job to motivate the players, keep team spirit , etc so that win can be achieved.
And coaches the world over have received the sack if the team does not perform for a long time. It happens in football too ....or any sport.

Its the collective effort of the captain , coach and players.....and thus everyone needs to 'perform'. We can't afford to Pay Chappell for 3 years and have India losing. At the same time , we can't have Ganguly not perform for long. But lets give him some time. And this not the way to treat a one of INdia's greatest players.

Greg should leave indian team
by Ravindra on Sep 28, 2005 04:49 PM

The author is right. Mr. Greg should leave Indian team as soon as possible. He wanted to make indian team like Australian team but thats not possible because india has a lot of 'brilliant' people supporting handicapped Ganguly. In Australia the performance is important but in India most important is whether you have enough number of supporters or not. Mr. Greg please leave indian team. It will save your dignity. Indian team is not worth of your coaching. And the result you will see India wont qualify even quarter finals in next world cup if Ganguly is the capton. Please Mr. Greg We cricket fans respect you a lot and for your self respect and for the protest of injustice please leave this team.

Why should chappel go?
by Prashanth on Sep 28, 2005 04:49 PM

Yes! why should chappel go. The indian cricket team
needs his professional help and that was the reason
for his appointment. If chappel has to go just to
keep his respect then he is no one another than a
typical human being. He has to stand all the politics
of the 'gone to nether world' BCCI, all the politics
of the players. He has to be there to make a
difference. Only then he will gain more respect from
an average indian cricket fan. Dont persuade him to
go. Indian cricket needs him. Its time for our
thoughts to change where we just shout for a while
and then compromise. This is not good for anything.

Sunny and Ravi - Shame on you!
by rinsy ansalam on Sep 28, 2005 04:48 PM

Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri - who has load of criticism for cricketers in their role as commentators - are spineless individuals when they were put into a live situation. Were they there to do what the board wanted?? didnt they have their commentators analaytical skills (which in always on display when they have a mike)to judge on the incident. These are the individuals who talk BIG when they are on the easier side!!! When they had to take the decision, they just played politicians (BCCI men)role! Shame on you!!!
