not an embarrassment at all
by ravi kumar manikonda on Sep 25, 2005 11:36 AM

dear sir,

i read the article and felt very diaappointed @ the subjective views smacking misplaced sentiments or opinion. Ganguly was the first captain who has not shown any parochial favouritisms when come to team compositions. gave good chances to talented youngsters whatever place they hail from. remember the days when team is filled with all and sundries from M'mbai when Sachin was ruling the roost.

coming to flaunting his bear chest, that was fitting reply to Flintoff's show-ff of misplaced aggressivenes. the Great Steve Waugh him self paraised Ganguly for making the team India confident and robust and mind he was the guy made waited for Toss by Skipper Ganguly . this is the team built by Ganguly stone by stone.

Give the man some time before dragging the carpet underneeth his feet.

dont live on history!!
by Narasimha on Sep 25, 2005 09:22 AM

I read original article as well as comments by learned readers for and against the article. We Indians have a genetic problem of living on our past glories, rather than realising the present and planning the future. This has been proved beyond doubt by many letters. The basics ofleader-ship is to carry the whole team and 100% personal integrity. The dust of this whole controversy was kicked off by Ganguly first that too when he is badly out of form.
When he is unable to deliver the goods he shud be removed, this holds good in any field. The aim is to make a strong team than to fight over one man's position. It is ridiculous to ask the author to bat and score 10 runs as challenged by one reader. For Ganguly, batting is his profession from which he is making millions ( that is the reason for his present antics) and he is expected to bat well, not the one who raise objection to his poor-form and indiscipline.Do anybody accept inefficiency and indiscipline in his/her own profession?
Life has to be moving not stuck at one Ganguly or one Lalu.

Bovine shit

This is the biggest piece of crap i have ever read.I agree with the fact that he has been doing miserably but i cannot understand on what basis you call him an embarrasment. In fact people who write articles like the one written are an embarrasment.
Ganguly has captained India to few of the most great and memorable victories. Remember the test victory after the follow on. Remember LORD's?
It is all very fine when you are making fun of his batting form after taking up captaincy. As a matter of fact can you tell me how many captains in the history of cricket have batted the same way during captaincy as they have batted when they were not...you can count them on your fingers.
I don't have to give statictics to show what Ganguly has done for indian cricket. He almost got India its second cricket world cup.He has got India from the stage of 'has the potential' to 'performs at least once in a while'.I agree that the team still is not consistent enough but they are moving ahead.
I think the real problem of Indian cricket is the selectors' treatment of non-performers.Sometimes they are thrown out too early or they are given more chances than they deserve.Throwing out GANGULY WILL NOT HELP

Ganguly : batting : has become worse!
Feilding: was never good.
Bowling: Is he a bowler too?
Running betwn wickets: we've seen that!
Cricket sense: Being punishd again n again for slow over rate.
Congratulation to the writer of this article! You ve hit it right.

we dont get the point here
by shashi on Sep 24, 2005 09:04 PM

with all the controversies hovering around regarding sourav's captaincy, we are missing the point that if not ganguly then who??? certainly not rahul.....this was clearly visible in the one-dayers how good a captain he is. and other members are less experienced to get the position of the captain.hence we are left with no option but to retain him as the captain. so my advice to both the coach greg chapell and sourav ganguly would be to work amicably....because what the entire country wants in the end is WORLD CUP in 2007

Totally wrong against Ganguly
by Ankur on Sep 24, 2005 07:29 PM

Thw writer has to be more than Ganguly to speak aginst Ganguly. Who other than Sachin, made India to make maximum no. of wins? Its ganguly and no one else! one must not forget his statistics after all. What he has done in Lords, has made all Indians feel proud! One needs to be a 'braveheart' to do that.
Sitting out of fence, and writing XYZ will never make any sense. We all have to be by the side of Ganguly when he is in actual need. We need to win the 2007 World Cup! And only Ganguly can lead to it. No one else!

Comments on Indian Cricket.
by Sreedhar on Sep 24, 2005 06:37 PM

I endorse the views of aravind to some extent.
The issue that has come to light is not questioning ganguly as a player but as an individual in a team.

No doubt he was one of the graceful lefthanders in yesterday's cricket. Today's Opponents have identified his weakness with the willow and cashed upon repeatedly in recent times. With changing times,
had he applied wise strategies then our country would not have lost 19 finals. His contribution with the bat in teams score is very little in last 2 years. He has not contributed to the team total to his potential.

No doubt that Sourav has been the most successful captain India had, but it is worth noticing that most of the matches won under his captaincy are due to individual brilliance and not because of wise tactics of the captain.

As a team captain he should take his team into confidence and lead from front. When India won under Dravid during thier visit to pakistan, Ganguly, rested for an injury, took pain killers and played the last match and then recieved the trophy as a captain. It is time and again observed that ganguly strives for personal image rather than for collective team image.

greg-ganguly fiasco
by raj on Sep 24, 2005 06:00 PM

irrespective of gangulys performance, etc, for which action needs to be taken. talk of team spirit coming from greg is a big joke. here is a man who left the national team to play for kerry packer
a man who made his brother bowl underarm for the fear of losing
a typical aussie who does not mind doing anythig for self victory gets bugged when the tables are turned against them. a typical white man who cannot stand a person standing upto him and giving it back in the same measure.
we too have succumed to his tactics. good going the people of the nation without self esteem.how dare a coach ridicule a captain of the national team in public and get away with it
action needs to be taken against ganguly for his form but not disgrace him publically
have a consience and self esteem people of india
