Bengalis

It is amazing how one can tell whether someone is from Bengal or not just by reading the post.

You are Bengali if,

1) You defend the Kolkotta crowd (At least apologise, or stay neutral...dont defend the crowd)!

2) You believe that Ganguly was the greatest batsman ever, teh greatest captain ever,, and should be playing in the Indian team till the age 75. The entire team should consist of Ganguly, his kids and grand kids, and if there arent enough kids, maybe his wife and sister.

5)No one but Dravid could have handled the Chappel-Ganguly controversy better than Dravid..and even with all the chaos and crisis going on, he managed to build a new TEAM INDIA. And he continues to do so and WIN MATCHES FOR INDIA despite controversies like 'Ganguly's inclusion', 'Chappel's Finger' or 'BCCI elections'. I Stand up and Salute him, I think the nations owes the same to him.

6)Kolkata jeered "Rahul Murdabaad", "Sachin Murdabad"..didnt provide the basic humane facilities like food to the Indian Team, the curator doctored the pitch, Bengalis wore Black Flags and insulted the Indian Flag.

7)November 28, 2005..Dravid steers India to level the the series 2-2, Man of the Match, Tendulkar finds form. The Mumbai crowd welcomes the Indian Team back to "INDIA", every run, every wicket, every dive is cheered.

8)Ganguly's performances in the last few matches resemble a Binary Series full of O's and 1's. Domestic matches fixed by Dalmiya to let Ganguly score those mock centuries against domestic bowlers.

9) Ganguly refuses to exit gracefuly, he abused the game when he got into the Nagma scandal..he did the same by leaking team-coach talks to the media.

Dear Mr.Adikari,

Well said. I have few incidents to share with you all,

The test win at Pakistan under Rahul as a stand-in-captain (Saurav was briefly absent)

Rahul backed Saurav, very well from the day one as his deputy as well as the best batting partner (remember their run-riot against Srilanka). (I am very sure, Saurav will not deny it)

Rahul accepted the blame on declaration, when sachin was 196 not out... (Truth will come out when Rahul, Sachin and John wright speak about this famous episode)

Guys, but don't point finger at Rahul, he is a thorough gentleman on and off the field.

The most unsung hero of Indian cricket and the most non-controversial cricketer, in recent times. We are lucky to have people like Rahuls.

Long live Rahul and God bless you and Team India.

THE BOTTOM LINE
by S Adhikari on Nov 29, 2005 05:06 PM

I'm an INDIAN, A proud Bengali born and brought up in New Delhi (which shouldn't mean I'm not in touch with my roots).

And today I want to say: "I AM ASHAMED OF BEING A BENGALI HENCEFORTH, I really think some of us have insulted the Indian Flag."

Some facts for you guys which should shut up these fanatics:

1) Rahul Dravid was the player of the year 2004 for scoring the higest runs in a calendar year.

2) Rahul Dravid holds an avg of 57.3 through all the ODI matches and an avg of 78.2 for Test matches WON under the Captainship of 'Sir' Ganguly. Which drives the obvious point home.

3) Rahul Dravid is the highest scorer for 2005..is unarguably The Best batsman in the world. Even better than the great Tendulkar (I'm one of the biggest fans of his genius with the cricket bat). Dravid scores over him with sheer CONSISTENCY.

4)Ganguly never brought Dravid back..Dravid made his comeback into ODIs after he modified his game tremendously and became THE WALL, THE IMMOVEABLE. Obviously, Ganguly never batted for Dravid, nor did Tendulkar..Rahul made those runs himself.

Kolkatta's Crowd
by sathya.G on Nov 29, 2005 04:57 PM

I think that's right. Before Mumbai's ODI Sachin's Average is just 11. He has scored just 77 runs in 7 matches. If BCCI excluded Sachin in 5th ODI means, Is the Mumbai Crowd was support our team.? I think Bengalies like cricket than Dada.No Sourav No Cricket.

EDEN GARDENS AN UTTER DISGRACE
by Saso on Nov 29, 2005 04:04 PM

It was truly shocking to read some of the "proud to be a bengalis" giving explanations about a disgraceful and shameful act by the "famed" kolkatta crowd.Guess they have forgotten that they are Indian first and then a bengali.I do admire their "courage" though,to even think of comparing ganguly to tendulkar. HA !!!!!WHAT A WASTE!!!!!!!

Bengalis and the past celebrities
by Indian on Nov 29, 2005 03:46 PM

I have stayed in Kolkata for over 3 years. And whenever there has been any discussion ABOUT/AGAINST Bengalis...they ALWAYS boast about who all you know -

- their past in terms of Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya, Subhash Chandra Bose and what not!!

To be very frank, I have never seen any bengali\\\'s discussion without reference to these people.

God save bengalis! They will continue to just boast about themselves and their contribution!!

Come out of such mental state poor bengalis and think about being INDIAN first atleast!

With regard to issue at hand, well Kolkattans deserve a penalty by barring Kolkata from hosting any cricket match for 5 years.

Sourav - you are a great player.
Prove asap that you deserve a place in the team - come back - and make loads of runs for the country!!
We need your long sixes towards long-on and long-off back for the team...!!

Indian win over SA
by A.Kumar on Nov 29, 2005 02:21 PM

So, Indian team has finally won in Mumbai, showing Kolkata crowd that we can still maintain our winning spree inspite of our one loss at Kolkata. This is a win of our new found Guru Greg Chappel. Win of our new good boy captain Rahul. Win of Sharad Power over Dalmiya. Win of India over Bengal.Hats off to South African team also. They are always so sporting & supporting to their rivals. They can smile even when the match is slipping from their hand. This remind us of the days of Hanse Cronje. God forbid, the same story does not get repeated here for Graheme Smith also. Meanwhile congrat South Africa for their big smile after loss in Mumbai.Congrats maratha strongman Sharad Power also. As now Mr.Power becomes king of BCCI ,he must ban all cricket matches in Kolkata. In fact Bengal should be seperated from India also for demanding a little respect for an Indian Captain. Ganguly might have been Indian Captain a few days back. But after all he is a Bengali. He should not be treated at par with other Indians.God save Indian cricket. Jai Hind.Jai Bharatmata

Kolkata- The worst sporting centre
by Sanghamitra on Nov 29, 2005 11:10 AM  | Hide replies

I cant just express my disgust at the response of the Bengalis to Ganguly being deservingly dropped from the ODI team...And to boo Rahul Dravid is downright funny as well as sad!! Bengalis have conveniently forgotten that Ganguly would be nowhere near to deing a successful captain without Dravid!!! Are they so cricket blind and poor foolowers of the game to imagine that Ganguly won the test matches off his own bat! Its unfortunate that Ganguly was not dropped from Captaincy at least 1 year back if not 2.
