Wish the selectors & board had a thinking person.
by Ajith Kumar on Nov 30, 2005 03:45 AM

Hi Prem,

I totally agree with you views on the whole saga that has engulfed Indian cricket in the last 2-3 months. As you rightly said, the board & selection members who don't seem to have anything resembling the brain, need to make the whole thing transparent. With Pawar at the helm it is going to be even worse because he is a seasoned politician & Indian cricket could well do without it. Thanks to all these jokers the team and its supporters have been split into numerous factions, which was one thing that was non-existant during the days of Ganguly & Wright.

Things have taken a turn for the worst & it is very unsettling to see that none of the existing players bother to even mention the word - Ganguly. It will be really interesting to see what will be played out over the next few weeks. I sincerely wish Indian cricket board had atleast 1 or 2 people who could think like you (Mr. Prem) & handle these issues as an adult. Thanks to you we have one sensible view of the current scenario. As an ardent cricket fan & supporter of the Indian team (no matter what their level of performance is) I wish the team retains the unity they had before Chappell's arrival.

Cheers,

Ajith.

Mr. Asif,

Don't scream. We are Indians & love India. Every natural Indians will love & cherish Sourav for his Patriotic contributions for Indian cricket & Team India. I think thats a heart burn for you anti-nationals, because you people are anti for everything in this world. Sourav is not like your Azhar (the legend in match fixing & betting). Shame on you.

I feel pity for you people.

Ganguly's comeback
by Raj on Nov 30, 2005 02:49 AM

Very good article, My opinion would be Inclusion of Saurav at this time after Kolkata's hostility towards Indian Cricket team will lead to polarization within the team over personal affections. Whatever favorable situation in future may exist but Chappell and Ganguly can not work together and Ganguly's inclusion will make the situation even worse.Time is no doubt the solution but time does not erase all especially bitter memories and this is what Indian Cricket will have to pay for. Ganguly should think by himself about his comeback.

Need professional help
by smaster on Nov 30, 2005 02:26 AM  | Hide replies

Indian cricket is a mirror image of India in every respect. I hate to be a pessimitst, but what is needed is some true professional help and not political help. Leadership,Team building and Organization is something which doesn't exist and all we have is Crude Politics.. We need to bring some top sports management skills to the Board, Leadership skills to the captain, and Team building skills to the Team. Take all of them out to some where like IIM campus or Stanford leadership institutes, get some pro leadership training and teach them the skills.. Besides cricket a sports team needs all the above mentioned skills to be succesful. it's worth the effort, and until then we will never have a plan, let alone a game plan, and we can foget worldcup forever..............

Mr. Bala,
Hats off to you. You are the one guy of S. India origin (if I am not wrong) who is broad-minded and is not afraid to speak the truth for the sake of India.
Hope the so called journalist who are biased will learn a thing or two from you

Greg Chappell's middle finger saulte .... was becaue he was bad-mouthed and treated very badly by the Kolkata crowd, just because he wanted the team to prosper, and for that Ganguly was to be out of the team. If you have the right to express your displeasureagainest him, then he too have the same right.

Prem...Why these Politicians into cricket?
by Sushanta Bala on Nov 30, 2005 02:25 AM  | Hide replies

Prem,

Why the politicians into cricket or that way, in any sports body? Let us make a move that a bill may be brought banning inclusion of politicians in sports bodies.

Another question, why "D" grade players turn selectors?

Dravid's behaviour is natural - a bacboneless weak cricketer who has always towed the line of authority is expected to do this. No doubt the team requires his great batting, but he can no way match Sourav's cricket acumen, fire in the belly, agression, leadership and the zeal to realize the potential of young cricketers - like Harbhajan, Irfan, Zaheer, Yuvraj, Kaif, Sewhag, Dhoni - half of the current 11. He knows that he can no way compete with Sourav for captaincy and so is licking the boots of cricket administrators and the audacious Greg Chappel for survival. Typical behaviour of the weak, without a voice of their own. But it is not only weak, but there are also WICKED DESIGNS. Greg's finger salute, another hallmark of his background and clan, was supported by one person in India - Dravid. His reference to Gavaskar & the Calcutta crowd was a desperate attempt to justify or deflect attention from Greg's finger salute. And the silence of Raj Sing's & Bindra's & even Pawar - also shows their support. Cricket will make lots of Dollars, make coffers full but Indian dream of a great world cup show fades, daily. A lame duck captain, haughty coach, insepid selector crafts the tombstone

While I appreciate Bobs view in the present team Scenerio, but can Bob say something on that Finger Issue of Greg.Kolkatans have shown great refrain and gGreg was spared. For that matter Bob you must see the fervor in Foot Ball league matches in Europe and read about the crowd behaviour. It is Calcutta that generates the Moolah for juicy cricket.
As far Gangully is concerned his exclusion from the ODI is an outcome of deadly politics that is being played by Kiran More Greg and Dravid. Otherwise if we go by the recent matches figures of Shewag,Tendulkar barring Pakistan tour they should not have been in the playing 11.
