I don't really find the logic in selecting players like Kumara Sangakkara, Shahid Afridi, Daniel Vettori for this prestigious tournament and leaving out players like Sanath, Vaughan, Inzamam, Anil and even Harbhajan. If the selection chance was given to me I would have selected a better bunch of players than selected by the former greats. I also do not find logic in making Sachin Tendulkar as Vice Captain and Shaun Pollock as Captain in ODI.
In my opinion test captaincy should have been gone to either Brian Lara or Rahul Dravid if you consider the present and past performance.
It will be good to see Sachin as a vice-captain of the world test XI. Apparenetly he has changed his previous opinion of not donning the captain'a cap.If he has agreed to capatin (vice-captain) this world test team then, he might surely consider the Indian team's captainship too. Are the Indian selectors listening?
Shaun Pollock as captain!!!! 6 South Africans!!! Incredible. Pollock,Kallis,maybe Smith only should have been included. And why isn't Inzy in the line-ups!! No Kumble,Harbhajan and the test is at Sydney,and that too a 6 day test..Well Asia definitely has got a raw deal. It might be interesting to see how many people pull out due to injuries,etc..
Time and again a man with 10000 runs is being neglected by the ICC. In general Indian players arent given their respective places in the world arena.. how can one exclude a man who has taken more than 450 wickets in tests, moreover includin Vittori who is not even close as far as wickets are concerened.. Gavaskar hasnt done justice to India being in the selection commity..
Where is Anil Kumble , Dravid, Harbhajan Singh , Chris Cairns and Chaminda Vaas. Are Vettori and Kevin Peterson better than these players ?? ICC must look on this. Can Greame Smith, a new captain, who misjudged ground conditions during final Africa XI and Asia XI lead the likes of Sachin ,Lara, Shoaib, Murli. ? I peronally dont think so. Captain should be some experienced guy.
