Tendulkar
by Santanu Dutta on Sep 29, 2004 07:29 AM

Tendulkar's talent, like that of Mozart, may have been largely innate, i.e he was born with it and did not have to learn it. In such cases, the talent can wear out with age -- like the creative genius of mathematicians, which usually peaks before 30. When the skill is "learned," perhaps like that of Dravid or (dare I say) Gavaskar, one can usually hang on to it longer. Being the intelligent person that he is, Tendulkar may have realized this himself and changed his game accordingly.

Sachin is the Best
by Anurag on Sep 28, 2004 02:45 PM

I agree with the proponent. And wish Sachin reads this article. That may arouse that killer instinct in him..

This message box is too small to express myself...

Must Read

I would love to see the old Tendulkar too but I am convinced that it is not going to happen.I would like to illustrate few points which I feel are relevant to this discussion. First and foremost he has been playing for 16 years and for most part of his career something like 12 yrs he played like genius.like everbody he is mortal and couldn't keep up the same pace meeting expectation of billion people every single match. In my experience i have seen so many so called experts fall flat in various facets of life while trying to meet day to day expectations. Its a miracle that he can still operate. It is not fair to compare Viv with Sachin. Unlike any other player, sachin has seen the game changing drastically. Most of the veterans didn't have to deal with so much analysis on technique,so much technology to assist which gives away players weak points. Not to forget the media and people like us who comment and pass judgements so easily. Its bound to have effect and even sachin was no exception. If you all really want to see old sachin then leave him alone,he deserves some respite from fans and critics and away from constant pressure for a while only then we might just see old sachin again

Tendulkar..... Ho Hum...
by Arun on Sep 28, 2004 12:17 PM

I only want to say one thing to the person who has written this article.... TENDULKAR IS OLD....

And with age has come the whole bag of insecurities, like having to keep his place in the team in competition with more capable youngsters..

And as for your criticism of Rahul Dravid's Batting, albeit in a very subtle way, I'll only say that people with a slightly mature taste are the only ones who can appreciate Dravid's game... For the kiddies there will always be the Tendulkars and there will always be one day cricket and test matches played like one day cricket....

Ho Hum... How boring.... another "TENDULKAR IS SO GREAT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS NO GOOD" article... although cunningly worded to make it seem like the something else...

Re:Wanted: tendulkar of old

It's been quite an interesting month since Tendulkar has come under scrutiny. Lack of form (by his standards), lack of flair and injuries. As a cricket fan, I too am disappointed about these things. However, a thing that bothers me more than this is "our" expectations. As all of us know, Sachin's also a human being and has a right to fail. True Sachin's a class apart; but bad phases are not new to any player. Cricketing greats in the past have been through this. Well; even in our daily lives, we often dont perform satisfactorily in those things that we are adept in. "Law of averages"- that's what I can say about it. Another important thing (no intentions to curse the author of the original article), Sachin's not here to entertain fans. His primary goal is to look at getting a good result for the team. So, why the fuss about his failures?
On the flip side a team which until quite recently was recognized as dependable only on Sachin, has played some good cricket and won without his contribution.
As we all know, "Form is temporary and class permanent", be patient guys. He'll be back with a bang.
A small request to all fans. "Just curb your expectations a little". Stop being demanding.

Wanted Tendulkar of Late
by Rakesh Rawat on Sep 28, 2004 11:06 AM

Actually, tendulkar is now conscious of his reputation of making big hundreds then any thing else. You all will have seen that in last 3 years Rahul Dravid have out played or I wold say Out Classed S.Tendulkar. Now people are more dependent and sure of Rahul dravid than Tendulkar. (Even I would say they expect more from Sehwag then tendulkar). You would have seen that Rahul have made Runs when needed,(In year 2004 Sydney Test, Adelilaid Test Win, In year 2002 England Test Series he made 3 Centuries there), He has made big hundred when he approached the Hundred. He made Consecutively 4 Centuries, He is adjudged the Best Test Player by ICC. So, all this have made sachin to show the world that he too can make big hundred , he too can make 4-5 consecutive centuries or he too can be more dependable than Rahul. There is some where a feeling of Competition between him and Rahul. But, Rahul has no such feeling, because he is naturally a big inning player, dependable and Rock Solid in defence, That I would say was Gods gift to him.

But tendulkar of late wants to give up or sacrifice his talent to matchup or over take others talent. That you cant ever do , had it been possible then Glenn Macgrath Would have taken Spin to beat Shane warnes record.Or Zaheer would have liked to Copy Irfans action to Get the same Importance and Fame which presently Irfan is getting. So tendulkar in pursuit of Matching Rahul Dravid have shed away his Natural Talent. It is like a Student who is No. 1 in studies wants to outplay another student in same class who is No. 1 in sports and the former is loosing his grip on studies to match the later in sports.

I dont blame Tendulkar for that. Actually, media and Commentators on T.V should be blamed for this. Because they give So much Importance to The statistics in a Team Game like cricket that a player becomes more concious of his statistics, than any thing else. Some time because of this they slowdown their scoring rates, when approach hundred that team have to suffer for this. This is a team Game like football and you would have noticed that in Football people and commentator dont give importance to Nos. of Goals a player have made but they give importance to how many matches that particualr player helped his team to win. Alas! That is not the case with cricket, especially Indian Cricket.
