modh

i think mohd kaif deserves a place as it is clearly seen that he is the batsmen in form and if he doesnt bat in test matches how can he perform and show his form. i also didnt understand the inclusionof yuvraj singh in the team while in the earlier series he was dropped and mohd kaif was in and performed well. kaif did not do anything wrong to be dropped. kaif has to be in the team as he is in form and can improve with more exposure

Step down...Saurav!
by Rajeev Venkat on Mar 30, 2005 12:33 PM

i more than agree with the author. a wise man must understand the situation pragmatically rather than only view it passionately. passions may fire the imagination once in a while but it cannot be an alibi for performance. even by that standard, the passion is clearly missing out of saurav. he seems lost in himself & in the process lost the complete moral authority to direct the team. the team can ill-afford to lose momentum after having performing so well in recent times.

saurav should realise that all good things HAVE to come to an end & so must his era as a successful captain. he should rather focus on the ODI rather than drag his luck. there is no logic in keeping our Kaif & Yubraj to accomodate him just because he is an annointed captain.

kiran more in my opinion made a fool of himself by saying that the Selectors have faith in him. ofcourse, you couldnt have expected him to attack the captain with the impending ODI series but atleast he should have refrained from sounding insensitive to the opinion of millions & the reasonable.

we should have more professional Selectors too. Even the selectors should take blame for failure since they have chosen the team.

India needs to win
by Sai Krishna on Mar 30, 2005 12:17 PM

Dear Saurav

It is very insulting factor that u level the series where u have to win. I really wonder, how We are getting lot of records, records like highest scorer, Highest Average, and Great Batsmans.

Still India loosing 5-6 wickets within 40 runs. I suppose there is no strategy to win the series. Everybody was facing each bowlers ball like dieing situation.

The World's Second Best Team???
by Girish Noshikunte on Mar 30, 2005 11:34 AM  | Hide replies

Why was India's performance on the Final Day of the Test a "Disaster"

It was a disaster not because we lost to our arch-rivals.
It was a disaster not because we couldnt win the test match.
It was a disaster not even because we could not draw the test match.
It was a disaster because we lost the match even before Pakistan won it.

Statistics will tell you that the worlds mightiest Middle order comprising of Rahul Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly collectively scored 39 runs in the second innings, but the look on Gangulys face when given out would have told you that he would have taken 10 runs as a match winning performance.

Statistics will tell you that Tendulkar has scored 10,123 runs and is the highest run getter for India, but Mohammed Samis glare at tendulkar delivery after delivery will tell you who had the hunger.

Statistics will tell you that Laxman played one of the most magical innings of crickets history to bring India from the grave to an impossible Victory, but the prodding leg that resulted in his LBW will tell you that the zest to move them have paled.

Pakistan won the Test fair and Square with brilliant play, but not before India lost it

RE:The World's Second Best Team???

why did the match go to the final day in the first place ??? why were pak let off the tenterhooks when they were 7/2 in the first innings ??? how come our world class bowlers in bhajji & kumble failed miserably & let pak score 570 runs on home soil ????once that is done no team, I repeat no team, not even the great aussie batting line up can recover & the proof of it is the last test series in aus where india kept getting runs & then put them under pressure..
lets accept it our bowling line up is still not up to the mark & they need wickets suited to them & runs on the board to get the opposition out.
aussies donot need that !! they just go there & pound the opposition & get them allout in a day 2 times & themselves bat 2 days.. game over in 4 days..
for last 4 yrs indian batsman have been getting runs in tests & big runs (400 runs is a big enough score in tests on any wicket & aussies will second this !!) it is just that our bowling is not potent enough to defend.. on a given day they can be lethal & on the other day they can be pedestrians which is prooved by kumble's 2 back to back performances --
6/73 in Kolkatta & then 0/150 in B'lore
Blame him & not anybody else.

Really nice words of concern!
by vab on Mar 30, 2005 11:32 AM

Very good words of concern for the Indian Captain !
I really hope these words reach Saurav... One more thing, even Sachin also seems to be going wrong somewhere, at the point when he starts accelerating during his innings! A follower of him, Sehwag, plays all those shots so beautifully which Sachin used to play some time back... So, dear Sachin please get back on the field such that you are starting again! We want to see the oppponents begging for sympathy when you, Sehwag, Saurav, Rahul are destroying their their bollowing as if they have never learned how to Bowl!

Its time to leave
by Indian on Mar 30, 2005 09:51 AM

What a diasppointing performance by the captain of Indian cricket team!He has been consistently inconsistent for the past 2 years. There can be excuses for an innings or two..if not a match or two!
But for you..there's no room for excuses my friend!
You can be a good captain..if not a great captain..a captain who lifted the spirits of many young cricketers of our country..but all this is of no use when you are forgetting the basics of the game!Whats the necessity to be in the team without scoring runs, getting wickets...just for fielding..that anyone can do...as a captain..even that can also be done by someone else in the team!So..its time to leave my friend!not for me..or for anyone else...but for India!

by Chaitanya on Mar 30, 2005 09:12 AM

Hi Sulabh

I really appreciate the effort you have put in to show the statistics to the public and more importantly to Ganguly reminding him his job. Its not only me but all my friends agree with your opinion. Hope that Ganguly realises this.

Think of the country first
by dr santosh kirloskar on Mar 30, 2005 08:57 AM

Dada if you have any self respect and true love for this sport, you should step down as Indian captain and also make way for youngsters in waiting.Your negative tactics and approach to the game on Day4 of last test was rediculus and shameful which only showed lack of self confidence and when captain is not confident, the team is heading towards a ditch.

Open letter to Ganguly
by Raj on Mar 30, 2005 08:49 AM

Well written and thought. Wow you have so much time in the world to convince Ganguly that he is no more worth in the team. Please don't call him Sir! No one in the indian team deserves this. They are all professional people with lots of commercial interest. Indian cricket team today is at number 4 or 5 according to me so why boast so much about them?

Anyway all the best to the team I have loved for so long now.
