I completely agree with pradnya and sachidanand is terms of their views toward Saurav. If there is a man who can get the world cup for India in 2007, its Saurav Ganguly. Dont get me wrong, I ain't saying that he is the best player of our side. But undoubtedly, he is the best captain India has ever had; Needless to say, he is the one responsible for getting the team together as a single unit. To remind the critics, beating Pakistan in Pakistan and the Natwest series win are huge accomplishments. And it was all possible because of a strong team effort backed by a good captain.
Not to mention Greg was the one who started the controversy. But we can still forget that and for the betterment of the team, let the coach do his job and let the captain do his. The captain still has the respect of the players and thats what is necesary. He knows his job.
Not to forget, everyone has a rough patch. Its time we support our leader and back him up as he has backed the boys so long. He has already started to recover. Its just a matter of a couple of weeks.
Reacting on this issue would make matters worse. I personally feel, the press should help making it up; but thats too much to expect.
Ganguly should step down, there are no two opinions about it. With players like Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag, Lakshman, Pathan, Kumblay, Harbajan, Kaif etc. any captain can win matches over most of the test playing countries. Just like Greg, even I have a few points against Ganguly.
1.Ganguly has two rules - one for himself and one for others. 2.He does not lead by example. He chickens-out from situations he does not like. It is very easy to provoke him and make a fool out of him. Not a level headed person. 3. He is the worst fielder in Indian Creicket for a long time. 4. Among the front line batsmen in the world, after Inzy, he has the discredit of getting most of his team mates run out.
His only positive is that he is ( or was ?) a good batsman. Without his godfather he wouldn't have lasted this long in Indian cricket.
Ganguly should step down and prove his worth to the team as a player to continue in the team - only as a player ( with his attitude, I doubt).
Regarding Greg, he should leave if he has lost the respect of the players.
Ganguly should accept one thing. That, Team is important than the individual. So ganguly should be away for one or two forthcoming series. And in the mean time make himself mentally and physically fit to lead the Indian team to the next world cup and prove his ability.
Though Ganguli is termed as most successful captain, in most of the matches, the victory came from the outstanding performances of 1-2 players, very few times it looks like whole team is playing. Ganguli should be first selected as batsman if he performs, and then he should be considered for captaincy. There is no place for non-playing captain.
its high time for the board to make greg chappel remember his duty about coaching & leave on the selectors to decide about the captain & ganguly should stay as captain after all the experience he has behind him. he still has lots of cricket left in him
As per chappels statement Ganguly must be removed from Captaincy and even he can be rested dur to his poor form. Its long since Yuvaraj singh & Irfan pathan has shined against good teams. So BCCI must not select a team taking into account when India plays against weaker teams.
