Prem Panickers recent column on BCCI election
by Sudhanshu Joshi on Nov 30, 2005 01:00 PM

Sir,
Mr. Panicker recently illustrated his thoughts, rather "intellectually" in his article based on Mr. Sharad Pawar winning the BCCI election.

Just one point though, as an avid fan of Indian Cricket, and of Cricketing legend - Sachin Tendulkar, I feel that Mr. Panicker has neither the experience nor the "Intellect" to comment on the Cricketing contributions of Sachin Tendulkar, leave aside pass a judgement on Sachin Tendulkars ability to win matches for India.

Please, should Indian "Intellects" stop passing judgements for which they are neither qualified nor capable of.

Thanks..

--Sudhanshu

BCCI FATE IN ABLE HANDS
by jaywant suryavanshi on Nov 30, 2005 12:38 PM

The fate of BCCI has gone in the able hands of Hon.Agriculuture minister and Mumbai cricket Association President Mr.Sharad Pawar.
It is proved by the pragmatic decisions taken by Hon.BCCI President during his tenure as MCA President. The way of finding out solutions on long pending issues of MCA.

Depoliticize the Environment! Now!
by Krishnaraj on Nov 30, 2005 12:36 PM

This is a brilliant analysis that goes to the heart of the problem. Clearly, people in Indian sport and Indian public life urgently need to jettison the fudging and the let's-accommodate-each-other attitude. Clear-cut decisions, transparency and a culture of owning up responsibility is the way out of our current mess.

This is the most sensible article that I have read so far about Ganguly controversary. Kudos to rediff to publish article. I've been so tired and frustrated reading some cheap, tasteless propaganda in the name of journalism. Great Work Prem!

What Sharad Pawar needs to do
by P.S.Rao on Nov 30, 2005 12:29 PM

The era of Jagmohan Dalmiya is over. One should not look back now but move forward to new goals and achievements.
In the era that has just ended, one was a smooth operator and his cohorts were willing operatives, may be for pleasure or pelf.
With the past as a guide the new committee should avoid the same road to perdition.

Sharad Powar need not do all these
by NAGRAJ K V on Nov 30, 2005 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

As suggested in the article if the new office tries to do post mortem they will be frittering away their energy.

What Sahrad Pawar should do is to make BCCI a professional neutral organisation where merit of the players should only be the crieteria for selection.

We have seen before that a new hero comes after defeating a villain but after some time this hero behaves worse than the previous villain.(Sharad pl listen)

If India wants to build a team that could beat Australia then the board should behave with more partiotism leaving behind regionalism & petty politics.

In the new order Even Sourav should have a chance to make a guinine come back after working hard.( This time around the come back was not all that fare)

Ganguly is a disgrace to India!!
by jeev on Nov 30, 2005 12:20 PM  | Hide replies

Dear prem,

It is not to target Ganguly, no doubt he has achieved success for India ( although it is abysmal when you compare with other Nations). But look at the way he behaves, as if he is a big maharaja, rogue, rough and violent (read being Freddy).
Personal milestones are important but team comes first no player is bigger than the sports itself.
Finally, I deplore the behaviour of Bengalis, they behaved like antinationals the other day at Eden Garden. Shame on you guys!!

Dear Jeev,
You may still choose to deplore Bengalis after what's been written by Avishek.....and you are well within your rights to do so.........if you think so! But then, that's what YOU think!
Now, let me introduce myself.
1. I AM a Bengali
2. I AM a fan of Sourav....but NOT a BIASED fan
Since Sourav was not playing well in both forms of the game, it was definitely acceptable (at least, to me) that he needed to sit out of the game & prove himself. But then, the way of doing that? ......that was difficult to accept!!! I'm not sure if that's ever crossed your mind.
Look here man, we all have different idols in different walks of life. Our choices may be different & that's what makes each of us an individual. But, deploring each other in terms of regions is not the way forward. Think over it.......you might agree to what I've written.
Though a Bengali, I wouldn't deplore people of the region where you come from.......after having read what you wrote. However, all said & done.........I accept that the crowd in Eden Gardens on that day could have given a better show, as they are normally renowned to do.............
Hope you understand what I've said.......before you reply.

Hey Jeev,
What are you saying? you seem to be a very selfish brute. Look at what he has done for Indian team. He has lifted the Indian Team to new heights in the recent past. What use is Sachin to the Indian team, Scoring a 100 in every 10-20 matches is not enough. Sachin has failed miserably in almost all the matches except a couple of games. When the selectors are able to retain Sachin on his past records, why not Ganguly? WE Indians are never Grateful nor Thankful. Greg needs to be kicked in his ass for calling an Indian, one of the finest cricketers in the world as NOT MENTALLY STABLE... You would be killed if you would go to Pakistan and say INZY is not mentally stable. Why are we Indians like this?

Dear Jeev,

Everyone is entitled to his/her own views in this country. You have shared yours. Let me introduce myself..

1. I am a Bengali
2. I am NOT a Sourav Ganguly biased fan.

I was there at the Eden Gardens during the 4th one-day, and thoroughly denounced the attitude of the crowd. Now, I have one very small question for you:

By making a comment like "Finally, I deplore the behaviour of Bengalis, they behaved like antinationals the other day at Eden Garden. Shame on you guys!!", HOW DIFFERENT are you yourself behaving than those foolhardy spectators ??

What good does it serve if you try to oppose regional bias by making an out-and-out anti-regional comment yourself ?? Before answering (if you care to do so) please make sure that you understood what I said.

Avishek.

pls do not typify everything to one community. we certainly deserve better than that. it happened b4 too in delhi. remember.."no kapil, no cricket" sloganeering.

Panickerji has written a logical piece and a workable course of action. I'm sure it will do good to surface things out, take appropriate action and move ahead.

Well Said Prem
by Sudeep Hota on Nov 30, 2005 12:17 PM

I have always knows u to be one of the Anti-ganguly people, however, this article has been fair and well written..

Never before has the BCCI election revolved around a player, however greathe might be.. now Ganguly is there.. shining in the midst of everything.. it is good for him and the team.. that the runs will decide his fate... rather than past laurels or controversies (now that he is no longer the captain!!)

Of course, a player like him deserves to be given a transparent and frank opinion.. on his attitude, performance and role in the team.. rather than just being thrown out.., something which the Jaggu gang did just to save their face to the coach and the public..

Ganguly himself can clear this mess now.. only by scoring runs.. and defying the "Jaggu as godfather" fact... else, it is over and out for him...

what sharad pawar needs to do
by munnabhai.motiwala on Nov 30, 2005 12:08 PM

I am totally convince with prems comments firstly sharad pawar should ask the selection commitee and chairman to speak frankly on the subject of gangully secondly he should clean the heartburn of the team, cleaning the selection commitee, the telivision rights mess, the financial and administration mismanagements.by cleaning television rights we will see good vision and earn more advertisements internationallyand india will gain foriengn exchange also.
The selection commitee thinks gangully was not medical fit, they have not included him, is sachin fit definately not, he is comming and playing 1 game makes 2 and 30 runs just to renew his commercial contract for 1 year,India is spending crores of rupees for him why and he is just playing for his commercial benefits.I suggest he should not be given chance to play also if you are not allowing gangully on medical grounds disqualify him also on the same medical unfit, this is done by the selection commitee and the chairman for there benifits. If a horse gets injured in a race course what they do ,they shoot as it will be liablity for the owners, bookies and punters.so pawar cleanBCCI administrations
