What Sharad Pawar needs to do ?
by R Raghupathy on Nov 30, 2005 09:45 AM

Sir,
Mr.Prem Panicker has in his column stated that the way Ganguly was outsted was not correct. I agree with him but in India even greats like Azhar(as captain and player), Kapil(as coach) and even some international greats like Haynes, Mark Waugh etc - the list gets increasing. I think Ganguly's issue is a thing of the past and indulging on the facts now will be digging our own grave. Let us now analyse the aftereffects of Ganguly's outster:
1) New captain in Dravid with more attacking instincts and visual thinking and accepting coach Greg Chappel's methods of training
2) There is a spring in the spirits of the Indian more now and even players like Harbhajan - who was once considered lazy fielder- fielding brialliantly especially in the last one dayer at Mumbai against S.Africa
3) More newcomers like R P Singh, Sreesanth are emerging giving a fight to the experienced cricketers like Tendulkar, Yuvraj - who has now realised his potential and doing better and even Shewag. When a experienced bowler like Zaheer - inspite of doing well in domestic games not finding place in the team - what more do u want?

Leave the team as it is without Ganguly - please no petty politics.

EXPECTATIONS FROM Mr PAWAR
by vikas k gupta on Nov 30, 2005 09:44 AM

What we expect from Mr Pawar :
1. After the relief all around the country that Mr Dalmiya has been set aside (finally ?!) temporarily -after doing good work & then becoming arrogant, Mr Pawar starts badly by appointing non-test players in the selection committee. The new appointees are not even known for any great talent spotting skills also.. Pls reform the selection committee into a 3-memeber professional body.

2. Recognise the Players Assn and allow them to appoint a memeber to the BCCI Exe committee.

3. Once for all reform the BCCI rules by making them more lodical and remove discretionary powers.
Reform BCCI to ensure 50% of descision making body members are ex-International Cricket Players with preference to players playing more than 20 ODI or 10 Test Matches.

4. Appoint Mr Bindra or Mr Dungarpur as CEO for day-to-day functioning and also to represent BCCI in ICC/ACC.

5. Merge Womens Cricket Assn with BCCI and encourage the Womens Cricket Team

6. Remain transparent and slowly weed out the parasites from all cricket boards.

Mr Pawar, the cricket loving public expect some genuine good work from your team. Pls do not disappoint us..

What Sharad Pawar needs to do
by Prosenjit on Nov 30, 2005 09:41 AM

The article is well thought and written well. Powar definitely has a humongous task at hand now. Also we need to train our players/captains on How to make public statements. Recently Dravid's comments on not getting enough support at Kolkata was not expected from a man like him. He would definitely be an unpopular man there which utherwise definitely liked him. The same mistake was committed by the coach, former captain, Bhajji and now Dravid is doing the same. We need a definite Dos and Dont's on what the players and coach should speak in public.

I could not agree with your views more. Sourav Ganguly has made what Team India is today. Nobody in his wildest imagination can acuse him of promoting regionalism. Sourav Ganguly was not the captain of a fragmented Indian team. He was India's pride and still is as his records cannot be wished away. It pains me to see that he is being painted as a regional favourite and I agree that the BCCI is 100% responsible for this image of his today.

What Sharad Pawar Needs to do...
by GoodMorning on Nov 30, 2005 09:38 AM

Dear Mr.Panicker;

Thanks for this thoughtful write-up.
Yes this is a time not to see the things focussing only Sourav Ganguly. He has played for the country and did well.He has not been performing -and he is kept out of the team.Sharad Pawar, based on his vast experience in National politics must bring out an ethical governance framework to sustain these and treat our players equitably.

But the early morning does not show a good sign as yet.Three selectors , who supposedly pushed Sourav in test team has immidiately been sacked.I smell some vindictive perspective.Selection Committee chairman has been re-iterating Sourav is not performing for last 2-3 years.Where was he during this time? Why did not raise his issue? If raised, why was not this listened to?Chappel made the worst of allegations for a national cricket captain. This must be probed. If it is true,Ganguly should immediately be banned from all kind of cricket. If not, let us have a democracy.Finally..let us pary we really play and understand cricket well, our next generations learn the best of the stuffs.

In Jaipur Stand a 12 yr old boy dances with a plackard..."Sachin Master,Sehwag Blaster..Ganguly a Disaster".Great!!!

My Views on pawar being elected as president
by T.R.SRINIVAS on Nov 30, 2005 09:37 AM  | Hide replies

Something good has happened after a gap of 21 years
approximately. I sincerely hope that the board will
surely think and work and rework to improve the quality of the game and on the players to motivate
them in winning any ODI Series and also Test MATCHES

What i really feel is that earlier board was not at all working in terms of improving the game or the selecting correct players for the game. I feel there
was lot of Politics involved in the board.

All the Best Mr.Sharad Pawar... The Maratha Strong Man

Who scored century against Australia, England and Pakistan?
And if Ganguly scored centuries against "B" grade teams why couldn't other great batsmen do it?

Fire Ganguly!!!!
by Subramanium on Nov 30, 2005 09:07 AM  | Hide replies

The priority should be to fire Ganguly. A useless player
scoring centuries against B-Grade Teams shouldnt represent India let alone be the captain.Shameful Mr Ganguly as for your personal interests, you ruined our teams chances of winning at the Eden Gardens.Crowds booing our own country. Are you really the son of soil?
Mr Pawar, never ever conduct any more matches on Eden Gardens.Any stadium which boos our country is not worth it.

Dear Subu beta,
Do not panic! Sharad Pawar has enough brains to decide on where matches should be conducted. You are cursing Ganguly for the unruly behaviour of the Calcutta crowd at Eden Gardens...........are you in your senses? Do you think Ganguly carries the copyright of the crowds' behaviour in Calcutta? For a change...........start thinking man!!!

I don't agree with Mr Panikar. You don't have to compare kolkata crowd to bangalore. If you could remember several years ago when Bishan Singh Bedi was not selected to play in test, there was protest in bangalore. He was not from Karnataka.

Ganguly's fate was decided even before Greg Chapel took charge.Public wanted him out. Pls go back to Indiatimes. Check the percentage of people voted him out due to his form. ganguly did not win match for India. He had the blessing of sachin Tendulkar's presence in the team. What Greg did was what an Indian couldn't do for India.

I don't believe ganguly will be supported in India other than in west Begal. You would have different thought if an Indian couch would have done what Greg had done.

We people of Karnataka will support any Indian player either from Bengal or Jammu and kashmir in our grounds. we dont give a cheap ad for our players failures, but we applaud their success.

We don't call anyone prince when he does not merit.

What Sharad Pawar needs to do
by Arv Singh on Nov 30, 2005 04:03 AM

Here we go gain! Just as the writer of this article explains, we should now see 5-6 members from the Bombay team in the Team India. Gone are the days when you have the opportunity to be selected even if you are from UP, Haryana, Punjab, Bengal, or Bihar. Here is the futuristic team representing India: Opener1-kar, Opener2-kar, batsmen1-kar, batsmen1-kar, batsmen2-kar, batsmen3-kar, batsmen4-kar, wicketkeeper-kar, allrounder1-kar, allrounder2-kar, bowler1-kar, bowler2-kar, spinner1-kar, spinner2-kar.
