Unfortunate but not unsurmountable

The behavior of Calcutta crowd was no different from that of some Indians(?) during 1962 war with China.

It was disgusting to see the curator smiling all through the Indian innings.

Having said that, one fails to understand the abject surrender by the Indians. They could have just imagined as if they were playing in Capetown and not in Calcutta. That would have taken away the impact of Calcutta shocks.

Calcutta Crowds

Enough of international cricket in bigoted bengal. We have had several instances of absolutely rude behaviour (remember the world cup semi against SL in 1996?) We have a player who is clearly struggling against even reasonably decent international bowling and some decent domestic bowling- (remember the 0-0 pair the prince got in the recent ranji match. Cricket and decorum associated with it can not be held to ransom because of a bigoted, parochial crowd. Put a ban on international cricket in Cal. The crowd can be happy watching second division league matches where their prince can make mincemeat of some two-bit bowler.

Its really sad to see the people of kolkata don't have respect for the indian team, why the people of kolkata are forgetting that they are indians, who is ganguly ? is he not an indian, we are not playing as kolkata team, india has many states it dosen't mean that every state wants their people in the team, if this is the case then india will be having its own 4 to 5 teams, why the people of kolkata are fogetting that ganguly was given more than 50 chances still he could not perform, no doubt the team was successful under his captancy, but i don't think we should give credit only to captain, its the team which has performed... Last just a reminder to Kolkata people "IT IS TEAM INDIA" not "TEAM KOLKATA"

Hey
Do you think they would have fared any better if ganguly had been in the team ????

the behaviour of kolkatta is not due to poor performance(agreed), but due to ganguly being left out
and every one knows this fact

The BCCI should take a tough stance against authorities at Eden Gardens ; it is a disgrace that such a wicket was prepared and even more shameful was the disgusting attitude shown by the partisan crowd...after all,can someone tell me what kind of innings has ganguly played last and WON/SAVED a match for us ??? his centuries are all inconsequential and against weak oppositions..when we prepare statistics, the quality of the runs scored is never counted...

I agree with Ben's comments. A team that gets bowled out for less than 200 on a sub continent pitch (albeit with a litlee grass) and fails to pick up a single wicket of the opposition deserves to be ridiculed. Just imagine these jokers batting on a Perth or a Durban wicket. Look at Sachin's performances after his come back. He scored a 93 against SL when Irfan Pathan really removed all sting from the bowling. In the second match he scored 67* when India was chasing a paltry 122 in 50 overs. Then when the pressure was on in the next two matches, i. e., when India was chasing 299 he made 2 and when India was chasing 261 in the 4th ODI he made 10 which included an edged 6 behind the keeper's head and was out bowled by Chaminda Vaas to a shot that would have put Harbhajan Singh to shame. In this series he has 3 scores of 2. Rather than worrying about Kolkata crowd behavior Indian team would be better off learning how to play quality fast bowling in helpful pitches. Team India is better off plugging these obvious holes than complain about crowd behavior and all that.

whats so disgraceful????

its a disgrace that the indian batters collapsed for 180 odd with the mere hint of grass and then the bowlers bowled like school kids on the same conducive wicket !!

what will happen to these rudderless jokers when they go to australia, south africa & pak & england eh???

they are so used to playing on desert-esque pitches that whenever the pitch is different, their real calibre comes out.

its such a shame that people are blaming the pitch, crowd, mosquitoes, weather, the rainfall in bolivia and the harvest in mongolia for one of india's most thumping losses.

excuses are something that losers always have.

had australia lost similarly, they would have taken the blame upon themselves without blaming irrelevant factors & tried to improve their game in similar pitches henceforth.

what dravid brigade did is pass the buck. thats great but the team doesent improve with such a finger-pointing tendency. eden gardens exposed them, & in more ways than one!

those guys havent even realised the problem (ie. their inability to play on lively pitches), so forget about solving it anytime soon.

and expect more such hammerings when we go out of the subcontinent.

this were bad people

if MR.ganguly is not there it doesnt mean this people have to react like this it is not only sourav had lead the team and the only performer for india and the rest of the floks are just there.

it seems like we have to ban the cricket matches in kolkata from now we the bangalore people dint even talked about a great perfromer anil kumble for his ommision. if we do that then hyderbad people should do the same thing on laxman's omission then the indian team will not represent india insteded they will repersent the state they are playing .

its very sad to say but after this insdenint its going to be sate matches.

Shame on u Kolkattans
by Anay on Nov 28, 2005 08:38 AM

It is a real shame that Indian team was made to feel like aliens in their own country. Just because Ganguly wasnt in the team, Kolkata public treated their own team as visiting team and made a great display of anti-national thinking. Even if they are hurt that Ganguly wasnt included in the team, that doesnt mean they should have been against their OWN team. SHAME ON U KOLKATTANS ........ SHAME ON U

Ban Kolkatta

The only thing I would say now is to ban any kind of cricket matches in Eden Garden. We have seen enough from these people, now it's time to act.

Why blame Kolkatans?
by aj on Nov 28, 2005 02:09 AM  | Hide replies

Rahul is now spaeking in different voices in different places....yesterday he was more diplomatic in saying that he would do well to take cheers and jeers in stride....now in Mumbai he says Kolkatans behavior was unfortunate....even SAfricans are surprised to see Saurav out of action so his fans had every right to protest the manner of his exclusion.
It is also a fact whether you like it or not that whether it be politics, sports, Music/films or even business it has been and will be hard for India to do well withouit the support of Kolkatans!! So it would be in good interests to mend fences with Kolkatans!!

So, you mean Kolkatha (Bengal) is self reliant?

They don't need others.

Then, why don't you declare independence?

Mr. would u pls think before u talk??well, maybe one can accept the endless good contributions of Kolkattans to r country. But, Kolkatta is not the only state contributing, there r many more to d so!!!

Moreover, no sensible team on Earth would include someone who doesn't merit a place inside the team! To compete at the international level, one thing that is more important than fitness or form or skill is the attitude! Its been told thousand of times before that THE GAME IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL!!!
Hope some people would understand that soon.

Being a fan of ganguly dosent't mean u should speak againt or go against the indian team, why u forget that u are an indian 1st, if u beleive in south africans statement, u are not fit to be an indian, its better u & ganguly go to south africa & settle, ganguly was given a chance more that 50 times which will be a carrier for any other cricketer, under his captancy india has good records but did u analyse his contribution which is no where. We call "TEAM INDIA" not "TEAM KOLKATA"
