I agree. I support.

I agree with Sulabh. I support his views. More than most, watching such a evocative batsman has been distressing. If he was never good, it would have not been a problem. But we know that Saurabh carried with him a certain cheerful feeling free of worries and now to the crease he brings apprehension, as if he has forgotten how to play left-handedly. Hope to see the royal Bengal tiger to produce his final surprise.

Ganguly
by itsjust agame on Mar 30, 2005 07:11 AM

Ganguly's problem is his mind is playing tricks on him. How can a top batsman not even realize when the ball hits his stumps? He needs to see a psychiatrist and get all the pressure and self-criticism junk taken out of him.

I missed out watching cricket between 1986 and 2002 and I missed the 2003 Australia test where Ganguly scored 144. So I've never seen a great innings by him. I have a nephew who swears by Ganguly (still).

So just looking at the last 10 or so Tests he's played, I just cannot understand what people see in him. As a batsman he seems to be a bully gone soft. And I really don't like the way he captains, all ego and yelling at team mates and making them nervous.

If Ganguly is credited with creating the team around him, then he is also behind the constant pressure on Laxman. Laxman is a legend and what's more he is in such good nick, able to defend or cut loose as the situation demands. To put pressure on Laxman instead of stepping out himself is such an ornery thing. Just for screwing around with such a gifted batsman, Ganguly needs to exit Test cricket.

Wake up Ganguly. Put yourself out of the misery.

Ganguly

No wonder we Indians write a mail to criticise others just like as if a parent is writing to his child. Ganguly is an very arrogant and un-sportsman captain that India has ever got, he made a Captain of Waugh's stature to wait for him while coming for a toss, never upheld the dignity of his position, thinking that he was the Captain of the Indian Cricket team such as giving loud and boisterous statements before the match that our boys will do this, will do that and so on...and when the actual match happens Ganguly goes to the pavilion with his match fee of lacs of rupees, his advertising fees in his pocket and 0-5 runs in his name. He has taken his place in the team for granted so it is better he is shunted out from the Indian team and left of to cool his heels and head. We need aggresion in cricket but not Arrogance from its players or from its captain, bcoz arrogance leads to complacence and vanity....

Saurav needs to be thrown out
by Srinivas on Mar 30, 2005 01:01 AM  | Hide replies

Saurav needs to be licked on his back and thrown out .

Sachin bats for records & himself and can't handle pressure. He can bat only as an opener and not as a middle order batsman.Looks like Sachin is practising acting instead of Cricket. this can be seen in TVS, Pepsi and worse AIRTEL ads. Let him fight while batting and come out a winner

Open Letter to Ganguly

Hi Sulabh. As a hardcore supporter of Ganguly, I can feel your agony. But I think your statistic needs some correction. You have not included the century Ganguly scored against NZ just prior to India's tour to Aus which is included in the season 2003-04. With those 121 runs, his average becomes 42.25(with Bangladesh matches) and 38.2 without Bangladesh matches during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 season. To get the real picture of Ganguly's form slump you have to see the break up of the two seasons. In fact he played quite well in the 2003-03 season scoring 492 runs in 6 tests with an average of 61.5(two century, two 50) which is quite good by any standard. It is in this 2004-05 season where he had a huge slump scoring only 363 at 30.3 in 9 tests including B'desh matches(or 204 at 20.4 in 7 tests excluding B'desh matches). The more alarming factor is that, it seems, currently he himself is not believing that he can score any run. So finally let us hope he regains that self-belief immediately because that is the only way we can get back Ganguly- the batsman. And by the way, do you know the scores of Laxman this season? In comparison to Ganguly's 363 at 30.3 Laxman scored 377 at 25.1.

I completely agree with what the writer has put forward. it is quite disheartining to find you "DADA" not able to perform with bat long time.
I had always supported you even when your performance was below par. the team you had built from 2001 had been performing beyond expectations(constantly knocking the doors of No.2)
But in 2004-05 you had a poor result in set of one dayers, followed by disturbing loss to Australia, quite an average win over (rebuilding) south Africa
and culmination onedayer loss to bangladesh.
though being harsh it has been big let down season.
now managing to draw a winning match at Mohali & losing the Banglore test on the final day makes it even worse.
its high time you and other non performing assets like( sachin & laxman) allow young guns like (Yuvi & Kaif) to swim on their own.

Can\'t agree more

Why does he keep saying that he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. It's true that he was a great batsman once and (probably still is) a good captain. But doesn't every player constantly prove that he deserves his place in the team. If everyone is allowed to play based on their past records how do we get new (better) players. I think teh selectors should start planning for the future.

True!

What Dhanukua has written is abzoltely correct. We can't expect to retain a player who is consistently failing to score runs..that too at home ..leave out abroad! It must also be noted that Sourav Ganguly's last ODI century against a test playing nation was way back in Sep.2002 against England in SriLanka..Its 2-1/2 yrs since then! I personally also feel that the present Indian team has now grown enough in itself to sustain on its own like Australia,so a non-performing captain could be dropped from the team!Look at Australia who have dumped players like MichaelBevan,ShaneLee.Even the likes of the WAUGH bros. were not spared! If the present trend of retaining non-performing players continues, there's no doubt that our Indian cricket team will soon plummet to the state it was in before Ganguly took over as captain.Come On..own up that u've got to score Sourav!...its high time u get a few centuries!Come on for heaven's sake!
