Test Captain for world IX
by naiju on Aug 23, 2005 06:59 PM  | Hide replies

My choice as the captain to play against aus is None other than Sourav Ganguly. Because Same as John Whrite Ganguly is the best ever Captain against Australia in the International Cricket ever. He doesn't even find the place in the team it is little bit surprising. I don't know what type of selection of team is this.

U can't waste a slot for captaincy. I think lot of indian cricket viwers can be a better captain than Ganguly. But What u need in the team is a "GOOD PLAYER" who can captain well. Alas Ganguly forgot this thing.

Worried for Sehwag
by Joseph on Aug 23, 2005 06:38 PM  | Hide replies

I am not sure as to why people ar every much worried about Sehwag having to sit out?
Its a great chance that he has been selected to the team. Now, is he worth to play in the first 11 is something that we need not worry about and leave it to John Wright and others to decide.
One thing for sure is, he needs to show some consistency in his batting and his temperment.

At the same time, I feel that Stephen Fleming is being cheated by not being included in the team. He does deserve the spot and to me he would have been the best man to captain the team rather than G Smith

I agree totally with u on the Fleming thing.I personally dont see Graeme Smith doing well ,and Fleming has a proven track record against the Kangaroos.

Shaun Pollock as captain of ODI team is pathetic!! I mean he doesn't even lead his own country's ODI team for christs sake!!. If past captains were to be considered then Lara or even Tendulkar would have been a better choice.

Selection or Stupidity

Following are the statistics of 4 players against Australia. Two have been selected in the world squad and two have been left out. Inexplicably the players who seemed to have done better have been left out.

      Mat      Runs     &nbs p;HS      Bat Avg      100      50
Smith       2      114      68      28.5 & nbsp;    0      1
Vaughan      8 &nbs p;    845      183      52.81  &nbs p;   4      0
Kallis      12   & nbsp;  685      101      32.61    & nbsp; 1      4
Laxman      16    &nbs p; 1457      281      52.03     &nb sp;4      6

Another point to note is the captain Grame Smith has never played in Australia. And Vaughan who had such a wonderful series in australia last year has been left out. Can the wise(so called) selectors please explain this? Following are the statistics V/s Australia in Australia

Mat      Runs      ; HS      Bat Avg      100      50
Smith       0      0      0      0  & nbsp;   0      0
Vaughan      5  &nbs p;   633      183      63.3     ;  3      0
Kallis      6    &nb sp; 452      101      41.09     &nb sp;1      2
Laxman      7      7 15      178      59.58      3       1

There are some players still alive who have played well against Aussies weel.MAy be we can include them instead asking VVSlaxman in the team. Atleast still they may know how to hold a cricket bat.

The team looks to be good expect the exclusion of the great Inzy . Grame smith should have been replaced with Vaugan considering the way he is leading his team in ashes series.

Sehwag is the BEST in TEST
by vik on Aug 23, 2005 06:12 PM  | Hide replies

Sehwag is the BEST opener in test...I would be really surprised at the cricketing acumen of the captain if Sehwag does not open the innings in Super Test.
For super sub in test I would recommend Sachin Tendulkar.

Only Pure Batsman or pure bowler will be used as a Super Sub. Sachin is considered as almost an allrounder in ODI

very poor test squad, poorer choice for captain
by senthil on Aug 23, 2005 06:01 PM

it is a pity that graeme smith is leading the squad. this comes at a time when south africa have been struggling in tests and smith' performance has been no great shakes. Pity that Michael Vaughan and Ganguly one of the two most successful captains in recent times dont find favour. What happened to inzamam a truly great test batsman.

Where are the fast bowlers in squad. shoaib is as unpredictable as the indian monsoon. Flintoff is just a good allrounder, not a true strike bowler.

10000 Runs but.....
by Milind on Aug 23, 2005 05:42 PM

Great Line up ....lets see Aussies wriggle out of this one.... Manoj 10000 runs is great , but how long will we bask in past glory , maybe current form was prime factor in choosing the side. I am not saying right or wrong but such is life. But one thing i would love to add.....I will my prince of cal-cutt-ah. Dada should rule again soon !

Good team
by Ashish on Aug 23, 2005 05:41 PM

The team selected i feel is quite a good one, and should be able to beat Australia team (which now seams to be crumbling). Maybe the likes of Inzy, Kumble, Vaas might feel a bit hard done by!!
