I cant just express my disgust at the response of the Bengalis to Ganguly being deservingly dropped from the ODI team...And to boo Rahul Dravid is downright funny as well as sad!! Bengalis have conveniently forgotten that Ganguly would be nowhere near to deing a successful captain without Dravid!!! Are they so cricket blind and poor foolowers of the game to imagine that Ganguly won the test matches off his own bat! Its unfortunate that Ganguly was not dropped from Captaincy at least 1 year back if not 2.

Agreed that I do not support what was done by Greg(the finger controversy). But 1 has to consider the sequence of events that have pushed Greg chappel to do this.
Greg had been awarded the prestigious job of coaching the Indian team .He was paid a huge sum of money to do this.
1.Ganguly's attitude and non performance has always stood out.Greg had informed about this to Bindra et all.WHY WAS THIS LEAKED TO MEDIA? Bengalis may question about Tendulkar's performance. There R 2 things that differentiate the 2
a)Greatness(Ask anyone who understands cricket)
b)Attitude
2.Why were comments in dressing room MADE PUBLIC by Ganguly and his supporters?
3.Why was Ganguly's discussion with his daughter printed in TOI?
Al these were done to obtain sympathy for Ganguly.
Bengalis always have vested interests. That one of their leaders had danced on the streets when China invaded India is proof enough of the mentality of Bengalis. While writing this we also remember Subhash Chandra Bose who also happens to be one of my favourite freedom fighters. But then every rule has an exception

You are kind enough to think about Subhash Chandra while thinking about 'always vested interest, the bengalees'.

You have forgot that a few years back the same crowd became unruly in favour of Sachin (during collision with Shoyaib Akhtar). You for got that the same crowd mocked at Gavaskar in favour of Kapil.

Don't try to mix nationalism-issue when we discuss about cricket. Bengalees need not get techings on nationalism fro other communities. History says that.
Just that they are more reactive by nature. In general 'vested interests' are less reactive by nature and shows coolness always.

That's why you people spend words rebuking Bengalees, but not Greg Chappel for his obscene behaviour. You are quite nationalist and not at all partisonist. Carry on ...............

all you ganguly fans r traitors and deserve to be dumped in eden gardens. what happened in calcutta was unfortunate and unpatriotic obviously for kolkottans country comes second. no wonder some indian cricketers remarked after coming to mumbai that they are happy to back in india.

Bongs are neither Cricket crazy nor are they Football crazy. They are basically just crazy people.
Forgive them GOD, that they know not what they are doing :)

The few bengalis who think that they are bengalis first and indians later deserved more than the middle finger.

Chappell's a human
by Sameer on Nov 29, 2005 08:59 AM

It was truly disgraceful behaviour by the Kolkatan crowds to support their local boy and booing the team. perhaps they thought that if india lost then ganguly would be chosen, and hence made a lot of efforts to support SA in that game

As for the finger incident, one must realise that Chappell is also a human being, and a hot blooded human at that. after getting so much abuse from hundreds of people, anyone will crack. people shouting "ganguly dada, chappel gadha" in the crowds was ok was it? showing a finger is an instintive reaction of frustration and if the public is shouting profanity at your team and you just to support their local boy then anyone will be frustrated

Kolkatta hostility unfortunate
by Rakesh on Nov 29, 2005 04:49 AM

The good thing about Calcutta is that its people like to come to stadium in numbers. They love the sport.

And as Crowd is like a herd, some so called leaders ( political, news makers, BCCI etc ) use the crowd to their advantage.

Whatever has happened in Kolkatta should be just taken along. Its sometimes helpful to play in alien atmosphere and it only proves a point that Indian Team easily surrenders when the Crowd is not supportive. it has happened in past too whether Sharjah or Colombo. The pitch was equal for both the teams and hopefully Indians would learn to play before the patisan crowds. Chappel should not be an issue. The media is blowing insignificant things out of proportion.
